  1. Hi I am trying to neaten up my network room. I have 5 static ip addresses via verizon fios. There is one ethernet cable from the ONT optical network terminal. I plugged it into vlan1 with 6 ports. Connected a router for each static IP to Vlan1. Vlan2-6 are for each network. I just add as many ports as I need in vlans2-6 for computers servers printers etc. From the switch to the router. Each router plugs into its own vlan. ip ending .1 vlan2 .2 vlan3 .3 vlan4 .4 vlan5 .5 vlan6 This works well till someone up plugs something and it does not look neat. Is there a way I could do this with one router and one switch. Instead of one switch and multiple routers. Okay I want to know if anyone has fios with multiple static ip via ethernet not COAX. And tries to setup one router with subinterfaces for each static. Hell even if you had multiple static ip's over one ethernet cable and used the sub interfaces.
  2. Be gentle I know this is VOIP question. How much does the origination and termination cost. How do you use this. Is there a site like this that deals with asterisk and free switch questions. Yeah there are some things you can do with things like wireshark playing with the vlans with software utilities. Almost like southpark ease dropper.
  3. Actually a retail point of sale system...I have to setup a payment gateway on a point of sale system. This is something I have never done before. Do I have a choice. I used first data with my last two banks. It is easy I think to setup. Url password and secret key. I want to know if I can choose which payment gateway I use of does the merchant services group do this do this for me.
  4. Authorize. net or firstdata. Can my merchant provider choose or are they stuck with one. I know this is a business topic and not a computer topic, but I have to help someone make a decision and set it up. Thank you.
  5. Any thoughts or ideas on this makes a good web server too.
  6. I have an Idea inspired by cooper. I saw a few Linux dev boards that support sata USB and Ethernet. This is all I need. It would be nice to get one with USB 3. But not a requirement. I just want to put some Linux dist that supports samba. Vlc and other things for streaming media. Put a hard drive in it and 2 USB drives. Use it as a file server and maybe a media streaming device. Put my samba.conf try to mirror parts of my exhisting config. Setup shared drives and any other little things I need. I might need a powered USB hub. The thing is it takes up less space and power than my PC.
  7. I did my computer thing as usual "aka" work. I have a group that teaches us things about fishing and how to repair fish poles. Warning story ahead. We were finishing at our fishing group we hear something outside. We walk out there it is there neighbor who was talking to us. He was flying his drone it has blue and green lights. I want one of these!!!!! Anyway back to the real world. I figured something out at work.... The software attachmate extra is an SSH client and a IBM terminal emulator in one. IBM terminal I mean mainframe as/400 3270 etc. The cool thing is they have it setup so all the user has to do is click on the icon for each connection put in a user name and a password. The rsa key is imported into the connection and the user is happy. Lastly on my tablet it has a usb dongle. I can plug regular usb devices into it. I have a wireless mouse I plug it in and it works. I wonder if a usb ethernet adapter would work? Just a thought.
  8. Thanks I like the low power setup. Also the gateway box is cool.
  9. Cooper or someone had a link to really cool mini file server that uses very power. Right now I have a huge pc with many fans a giant heat sink. Fan on video card too. I lost the link did not bookmark it or something. I use my pc to edit images ,audio, basic video stuff, print work orders on it, record my guitar, watch dvd's and movies on read emails. Did I mention also is file server and I also have a setup so I can use it as a Terminal server to setup devices plugged into a serial port. It can also use it as a web, sftp server I just Email server don't have it turned on. P.S if you want to be a jerk wireshark a network with VOIP and capture the rtp packets. "Listen"
  10. See what epc has they have plenty of stuff. You may have to put a hard drive ram and an o/S on it.
  11. Fixed the samba config I will put that-on a flash drive as a templaate. I still think the mini files server is cool.
  12. Every business with over 50 people and multiple lines uses it. It is getting more popular, Cisco phones are still coming down in price. It is a competitive market there are lots of providors. Lots of companies use avaya phones. There are lots of asterix distributions including live cd's. h.323 is someting and software phones I don't know about. I here people work from home. Log into the client? I think the push ipv6 will help push lots of applications further that no one dreamed about. In a huge bank office with only 4000 people this is why they have a 10.0.0.0 network subnetted? flexibility. Lots to learn this year I will stop bugging you guys. p.s I setup no machine (rdp) on ubuntu using the putty and the console in another room to play with a cisco router "cheap terminal server".
  13. Sadly I have no problem with filezilla and scp/sftp. For users they really need a drive mapped is the problem. The security is not a problem it is on the inside of the dmz. I don't know I will keep pluging along.
  14. I have been having a tough time setting my share drives up from my Ubuntu server. I see my machine I click on it in network neighborhood. It asks me for a password I try my user PW no good. I don't have a smb PW set. I try to set one for my user I'd no dice. I was thinking about a NFS server setup. Short story long mapping NFS to a drive or NFS period is not available in win7 pro or 8.1. Is there commercial NFS client. Last post this year.
  15. I am looking for a desk phone. Up to 100 dollars. Wow there are lots of phones out there. Give me a few examples of phones you like. Feel free to play with wire shark and clan hopping. anyway I need a desk phone Cisco Nortel avaya shoretel etc. I don't know.
  16. It probably happened from inside or a former employee. Another company or even someone in the country of question. My answer is some countries super lock down internet and censor content. It could even be someone who does not like the topic of the movie. It would be similar to if someone made a movie about a company Balco i think the name of the company is. Sticking baseball players with needles to dope them with steroids. The sports media and major league baseball would jump on it and try to keep it from being released. Even if a movie was made about a big social issue like the way they commercial fish in the gulf of mexico. Try to hack into the network from outside to create bad pr ]ess or have someone from inside create negative P.R. meaning public relations. Data was breached at a couple of retail giants this year. Kmart and Home Desperate "depot" I think why did the cashier have to punch the numbers in all the time on my card. It is just a matter of time before we have another TJ max or Target incident. Good ole WIFI and FTP. The question should of stated since the Sony hack does it make the us gov't nervous about linux and open source users. Will they watch us more stringently. My take on this is it takes two brain cells to use Linux and zero to use windows. I repeat it is not the kids using Linux tools to learn about networking to go along with Cisco and Microsoft training. Keep an eye over your shoulder you are being watched.
  17. What does all this mean for the future of Linux open source and Kali.
  18. I used to run from this stuff. Now I had to pick a couple of emergency computer items out. To get to where I was going I was to drive through one shopping mall parking lot grr. Finally I get to the computer store get my 23" monitor and tablet and gtfo.
  19. Okay wait a minute all or most of these companies sell cable tv and or voip service. What if I was one of those companies and said pay more to get priority or pay us to use our shitty service. Push non service providor voip to the bottom behind all of the other traffic. I can see them making a internet plan for those who use their own voip service. I can see all those avaya, cisco and meridian phones being tossed a cross the room. The question I have is how do the major players like covad feel about this. The major backbone. P.S put more fiber in the ground and roll out ip v6.
  20. Thanks I made some progress. <old news> I ended up purchasing a usb floppy drive. Now one of my co workers wow I didn't know they made this. He has a customer with a tool that hooks to a computer. This tool cuts metal in various patterns. CNC lathe. I use this for dinosaur Point of sale equipment. For myself I purchased a 2000mw wifi adapter and 10db directional antenna. <oldnews>I have a 16 db yagi if all else fails. Now for the nick names and things people say. It is the quiet ones you have to watch. You are quiet and you are smart. Safe cracker over here found internet access. I say I am just a computer guy. and so on. One guy goes to say you mean computer god. My own mother calls me a dork. P.s did you get that mechanical pencil to pickup wifi or how about your guitar.
  21. Okay it is solved 2w wifi adapter with a directional antenna. Sadly the systems I sometimes work on computers attached to legacy cnc "a very lathe that cuts metal" machines, point of sale systems "IBM" do not support usb flash drives ebay has them for a dime a dozen. The last thing was about an proprietary ssh like by attachmate systems sadly I don't think putty will work with it. Consider it solved.
  22. Is this any good. Alfa AWUS036NH 2 Watt I use it mainly because I am too far from an access point. I also need an ebay special of the day a usb floppy drive for work working on point of sale equipment. This is a good question will putty ssh open attachment reflection session. It is based on F-secure ssh.
