  1. If its Lithium ion, its tricky, if Nickle Metal Hydride (for got the letters:) ) or niCd, its easier. Lithium ions need a sliding scale, so to speak. I've been hunting down a good rule of thumb design for Li recharging, but haven't found it yet. (then toss in Lithium polymer ion ) Maxxim and Microchip offer free samples of chips (not their full line nor in each package) just set up an account looking like a company. Fill out the questionnaires like you will buy in at least 1k quantities.
  2. I burned up all my disposable income on a Kenwood TS-2000, icom 7000, and a Kenwood THD-72 :) But at least I'm set for a while (or until Dayton! Got my tickets, not sure if I'm going or not. hope to get a customer foot the travel bill) Having kinda poo-poo'ing earller, I'm still gonna play with some yagis / stacked yagis. I guess best route is modeling software (because we always live in perfect conditions :) ) But I do have a Asus 9db omni (with the cool airfoil shape) and a Hawking 12db directional (HA12W) I like a lot. I'll do a little more research with them and pull up some real numbers (as best I can)

    Unreads?

ahh, thanks. just used to it being a more built-in. never did much with RSS. (also looks ugly and feels kludgey IMOHO)
  4. (CNC Laser service) Customer calls complaining his parts aren't coming out right size. After working on the phone for a week, between 2 departments, getting the files, the same material, we find out he's checking them with 2 calipers TAPED together. ..........<click went the phone> Now from the other end. I was having an issue with a hot water heater. had to call Deep Homo (home depot) since they were the exclusive retailer. Went through 5 minutes of voice menus. Got to one that said "Press 1 for such and such or press 2 for other". I picked other and was prompted with "Have a nice day" and got hung up on. Or another. Called up to set up the internet (*very* beginning of broadband/cable and was using IBM's OS/2 not winderze) I asked what the address of his Domain name Servers were. I was told they didn't have them. Then I asked how they couldn't have any DNS, then he said, oh yes we have *those*
  5. Got 2 shipping, hopefully, on April 14. I should have another one coming in from over the pond, but there was a slight snafu with address.

    Unreads?

I've been on a lot of forums where they have options to show all new post since last visit an even in a thread to jump to first unread. any chance of getting this here? (or am I missing something?)
  7. Having built antennas for Ham radio, I'm cautious about DIY without an analyzer. (the Analyzer I have stops at 150MHz ) Dialing in the SWR, impedance and resonant freq is what makes them work *right* Granted an HF rig cost a bit more then a WiFi adapter ;)
  8. Haven't used them, but don't see why it wouldn't work. voltage is there and the current is on par.
  9. While working through that ssh prob, (linux re-rookie and ssh noob here) I think you have a few typos in the help section of the SSH page. And I gotta say, I couldn't make heads or tails of the instructions. And just a thought: on the config page, I'd move the WPS button script to the bottom. I think I'd adjust that the least. And a Q. For upgrading (which went flawlessly) it says not to do it with low memory, but whats 'low'? Thats like asking how long is a piece of string?
  10. You can also just connect to other network (not sure the Win/Lin way, but easy on a Mac) and type in any old name.
  11. +1 I'm a heatshrink fanatic. Everytime I'm in a city with a Frys I buy there kits (they are 1/2 the price of any other store for same thing) Also stagger your splices, it gives less chance of a short and makes less of a bulge.
  12. Also keep in mind the output is rated at 1 amp. Not sure if its over-current limited or just a guideline.
  13. Do the letters in lead foil, they will pop up on the x-ray. just get to the airport at least 4 hours in advance, your gonna need it. :)
  14. I'd drop the switch and use a headphone jack. With a 'plug' inserted its off, and 'remove for flight' to turn on.
  15. It would go through TSA no prob. And with lithium batteries it has to go as carry-on. You should see what I've dragged on a plane.
  16. ./etc/hotplug.d/button/50-wps Possible use? Just exploring the p'apple
  17. Thats what I'm using. Gonna scribe grooves in it; figure it will be harder to scrap out.
  18. I thought it was just a warning label
  19. Its gonna have encryption. Only using it for the xbox, tablets, et all. (and only for me) My main Q was who secure is that isolation? Any reports of breaking it?
  20. FWIW, my stock IV shared the internet tethered to a Mac. No disabling firewall or the like.
  21. For PIC microcontrollers (at 5V) I've used just a 1K and 22K resistors on the TX/RX lines. Adjust the values and it might work for 3.3 (don't remember which line gets which resistor)
  22. Its a surface mount chip fuse. Looks just like a resistor or cap. But its labeled F1. You might be surprised that they do have them, just not the old school variants.
  23. I'm a fan of the netbooks (though you can get eccono fullsized laptops for same price these days) My EE-Pc won't boot off a thumbdrive, but my acer inspire one will. I've used a wide screen monitor, real keyboard and mouse with them and it makes them useable in the house (outside of being a bit slow, but most of what I use them for isn't CPU intensive) another perk to a netbook is battery life. My EE-pc still gets over 8 hours.
  24. Sure now you guys come out with this. Spent a bunch of time yesterday getting a usb drive to work. Mines working but I used EXT2 over 4. (Saw Darren's post about ext4 after the fact, so 2 works also) On a side note any MFG make colored micro SD cards? Easier to tell who's who. I've been painting the edge/tab, but it comes off.
  25. Is a fuse going to protect against reverse polarity? Diodes are the typical device for that, no? I have seen a couple of center neg cables, but that was back in the day when MFG's made things all themselves. Nowadays, its cheaper/easier to use off the shelf components and sub assemblies. (and there is a fuse in there, right next to the big cap in front of the power port)
