    Thanks

I asked a question about ip subnetting. This person rocks makes it easier. Cant find the post or remember who it was. Awesome.
  2. I just setup NX based on what I read from spending some time on Google. It is easy to install can be installed right from the repositories. Easier than setting up rdp or vnc over ssh. I installed the client it worked from work. At school they block ssh go figure. I tethered my phone to test it again it works great. I wish I could get something like this for windows. I have a point of sale server it is on windows xp pro. NX probably meets the pci-dss rules. Is there any thing for windows I cant find a nx server for windows. Put your own key in also.
  3. Hey my aps are lame and sad. Here goes call blocker pufin browser supports flash binary calculator craiglist ebay go sms pro mx player wifi analyzer subnet calculator wiggle wifi I mapped wifi in my whole area. I have other apps for guitar note taking in class etc not important
  4. I have been all over google youtube and everywhere else. I am trying to recertify cisco ccna. How I think about it 2 raised to the borrowed bits gives me the number of subnets. 2 raised to the number of 0's or bits not turned on gives you the number of hosts -2 is num of hosts per subnet. When they ask which of these is valid host addresses it throws me off. What is the fifth host in a certain subnet. I managed to make an 88 on this chapter when I took it again. In 2002 I could do this with no problem. That was pre brain damage/surgery. Maybe I should of asked how to understand the language these questions are in. Find valid host address means the ones that our not network or broadcast address. I want to get better at this.
  5. First post of 2013 you can kick me now. This question does not belong here. Okay this how I think it works Shoot me if I am wrong. Tcp windowing is for flow control. If a buffer fills up it tells the sending to slow down. It also determines how many packets can be sent without an ack. The idea is to provide reliable data transport. Does it set a timer to tell the other side to stop sending for a certain amount of time with the receive buffer is full. Is this close to being correct I should know this.
  6. a community college has the courses and a county technical institute. Also a private university offers it online. I will do more research.
  7. Hi I am looking to re certify, but all I can find is online training. None of the colleges have classroom training. Everything is done online. I was cisco ccna certified and am A+ certified. Ccna expired and A+ is pre windows XP. I want to get Cisco certified and Refresh some skills hardware and Newer windows O/S's I want to be more marketable.
  8. I cant understand exactly how it works and affects linux. Are there hardware devices and system boards locked to a specific os. How does the gnu/gpl deal with this? I know we can defeat this. Some of the stuff we worked through multi media codecs, video capture cards wifi, voip, ip v6, making the ipod work with linux. Hell my linux box is my alarm clock I listen to shoutcast and pandora. Recording studio. My television. Any obstacles they kick us with we can defeat. Go team Sorry for the second post this week had to be done.
  9. I have a usb sound card. I feel like such a fool I turned on the on board soundcard ac7. It works I feel like a fool. Must of gotten turned off when I reset something.
  10. With 802.11n at my bar where I live with ubuntu getting the 1w of power I get 150m. Just another thought. I am still a fan of ethernet. Less interference and other issues. Let us know what you come up with.
  11. Just my gut feeling how many times has the cable been split? If it must get a good quality 1000mhz splitter. Try replacing ethernet cable on the modem. If this is your house not a rental. Move the modem as close as you can to the wall box. Look for a good quality router search on line. If you can go up in the attic run cat 5 cable across the attic. Find a friend that can help you if you need it. I am sure you know someone who can help you fish a cat 5 or coax rg-6 quad sheld. Consider running cat-5 in case you find a need for voice. I also ran speaker wire at the same time. Use a tooless jack to terminate the cat 5. Also consider a new surfboard modem. Again look online for a wireless router if you must not a good idea.
  12. What is it like to install with no plan? Live cd/dvd or flash drive and going to work. Does not have to be on bare metal. On any computer you had and just installed it. I know ubuntu holds your hand and guides you through the setup partitioning. Any issues here? I want to see if anyone in our community has similar issues. I am trying to start a LUG.............. Linux user group Okay I am a nut. That makes me a lug nut.
  13. I am going to reinstall not mess around with the dummy output any more. I want here other peoples experiences good and bad. My master plan. Back up my home Dir and double check to make sure I get all the stuff. Music pics and so on. Most of my stuff is on Ubuntu one. Next I am going to do what I did not do after my head was cut open and stitched up in 2010. Write all the hardware down and make sure it should work. Also be more selective about software. I want to run things as lean as possible. Even though that has never been a problem. I want room for growth. Is this a good plan this is what I found by reading and digging deep on line. I want to know what other people have experienced. It does not bother me if you burned a CD or made a usb flash drive and went to work. I just want to hear the outcomes. Here is mine; after putting the computer together, every thing was working. I made the dvd of ubuntu studio 64 and set it up. The problems I had were nvidia and onboard sound related also getting wireless to work. I bought a wireless bridge to fix this. Now I have a lot of errors. I even had Vlc and upnp setup. When I was not at home I could watch my dvd collection no problems there. Now I have sound problems again I want to reinstall or upgrade. I have 12.04 lts I am looking at the new one. Lets hear what you have been through.
  14. I can go on and on about this thank you some one gets this. My favorite is the staples easy button hack. Numerous hacks to electric guitars. Take the pickguard off and put a capacitor to one of the tone or volume knobs. Makes more sustain. Putting a paf humbucker into an acoustic guitar in the sound hole. Putting a switch on it so I can turn off the top coil or bottom coil or both. I do things with gimp and inkscape to logos put my own thing on a Caymus wine logo just to mess with people. Numerous other things to prove I am a dork.
  15. I have been searching on google and trying different things nothing is working. A terrible thing happened I have dummy output for sound on my pc? Should I reinstall 12.04 lts? What have you done to prepare for a reinstall? Not what I should do, but your own experiences and what happened. The last thing is I found some business card templates for the gimp. That is it for this week. I might reply to a post or not busy week coming up. any ideas my sound cards is a behringer uca 202. Anyone else have this problem. Okay I posted twice this week, but I am stumped to n aval.
  16. Here is what I did this week. In xp pro right click my computer on the select properties. Click computer name tab click change put it into the proper workgroup reboot. Do the same thing again but select domain this time put the address in, and user and pw. Reboot Open out look and if I remember correctly put the user name and name of the server in. A terrible thing happened I have dummy output for sound on my pc? Should I reinstall 12.04 lts? What have you done to prepare for a reinstall? Not what I should do, but your own experiences and what happened. The last thing is I found some business card templates for the gimp. That is it for this week. 17. Whoa wait just a minute what does this mean for the gnu gpl and open source comunity. If anything I see them trying to do something about multicast traffic as in voice and video. Keep the telcos in business limiting things that take business away from them..
  18. There is a misconception folks. This needs to be cleaned up. People that are not computer smart say they are bad. I have been taking electronics apart since I was six years old I am a hacker. I crank songs out with my guitar using audacity to record them. Then I encode them in mp3 format for Reverb Nation I am hacker. I take a picture of a wine bottle using Gimp and Inkscape. I put Google logo on it to try to get Google Fiber in my area I am a hacker. I think the generation gap is part of the problem. Hackers have found solutions to many computer problems.
  19. I want to know if there is a way to simplify computer things that general people need to know. I mean my parents or people are anyone who is not techie. Most other computer people know and understand what we talk about. Okay here we go "ah I can't get online I think the cable modem or wifi is not working. How did you do that thing on face book etc." If I say click on the thing in the task panel that looks like two computers or left of the speaker. I don't know how or where to go. This is something that needs to be looked at not everyone is a Networking/Linux/Hacking/General genus like us. Anyway from last post the results are in. I cant get dsl w/o a phone line. This is vz thing. I fixed the cable thing politely explained where I could not not trace to on my end and from another network. They fixed the problem so my mother can look at face book drop box etc. Multi pass works better than multi system. Something else look into qr codes you can link to any website. I put my resume on Ubuntu one in Html format. I published it and linked it to my qr code. It is on my business card. Lastly the Enomatic system where I work uses a Cryptographic Key Server for chip cards. It links to their key server in Italy. Laundry cards on steroids. I will not play with it because if they put that much effort it is not worth risking it. p.s tax season will be here soon time to get ready. Look for every deduction you can take. post again next week
  20. Ip addressing is a good thing to learn about. This will help you. Cisco, subnet masking, vlsm, ipv6. I dont know if they go into vlans, but this is more of a cisco voip thing. Cisco will talk about packet headers. Types of network cabling and how they work. I can go on and on but I wont.
  21. This is the highlight of my week Iam not going to post more than once. "Iam efficent not lazy" Do most Isps block these tcp 1720 I think. I should specify cable Isps. I guess Isp's are gonna do what the want why not for fun create a proxy to a port that is not filtered. To see how long it will take them to block the port. Some one was asking me about video confrenceing I am not therre yet did look on google for conflicting answers. Anyone agree try to find an isp with qos? There is a couple dsl providors that shove voice and video first. One has a name covad or something expensive. There is one close to where I live I wil try. Used them before when I could not get a normal cable isp. I mean we had some goofy cable company in what was a gated community. Now they have a camera system and rfid cards and remotes. Basically the old garage door remotes. Just tail gate someone in. "sorry okay back on track". My Isp sucks so I will use the dsl company in town. Just hope all of the phone jacks are intact in my apartment. Multisystem package in ubuntu is okay. Nothing like multipass that Shannon demonstrated. It did not work for all iso's. I got at least eight distribution's a 16 gb flash drive. The low light of my week some dork put a nasty yelp on the restaurant I work at/ live at a family thing. P.S I will not post again till next week, but might respond. Checkout Enomatic if you like wine. Catch you next week.
  22. I already posted but I Lenny Kravitz and The Dead. I have a few days worth of music on my computer.
