Figured one thing out other states are friendlier about this issue. One has a document on how to link hyper terminal to the software. Teraterm will work the same way, but I can get hyper term or terra term for win7. The real question is why don't they support this. I know this does not belong in this forum. I looked all over the net no help. This is a medicare billing software called pcace pro 32 Their comunications software is called alternate transfer. Their tech support is no help. They want you to use their own terminal emulator called Alternate transfer. What happens is it will try to transfer the files to the payer. It goes so far and it hangs. I never had this problem with procomm. They have no answers to this problem it is one of those windows errors. I should email them the error from the event log there is no one to email. I asked if I could set it up so I could manually use tera term putty or hyper term after the data was created. They said yes but you have to figure out how to do this on your own. I don't think the staff can figure out how to do it. There are these text files logon submit receive and so on. It uses a dial modem. We tried three modems. The modem I use is a usr v.92 external. Not a win modem. Any suggestions any one have experience with this. There is very little documentation about this online. Alternate transfer has no documentation. Oh well I guess this is the software the state is making us use.

I know this does not belong on this site not a hacking topic. I broke a cat 5e cable in the ceiling can I splice it together using a telephone splice connector. The cable is from demarc to the network room anyone do this? Been working it rocks.

I went to an event that had people like us, business people, inventors and robots. Share learn grow is the slogan. I talked about using the Windows easy transfer tool to prepare for the Migration of windows xp to windows 7 or 8. Someone talked about tor and pgp. There was a game programer that showed off some stuff. There were also non tecnical people talking about business strategy, keeping employees in your local town after they graduate from college. Ways to raise money for business. It was interesting lots of people use kick starter. Someone did something on decision making. There even was inventions and robots. One of the robots tossed frisbees. They were all wifi controlled. I was well behaved. I was surprised lots of people used linux. Nextime I should talk about something related to Linux. They are huge on open source.

I am looking at away to securly store data. For Sata Raid I am looking at, idea 1 sata multiplier, idea 2 pcI sata Raid Card, and idea 3 build a new pc with an on board raid controller. I am looking at Raid 10. The other thoughts are Nas or Cloud. I could buy a nas device or look for a new cloud provider. Ubuntu one is dead maybe something like own cloud. I don't know the answer just some ideas any thoughts.

Awesome lots of great posts. People are not computer users like us. They are used to the model where you call for tech support and onsite support when you need something. When something does not seem right they go to the electronics store with their pc for help. I think this is geared toward the average home user. Backup is something visitors to Florida do they don't look. Just another goof thats what people think backup are. I think the fact that there many cool options for external drives and cloud setups eg ubuntu one. There are some simple things to do backup windows profile file or linux home directory regularly. There is a script you can put on a flash drive to do this beyond many users. Good for us though. Keep a live cd of something handy and or a backup pc with linux on it for desktop users. If the users would actualy learn something by doing not watching it will help. The needs of regular users will never go away.

To be a hacker you have to want to figure things out and learn how things work. This desire is what makes us who we are. Just because we want to learn all we can about WIFI I dont see problems with this. I see problems when manufactuers cover things up. If people like us dont discover these flaws who will. The crap about the drone thing is to scare people about wifi. A side note port scans are legal as far as college professors have told me. I bet the drone is doing a scan in monitor mode or it is connected to an open wifi network. The cnn drone thing was about open networks I think. Wifi networks are not switched they are shared. Like an ethernet hub. I bet this is how an ftp password got sniffed for a box store. It is hard to sniff things on a switched network unless you are sniffing on that pc. This is how a one to one relationship of a switch is. A hub is one to many. Wifi is a shared media there is no such thing as a network switch for WIFI.

I need to go from a direct box to my pc or laptop. I cant plug a guitar or keyboard in directly my pc. The line levels are different. This causes distortion.This is why I use a direct box. I use ubuntu studio or Mint. There are three or four different types. Shure has one there is this icicile and a couple usb to xlr. My friend uses a lexicon reverb for vocals awesome. Thanks you guys are awesome. My mom thinks in a controlled environment it is a good idea. Using your own device to work on a project or use a resource not available in a company. The bad someone plugs a router in to create there own Wi-Fi network. It also has a network switch on it. Now you have a device firing out duplicate ip addresses. This is something that might happen in a school. I have even seen students create an SSL tunnel to their home networks to bypass security. If it is maintained right it could be something that could have value. Separate Vlans. Imagine having a day to bring your own device to school. Fortunately there is a firewall to protect the network and block content. Things like Vlans, content based firewalls will fix some of the problems. It is just like anything the bugs need to be worked out. Thanks again.

How do you feel about an employee or student coming to work or school with a black bag. No one knows what is in that bag. Okay get to the point you are saying. If you are given the chance to bring your own laptop tablet or other device to school or work what could or would happen. No one knows what is on the thing that is in the black bag. Can everyone run software to suck all the bandwidth down. If a user brings a network device there could be other problems. Send fake ip addresses on the network. What happens if a machine with out a clean bill of health ends up on the network? There are other concerns. If I could put the students in there own vlan that will work for wifi devices. Ethernet devices are a problem who has what device and what device belongs. let me know any thoughts you have on the issue.

Okay I meant setting up a pc or laptop with wifi and ethernet. Even two wifi adapters. Connect it to a network. Use what ever flavor of linux you like. SSh into it via some place else. use wifite or what ever. Mess with peoples wifi with out being there. I am not recomending doing this and it is unlikely I know it can be done. I bet a single board pc could do this I want to try this in a lab. I am not saying do this I have not and will not do this. All you need is access to the command line on the other pc. I wonder what else people can do like this.

Okay I am a bit behind the times I was fooling around trying to setup adito aka openvpn-als. I got one of these "/opt/adito-0.9.1/install/platforms/linux/adito: 213: exec: install/platforms/linux/x86/wrapper: not found" I tried to edit the wrapper.conf no luck. I checked out google all of the answers are vague. I got the latest and greatest version of java setup "oracle". How do I determine if ant is setup right? am doing this to learn how to set up a secure VPN. Do not ask me how to by pass your firewall at work or something else. Maybe I should clear stuff up Plug a small wireless into a network some thing with a managed switch the spanning tree protocol/vlan type. Plug from one switch port to another in the same vlan. Bridging loop bring down a network very fast maybe less than 5 minutes. The printer they reciept printers idn is a serial rs 422 protocol. Pain to setup kicking my self in the rear for not thinking these printers have cards there has to be an ethernet card. We moved where the kitchen printer goes anyway. Further away. that was my week.

I have been working a project last couple of weeks. 1 issue epson u220b known as the workhorse of restaurants. The kitchen printer. Idn interface "card" of course My reciept printer worked which has a phone cable ran to the other printer. It stopped working when I bought a replacement micros terminal. I finally said if it were a standard setup like IP and ethernet I would of had it fixed in 5 minutes. Someone messed with a patch panel moved some cables ruined my day. Lets recap I could fixed the printer in 5 minutes if I had an ethernet card in it instead of an idn card in it. If you plug a router into a network with a switch or plug a cable from the switch to the switch you can take down a network.

A client is selling a business and does not want to update end of life xp to what ever. I said get it done by the last week in march. The reason is a database that needs to be migrated. Everyone has failed at the migration. I looked all over the net. There is a key that needs to be rotated. The server is 5 years old. They need new hardware both sides disagree. I suggested a new product was shot down ;( linux based server.. The thing is the looser I mean user is responsible for these things. Am I doing anything wrong there is nothing on paper for the potential owner. I am going to bolt. Let them deal with day0 problems.
