  1. Doing polls in this area on this site is a bad idea as people on here largly don't have a clue what makes a good server, but there are a few. Anyway stay clear of Ubuntu as some sripts run oddly, well its what I've noticed and its really not a good server OS, really more of a desktop OS (yes even the server vertion). CentOS is basiclay Red Hat and is one the most useful things you could ever learn for working in networking past a level if thats what you want to do, plus its not bad. Windows server 2008 is also useful as learning how to manage things like exchange and active directory are really usful. I'd go with OpenBSD but, you would be better off with CentOS and just running a WM on it for Server 03 or 08.
  2. lol, that's because they were using a computer that was more then likely more than 10 years old at that point. It was okay, it was how I learned Basic and ASM although I did get the family C64 when they bought a PC in the early 90's.
  3. Yeah, switched jobs. I still have to fly back once a month, but the need for me to be there everyday has gone.
  4. lol, yeah last time I had to fly in from work this time I'm coming in on foot, well train. But yeah don't want to get shit nicked by non group members.
  5. Well OSX is the only real alternative to Windows, Linux is still not there, an example if you need one would be, I did an upgrade on Ubuntu which is probably the most usable distro and on reboot it went to black and would not go past it. It had an issue with my Intel graphics, I fixed it but normal people would not have a fucking clue how too. The medical and military industry are both moving a lot of stuff to Apple hardware as they are fundamentally more secure and reliable than Windows (although they have issues). At the end of the day you can not legally run OSX on anything other than Apple hardware.
  6. If there is interest and this happens, I could probably bring a portable oscilloscope, multimeter, temperature controlled soldering iron and so on, maybe even a logic analyser if people are interested. I have a draw full of random connectors and wires so if no one is into hardware hacking you could just add antennas to nearly anything with a little circuit reworking. Such as Which is an extra I have kept aside for moonlit
  7. Apple hardware is high quality and you are running the OS legally on the exact hardware which it was designed for, which is a big deal if you use your computer for work within any company.
  8. I think I only got into it as I like having a way of communicating long dissidences with out having to rely on cellular networks or cable/IP based networks.
  9. Not used that Nokia but they are one of the best handset makers out there so its probably good. I've got a Nokia 6131 NFC at the moment which I'm very happy with.
  10. I've passed my Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced so yeah I'm licensed.
  11. I'm not sure how many people are coming that will have a radio licence but for anyone that does or maybe just wants to contact us I'll be operating on 462.5625MHz at 5Watts most the time. If you don't have a licence I can pass out a few FRS/GMRS radio's as they get better coverage than PMR446 stuff and don't have much traffic in the UK on that frequency. I'm happy enough to let people play around with some of my Ham/radio kit too. We will also need to exchange phone numbers once we have an idea who is coming.
  12. lol, it was what I was told to do in school, I guess it stuck. I'm sure most people that will come don't use the forums but are still on IRC.
  13. Well 5 to 2 as of now. How long do people want to leave it?. We could call it June 5th to the 7th, so we have the Friday to relax, gel, maybe hit up 2600 and see how far a London based hacker space has come along, or whatever the group decides and then have all day Saturday and Sunday afternoon for whatever. Once something a little solid such as a date is decided we can see who can make it. Then pick a venue based on size of the group and start getting deposits to confirm who is going.
  14. scapy/scapy6 fragroute tcpdump
  15. lol, yeah its always me. Anyway I added a poll.
  16. You could make something potable using a cavity magnetron and some high voltage capacitors but I would not want to be near it when it was switched on.
  17. I'm not sure what you want but the only way to crash a plane with a little black box would be maybe some kind of EMP weapon although planes do have some shielding. If you want to knock out wifi I'm guessing you want a jammer, which are cheap enough to buy on ebay from China. You may need to mod it a bit to get better range. There is something called a Fon bomb which is made using a Fon but I tend to like jammers more as they do a better job. http://fonerahacks.com/index.php/Tutorials...ess-Jammer.html
  18. Your right only one that supports more is the Mac Pro.
  19. You would need to get 4GB sticks over the 2GB ones you have there as most Mac's only have room for 2.
  20. lol. In Berlin drinking involved huge amounts of Club Mate and me showing someone how to piss people off using Linux/wifi. Drinking with tech people is not the same as drinking with the normals.
  21. I'm happy with any date. Also looks like the Hacker Space idea is coming along as they are doing there first event this Thursday, so they may have something else by then to look at. They don't seem to have free wifi and by the looks of what they put on, such as pub crawls its only really good if you want to get blind drunk. Drinking is part of any meet up but its not a big part, just something you do while your talking shit or hacking away at something.
  22. lol, I think most people tend to just use there smart phone. I like the HP iPAQ 111 Classic for business stuff personally as I change my phone twice as year.
  23. I'm bringing my kit in on my back this time. BA are not robbing me again, lol
