CanadianTaco
Whatever, it's just kittens. Instead of rickrolling I made a Nyan cat page that loops the music a couple of times and shows an animated nyan cat .gif It's fun :) (source files for Nyan-roll: http://www.mediafire.com/?dqierwad34z6gg8 )

iamk3
Could you imagine putting a pineapple on a huge antenna somewhere that high? Have always fancied playing with wifi, a large antenna and a high building, not got round to it yet. That would be EPIC digininja! The only problem with tall buildings is that birds like them and if it has weird access, you could find yourself walking through a few inches of bird poo everywhere you step. (Unfortunately, yes, I do know this from experience) You should definitely play around with it someday. It's fun!

iamk3
Big antenna? Home made omni. I have a couple antennas like that from my "real" work. :P I need to find some N-type to rp-sma cables!

digininja
Either that or I'm imagining standing on a roof top with a parabolic antenna slowly moving it side to side till I close in on my target two blocks away in the corner booth in the Italian coffee shop. He doesn't notice the slight hiccup in network traffic as he jumps onto my connection and now all his evil plans are mine. (Watched too many spy films?) I live on the twelfth floor of a building and have a uni campus across the main street here. I could reach it with a Yagi or similar. Hm, I guess I do have to try this. iamk3
digininja: That is an amazing idea! Now I have another reason to finally get a Yagi! bahahaha...
barry99705
What is the buckyball looking thing with the yellow bands? Nanodots. wowza. um, plans for that puppy? It's only 6-8dBi. I built it back when wardriving was going hot and heavy. The standard antennas weren't holding up very well in Alaska's winters, and at the time external antennas were stupid expensive. webdirector
What would be cool is to take your antenna on a step motor connected to an arduino. Then the antenna would turn until a strong signal comes in and then stop and then you can start hackking :) then press next button and antenna would start turning again searching for next signal /webdirector

digininja
If we do it I'm planning to video the whole thing so I can send it to Darren for the show. I think we can cover Leeds and Hull from his airport so should get some good data, will make sure that we do it some time this year.
Sebkinne
Sounds great! Stay away from Birmingham ;) But it does indeed sound very tempting to do. Just need a very strong antenna..
digininja
I'm planning to take up a a few, a big omni which I'll sit horizontally to do a wide sweep then a couple of yagis so I can have one fairly fixed and one to wave around and point at interesting looking buildings. Its the batteries that I'm a bit more worried about. Got a big extra one for my eeepc and a Gorilla charger to act as a top up so should be good but would hate to get up and then have them run out. digininja
I've no idea but it is only a small plane and the idea of pulling power from it while in flight scares me a little!

iamk3
Holy Crap digininja! That would be phenomenal!! My father is actually getting a plane this week. After he finally solos, I am going to try to convince him to take me up so I can do that!
