  1. I've popped open a few thumb drives and ditched the shells. Wound up the same size as yours. A little heat-shrink, or surgru for a grip and your set (the plain metal makes it tough to pull out) (now how to mount it on the MKIV.....)
  2. I'm not worried about breaking the WiFi WPA or WEP. My router has a 'guest network' that's supposed to sandbox it from the real LAN. (or that's my understanding of it) The idea is to have a public WiFi that's isolated from the internal LAN (#5&6 from Infiltrator gonna look into the Vlan thingy) Wifi just used by xbox, Wii, tablets, etc. Nothing that *needs* to be secure. (and just for a smile I named my public wifi FBI Surveillance Van #3 :) ) Maybe a tiny Linux box as a router/firewall (and DNS if its not too taxing). I'm *trying* to get a raspberry Pi. Thanks guys.
  3. After seeing how insecure WiFi is, I'm thinking of going all wired. But have a few items that are only WiFi, but really don't need access on local LAN, just internet. So I was pondering just turning off LAN WiFi and just leaving guest for the appliances. So my Q is how isolated is the guest WiFi from the LAN on most consumer routers? (this is a netgear WNDR7300 ) Is it crackable?
  4. I grabbed a Virgin Mobile MC760 USB 3G modem. (for some fun excursions) EDIT: ==================================== Nevermind. Found switching to Sprint/PCS fixed the issue. But New Q, any external antennas for the port on the side? ========================================== I'm having a bugger of a time getting it to run under Mac OSX 10.6.8. (Snow Leopard) I got as far as it will connect with an IP, but no coms (I'd think it would route me the Virgin website to load up my account, no?) I can self ping the IP on the Mac, but not from the outside. * The Broadband2Go app in Applications just bounces on the dock then fails (haven't looked at the console yet) * I have activated the modem on the Virgin website and account is active. (though empty balance; have cards sitting here) So fast forward to the MK4, since the device is active, will the MK4 use it? Or do I need to get it rolling on a 'real' computer first? I *really* don't want to boot win XP just to get things rolling.
  5. OK a TC hooked to a AD595 (dang those '595 went up in price!)
  6. http://www.westsidewholesale.com/80tk-fluke-thermocouple-module-for-type-k.html?gdftrk=gdfV23580_a_7c1581_a_7c7214_a_7c133103 and your meter does temp :) of course just leave the rubber out of the case and use a 99 cent fish tank stick on thermometer.
  7. Got mine on order. But a quick Q. Whats the power consumption? Wanna do some calcs on runtime vs batteries (how come the batteries *always lose? :) )
