SmoothCriminal
So I got my Fon today, and it has been a while since 3x07... So I completely newbed out and plugged it into the internet, and of course the firmware updated to 7.2 r3. I tried the reset trick with no luck.... I know there are ways to get openWRT on this version, and I was wondering if anybody has been in the same predicament I am in, and have gotten their fon working with openWRT. If you have, please post the guide up here. I have found a few, but I am not sure which ones to trust, and as they all seem fairly complex, I thought I would ask you guys if you know of one that works. I don't have a spare 40 dollars to buy a new one (well I do, but I am a cheap son of a bitch and won't spend money on something twice). Thanks. Darren Kitchen
When I was doing all my research on this for 3x07 I ran across some pretty crazy voodoo to unlock some of the newer firmwares so I'll try to post the links I have on the subject but I've gotta say the sure fire way to get in is through the serial port inside the device. You'll need a special converter to access the serial interface since it doesn't use the same voltage as your PC but there are cables to be had that do the trick. Mubix has a Fon unbricking USB cable. The trick is to plug the USB cable into your PC, open up a terminal on COM-whatever-your-usb-is, turn on the device, quickly plug in the cable into the FON in the correct orientation and start pressing enter until you get to the redboot menu. From there you can flash away. Just be patient though, it's slow going. Mubix, you got any leads on where to obtain one of these cables? My bookmarks on unlocking the fon in no particular order: http://wiki.openwrt.org/OpenWrtDocs/Hardwa...601183d0d26d1d8 http://www.room362.com/?serendipity[action]=search&serendipity[searchTerm]=fonera http://uselesshacks.com/hacks/fon-router-h...guide/#rbenable http://stefans.datenbruch.de/lafonera/#kolofonium (this is for hacking firmware 0.7.1-2 and a very fun read) http://download.berlin.freifunk.net/ (gui can be found here) http://www.mcgrewsecurity.com/2007/04/24/o...the-fon-fonera/ http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php...e04e59311414277 (hacking 0.7.2 r3) Hope that helps! Mike S.
Yesterday I tried without success to put openwrt onto the FON... :-( With the description on "http://uselesshacks.com/hacks/fon-router-h...guide/#rbenable" it was no problem to implement dd-wrt (which doesn't help in this case). Darren: You showed a neat application from freifunk to flash openwrt during 3x07. In which state should the FON be to receive the image successful? I've tried it in differend ways without luck. Do you have a hint? Mike
Emeryth
Check out this site: http://www.fonerahacks.com It describes all of the hacking methods. I had no problem downgrading the updated fon firmware using the ethernet router trick, and I even bricked it afterwards and had to use the serial cable method :D It's actually very simple to get the cable since most cellphone usb cables are just that - usb-to-serial converters, I've used a Nokia CA-42 cable (people from the USA recommend getting a Kyocera cable, you have to look it up). To use the freifunk utility the fon has to be a bit hacked, that is, with ssh enabled and with a kernel and bootloader patch installed. I recommend getting the serial cable, because it isn't really hard to use (no soldering required) and you don't have to worry about bricking the router. staulkor
I got my new fon(s) today and it had 0.7.2R3. Its now running openwrt and works great. You have to unplug it from the network, hold the reset button for exactly 15-20 seconds and then let go. It will load up the firmware that is kept on the rom chip. Mine happened to be 0.7.1R1. You can take it from there ;)
stringslayer
This method provided an easy downgrade for me. It worked great! Source = http://dltv.wordpress.com/2008/01/10/fonera-072-r3-hacked/ Fonera 0.7.2 r3 Hacked !!!! January 10, 2008 · 11 Comments This could be it people. I get people from all over coming to read my blog because of the former post and tutorial I did on hacking the La fonera, but a lot of people have come here in hopes of a new hack. Some have come looking for a R3 hack. It appears this wait is over. * First this is not my hack or tutorial so I have no way to verify this info is 100% working. I would be willing to try this on someone elses router should someone sent it to me. In the newest firmware FON had blocked the “internal” DNS that is used for downloading updates. This rendered the modification of the DNS useless or so they thought! In order to preform the new hack you must have the following: You must have a Router You must be able to set the Routers IP to :213.134.45.129 You must be able to set the Routers DNS to: 88.198.165.155 First make sure your router is not plugged into the internet. Next connect to the La Fonera (default MyPlace) and access http://192.168.10.1 /. Once logged in go to Advanced Options / Connect and insert 213.134.45.200 as IP, 255.255.255.0 as the subnet, 213.134.45.129 as the Gateway and DNS. Then save the La fonera and restart. It should revert the firmware back to 0.7.1 r1. *note some people said you may have to reboot the La Fonera a few times in order for this to work. Now save the below cost as a HTML doc. < HTML > < head></head><body><center > < form method=”post” action=”http://192.168.10.1/cgi-bin/webif/connection.sh” enctype=”multipart/form-data” > < input name=”username” value=”$(/usr/sbin/iptables - INPUT 1 - p tcp –dport 22 - j ACCEPT && /etc/init.d/dropbear)” / > < input type=”submit” name=”submit” value=”Submit” / > </form > </center></body></html > Once you have executed this command you can loggin via SSH and follow the other tutorials on hacking the firmware. Quick setup would be: 1. Set the non-fon router IP to 213.134.45.129 2. Set both primary and alternate DNS on non-fon router to 88.198.165.155 3. Plug Fon router into the non-fon router 4. Connect via the private wireless (MyPlace) to the Fon router 5. Navigate to 192.168.10.1 6. Click on Advanced Options / Connect. Select static IP and enter 213.134.45.200 as IP, as a mask 255.255.255.0, and 213.134.45.129 both as a gateway and as DNS. 7. Then push the reset button on the router or unplug the router and replug it in 8. Wait for the router to reboot(at least 3 minutes) and then wait another 5(Just in case) 9. Try to SSH into 192.168.10.1 via the wireless 10. If that does not work, do 7 to 9 over again After I SSH’d into the router I disconnected the fon router from the non fon router and flashed the firmware. Jon Kunze
I've been working on my Fonero to no avail tonight. It's a Fonero 2200, brand new out of the box, and running FW 0.7.1 r2. I've had absolutely no luck with Kolofonium. Has anyone had any luck with this FW and model number? I've got a 2100 that I've had for a while, and I'm trying to restore it now to see if the reset trick works to get back to r1. If not, then it looks like I'm stuck. IceBerg
Does anyone know if this is still a 2100 ( https://shop.fon.com/FonShop/shop/US/ShopCo...product=PRD-001 ) and if so does anyone have any idea what firmware they are shipping pre-installed on the units? I want to be sure I can use it or downgrade it. I think the FON in conjunction with a 500ms pen booster will do about everything I need in the smallest possible package. I was thinking about buying one direct if I am unable to find anyone to trade for my WRT54GSv1.

drkurtsvanhassenphefer
Sorry if this is bringing up a particularly old thread, but I have been having trouble with my FON. I can successfully downgrade my FON 2100 to the 0.7.0 r4 firmware, but after I enable SSH the FON loses its internet connection and I cannot install OpenWRT. Anyone have any idea what could be going wrong?

shift
I just got my Fon 2201 today and it has Firmware Version: 1.1.0 r2 Now one of the unlocking guides said to upgrade it first before unlocking it, then on the forums i read not to plug it in to the wan... so whats the proper way to get jausager on this? digininja
redboot should be open already on a 2201, just start the install process at the point it has redboot and is about to do the flashing.
shift
Good to know, i got to redboot, but the tutorial i was looking at was getting you to check a bunch of hex keys and some of mine did not match, so thats what threw me off. It said if it doesnt match follow this tutorial which says to let it upgrade then work from that????

digininja
Do you mean looses its internet connection or network connection? I've not had to downgrade a Fon so just guesses here but are you checking the right IP address and have you tried connecting via wired cable as well as just wifi? John Doeeee
hi, digininja i'm in the same situation as shift i have a fon 2201 with firmware 1.1.1 r2 and if i get this clear i can go to step 11 of the jasager wiki guide ?
digininja
Depends whether you have redboot access or not. Give it a go from step 11 and if it works you win, if not then you have to work from the start.
proxy
Hey just got my fon2100 and it is running firmware version: 0.7.0 r2. In the install guide for jasager it says that it needs to be 0.7.0 r1 or below. Looking for a clear way to downgrade this fon to a suitable version. I have been reading on http://stefans.datenbruch.de/lafonera/ about using a perl script grammofon.pl on a 0.7.0 r4. It this the best way to do the downgrade also is there a way to do it under windows. Thanks for any help in advance.
spisakni
I know you guys are going to destroy me about giving references and descriptions about what I have tried already to here is quick overview. I have a fon + 2201 with firmware 1.1.1 r2. I have attempted to downgrade the firmware with the fon flash executable. I did not purchase a serial cable yet as I wanted to try to enable SSH and connect via ethernet. Has anyone found a link I can reference that details the most efficient way to downgrade or unlock the fon+ so I can get openwrt. After a few hours of unsuccessful attempts I ask for the community's help for a good resource. Thanks guys!
