  1. Any wireless router/access point has wireless repeater functions, that's kinda what they are made for. The pineapple does the same thing, though it's not really made for this, it may work, if the other wireless repeaters didn't, then the pineapple probably won't either. From the pineapple admin screen click the network window, then input your current wifi settings under client mode, use the wlan1 interface for this. Under the access point tab, set the ssid to whatever you want, also set up the channel and encryption method. Ta-da!

    Help?

No clue. If I was still an Apple tech I could at least tell you how much the parts would cost. Though I may have spoken too soon. Looks like they've move the temperature sensors to the logic board. The iFixit site has take apart how to's for this laptop and the heatsink doesn't have the sensors anymore.
  3. It's hackable, you'll void all kinds of warranties and it requires soldering a USB cable to the board, so it's not advisable.

    Help?

Take it to an apple store. Usually when that happens it's one of the thermistors on the heatsink gone bad. They can run a diagnostics test on it.
  5. Yea, most likely both wifi networks are on the 192.168.1.0/24 network, it's how 99% of home networks are set up. If they're not, then you're going to have to kill the dhcp server, then edit the routing tables so you can talk to both networks. Like Mr.P said, why would you want to cause this headache?
  6. Kinda like the one I linked to... Also one of the first computer viruses was written for Mac OS! Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
  7. He brought his own cooler last year... Derbycon is the same week as my birthday, still going!
  8. http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/virus-scanner-for-mac.html It's most likely something else, unless you pirated ms office or something like that. The only current malware on macs are trojans that you have to give permission to install.
  9. The standard black/green color scheme looks better. I was messing with the color options. This was the 16 color version.
  10. Opkg install lynx? I'm not home do I can't try it.
  11. Ekahau heatmapper is what I use in windows. http://www.ekahau.com/wifidesign/ekahau-heatmapper
  12. Enable wlan1 then go into the network infusion. In there will be a section that will allow you to connect to your home wifi. After it's connected, you can upgrade over the wifi. You can also manually copy the update to your pineapple and run the update over ssh. https://wifipineapple.com/?flashing
  13. The red light means wlan1 is enabled. Do you have wifi locally for the pineapple to connect to?
  14. Internet connection sharing on Macs is "funky". They automagically change the ip addresses, no matter what you input. Best bet would be to use the pineapple's client mode to connect to your wifi to update and install infusions.
  15. Deauthing "rogue" access points is cool, until you start deauthing the company across the street. In a past life I had to track down rogue access points. My boss said bring it back to him, the owner could come to him for it. I've actually ripped them out of the wall before. Sure I had to come back and fix the jack after hours, but it starts the gossip train rolling. The rogues became less of an issue after that. 90% of the time it was because the person wanted a switch in their room to hook up a couple more computers and the PFY at Fred Meyer's sold them a wifi router to make a little more commision. The other 10% didn't like our filtering of the network. Though they didn't understand we filtered at the gateway, and not at the access points or switches. Don't get me started about the time some ass hat kid figured out they could make all the iMacs wireless base stations....
  16. No, nothing that can tell you how far in feet, signal changes too much due to environmental variables to do such a thing. I use wifi analyzer and inssider.
  17. I just did an unscientific test on range. I set up my pineapple on the back porch sitting on one of the grills, then walked as far as I could in the field behind my house while streaming music from my desktop over the pineapple wifi. I ran out of field... Kinda funny, that dip past -90 was a dip in the field. Didn't feel like marking up the photo, pineapple is roughly centered in the picture. There's a line of sycamore trees and our cars between me and the pineapple, still have enough signal to stream music. I had to shut off the wifi so maps would place my location, and not my house... Google earth says it's about 686 feet.
  18. Just a WAG, but you do have the supplied antennas attached and not some other antennas right?
  19. Okay, just read the article. Looks like it uses the real address when it connects.
  20. Pretty sure he's graduated high school by now.

  22. Here's the real question. Can whatever you use to encrypt windows be unencrypted from linux?
