Yeah the 8800 is massive, I had problems getting it in my new rig because the hdd screws wouldnt align up when pushed back. So I had to stick the card right at the bottom of my case, temp 65-80c depending on what im doing. £480 worth of massive bad ass g card lol.

man thats some neat cable setup you got there, i just stuff all my cables under the DVD drive / HDD lol.

when buying a amd chip i would advise you to get one that comes with an amd manufactured heatsink and fan. That way you have no problems with fitting the heatsink on and if it breaks then you should get a free replacement.

I’m highly qualified and have a well paying job, no kids, wife or responsibilities. Man, wish I was in you shoes right now, fixing laptops for a living is a good job but its far from the wage IT admins get.

Google video has crap resolution tho, they encode it and make it playable in nearly full screen and all you see is pixles all over the place. If google video was better resi id enjoy it more, but youtube is my choice over google video.

I got myself a new rig few weeks ago, posted in the forums a number of times. ASUS Crosshair mainboard am2 duel core 2.6ghz cpu Corsair Dominator ddr800 (1066mhz) Asus GeForce 768MB 8800GTX, Mem 1800MHz, GPU 575MHz, Raptor 10krpm HDD 320gb SATA2 Seagate HDD XP Pro Alaska 500W PSU Nice case and the psu got 6 sata power sockets on it so im happy with that. CSS looks teh pwnage with a steady 60fps with everything on max. Cost me £1670 in total.

The net has a number of diagnostic tools out there, if you search around im sure you will find pc check in there somewhere. I got v6 atm, good for testing all parts and doing stress tests.

I fix laptops for a living from places that have more than 1 year warrenty, anyway a work colleage was replacing a dvd drive, the customer had setup windows so no hardware changes could be made in windows without logging onto there account. So I went in admin mode (which still wouldnt let me install it), so I made a new account to install the dvd drive. When I finished I was deleting the test account, by accident i selected the customers account. Was like "o s**t", turned the laptop off before it could execute the removal script, so it was a close call. Thank god laptops run slower than pcs :).

am2 duel core ftw, i got a 5200+ 2.6ghz and its very fast.

Bascially dont let him on the pc, stick a password on the bios, disable the usbs and dvd drive. if hes dumb with pc hardware then unplug the power and ide cable from the hdd, watch him sit there wondering why windows aint loading.

For a few months now when i click on a image that has been resized for the forums, it launches the image in a new window but it isnt displayed. This is soooo annoying when you cant actually view pages because when they get resized there so dinky. I dunno if this is a problem at my end but it just doesnt work.

I get about 300kb max even tho im on 8mb but download at 6mb (530kb).

I got rsi most of the time, my arms messed up aswell at the joints because of it, hurts sometimes.

Ive had this before with certain versions of vnc, norton goes in a paddy but its nothing to worry about. if you installed it i dout its infected with anything else, just the program itself being remotely installed on other pcs raises nortons eyebrow.

you need to be logical about it. go round ur mates and ask them to put your hdd and memory in there rig, if it boots and detects the hdd then you know 2 parts are working. Take your graphics card around and get them to check that aswell, if they dont want to mess around with that then take it to a pc store. If you pay them a $10 they might test the parts for you, if there nice ppl they will do it for free.

I think everyone, when building a new pc should setup a raid 1 system. Im thinking about doing it myself but im not sure on the performance drain when doing this. Ive had to replace both my hdd's in the past because of bad sectors, i used norton ghost to copy my hdd's doing it manually. Raid 1 would be a good thing when your busy and forget to backup your hdd if you need todo it weekly. Can anyone give me some links on setup guides for raid 1 hardware. My new pc rig will have a 10,000rpm raptor sata2 hdd (150gb) and a 320gb sata2 hdd, so would I have to get another 10k rpm 150gb hdd so they perform at the same speed? Also im planning to setup raid 1 on my servers, would this also change the performance on it even if its a hardware raid setup.
