Agreeing, but wondering how long that will last.

Wasn't the last version of UT optimized for the 64-bit AMD stuff? Maybe the 64-bit OS isn't a real requirement?

Anything over 2-4GB slows games down.

Wasn't that only true for Intel boxes because they, being 32-bit, can only address at most 4 gigs directly, and need to use tricks (which will obviously take longer) to go beyond that. A 64-bit machine should be able to cope without any ill effects. Question is, how many people run 64-bit games on a 64-bit OS to not get bitten by this...?

It’s also runs solid works and a few in-house applications that can utilise that much ram, if I was just using it for gaming I would have only used 2GB as any thing over that is just over kill.

Hmm I was thinking the same thing only...

2^32=4294967296bits

4294967296bits/8=536870912Bytes

536870912Bytes/1024=524288kBytes

524288kBytes/1024=512MBytes

So 32bit systems could only have 512MBytes of RAM?

And 64bit systems could have 2147483648 GIGA BYTES OF RAM????

You address _bytes_ of memory, not bits.

So 32-bit systems can address 4294967296 bytes = 4194304 kbytes = 4096 mbytes = 4 gbytes.

The use of 32 BITS means you can make any digit between 0 and 4294967296.

When you use it as a memory address, it means that the 32-bit value of 0 points at the first BYTE of memory. The 32-bit value of 894652 points at byte 894652 in the memory.

Do some research before trying to be funny.

Well, the computer that I have the 16gigs of ram in, is really nothing but a play toy, it took me a long time to put the money into it, but it was worth the wait.

Total cost, $2,567.90 - custom built desktop/server

They all are windows xp home and pro based computers.

Sounds to me like using a nuclear reactor to power an ipod (ok, shitty analogy I know).

Then again, I would love to have that much ram for my boxs.
