  2. this is good to know actually. i am interested in learning about pentesting. but that offensive security is deathly expensive.... so a book would be nice. some good suggestions. will look into them more. also backtrack 4 is great to do pentesting on.
  3. what mouse is he using? it looks sick!
  4. government control over what you do is crap. im 16. i can tell you it comes down to parenting. i dont do that because my parents taught me not to. not because my school had a block on there Internet. although i dont agree with porn, its your choice. not the governments.
  5. i was looking at that, but it doesnt have enough room in it.... :)
  6. if you have a ubuntu cd boot it live and the disk utility is in it.
  7. can anyone actually shed any light on to this for me? im not sure what wiki leaks is, i guess its leaked info but theres big hype about it right now, call me out of the loop but i havent paid much attention to it, what is it and whats going on now?
  8. under ubuntu i just go to system->administration->disk utility its just a disk utility that uses SMART data. i called tech support for something a couple days ago, and the guy had me run a diagnostics on my bios that took a hour and a half and told me my disk was healthy..... idiots...
  9. with me recently getting a new laptop, im in need of a bag. any normal person (i read about normal people one time...)would go pick up a $20 bag and throw the laptop in it. but me, im in need of some specific things and wanted to know if any one can recomend me a good bag. either online or in a store. problem with online is that theres not many good pictures. things i need: fit a 17 inch laptop can carry a power cord mouse and mouse pad pen's cell phone pouch room for papers/notebook DVD's/CD's CAT 5 cable cable for cell phone flash drives would like to be able to carry a good sized book extra cables of diffrent kinds computer games strap for shoulder carry water bottle on the outside would be nice if water proof the book is a biggy for me though. it would be great to carry my A+ book or my unix for programmers and users book in there depending on what im doing. as a tech i want my full setup to be able to go in there. never really shopped around for laptop bags before.it means leaving the house..... i cant tell what bags come with what and how many pouches and where online. i would like lots of pouches. so i either need to go out and shop for one, which i am going to do, look around a bit at staples and radio shack, or i order it online but i need some reference's as i cant see much from the one image shown with most of them.... i was looking at the dell/alien ware orion messenger bag, is it any good and would it fit my needs? basically need to haul my computer power cord book and lots of accessories. being a tech crowd i would think some of you would know where im coming from with what im wanting here. so any suggestions are welcome! and let me know if you have or have tried the orion bag out... thanks! Kolton
  10. if you just dont like to pay then untangle should work (dont know if tis the best though) but if you are a open source advocate, then it may not be the best choice because it has a lot of software for it that is proprietary that they offer i think. i havent personally tried any of these. i listened to a podcast and they were discussing them. so this is only what i have heard.
  11. yaeh thats a command center. nice one to! okay so got some work done: server put in there fit in and closed just fine damn windows problems... added the hole for my networking equipment and firewall box. added hole for server monitor for my server set up. added networking equipment storage for extra hardware/accessories. thats about all for now. hope more coming soon!
  12. i love google links! where is it? also, i know obvously you need a good computer, lots of monitors, and lots of control, but should we set a standard maybe as to a command center?
  13. thats just what i will be hopefully turning into a command center. my computer and server are on the other side of my room. so what officially makes a command center is a good question i guess.
  14. yeah it will be money which is why it will be a slower processes but it will be fun! two and possibly three monitors across the tops. tv's or nice monitors in the two middle cabinets, computer in center bottom, server in left bottom, and networking/computer accessories in right bottom...
  15. so, i was watching live free or die hard for the first time yesterday, and after the movie my dad got up and jokingly said, "so wheres your command center?" it got me thinking, i should have a "command center" as of now, post pics of your "command center" (place your computers are) here so we can see your setup! and maybe work on a really cool command center set up as i do mine, be sure to post pics of progress to! and im going to be working on setting up my own little command center, ill post pics of my progress as i get it, but i have a nice piece of furniture that will work nicely to hold everything. so lets see what you got for a command center and ill start working on mine! (just recently tore it down because i got a laptop and used my desktop as a server...) and the piece of furniture i was talking about...
  16. hahaha, we would kick there butt. <_<

  19. i hate calling support and getting someone that doesnt speak fluent english. microsoft is that way when me and a friend were trying to get a xbox problem fixed and today with HP i had to call them, first one was not very clear english the next was fine though.
  20. we had a installation party and couldnt do the multi pass because we couldnt get to the episode.
  21. That is good info. and as good as small business server 2008 looks, this is on a small budget. i was thinking i would just build the server for them. thats why i was wanting to implement linux is because of the cost. but i dont know the effectiveness of it vs windows server as i never used either. there would only be about 10 people total on the server. and only 1 or 2 accessing it at any given time. like i said i am no server expert but i was thinking about getting a server case and then a decent mobo and processor with about 2 gigs of RAM. probably grab a 1TB HDD and a good power supply. try to keep the cost way down. i dont think i need special server hardware do i? i could built it like a $400ish computer with a big HDD and then throw linux server on there? or am i missing something? btw, thanks for the replies!! Kolton K.
  22. okay, so i am setting up the network for a small business. that will be no problem. they will be all connected to internet and to a scanner/copier/printer. tomorrow is when comcast will come out and thats when i will set it up. this company has a lot of paper work. we are wanting to go digital with it all. just scan it in. i was thinking onto a server. i was thinking about implementing a server but have never needed to do this yet so have no information on it. so im not sure if a server is what we want and if not hopefully you can shed some light. here is what we need: the owner of the company to be able to do everything, view documents, delete them add them all the good stuff. the workers need to be able to access documents to. especially ones there using for clients. but not all of them. and not be allowed to delete them. we need some documents to be accessible to anyone with a account, and some of the older ones and certain ones to be accessible to only the administrator. we also dont want anyone but the administrator to be able to delete documents. but anyone to add them. and you have to use a administrator account or password to put documents to the admin only section... so basically documents available to all but put a lock on some of them. we also only want one copy of each document. no duplicates as in one set for employees and then another set of those plus some for the admin. it would take up to much space. we need people to be able to access these through there computer. and be able to drag documents to it or to scan to it. and they need to be able to view them through there computer. we also need to be able to back this data up onto either a external hard drive or onto a second hard drive on the server in case a hard drive fails. also possibly back ups of the employees computers to automatically go to the server. every two or three days or something. the computers are all running windows. i figure we would put linux onto the servers. probably linux ubuntu server addition. and i think that sums up what we need. basically owner with ultimate access and employees with limited to protect the data in case of a disgruntled employee or lack of knowledge or something stupid. btw, the scanner has a 80GB hard drive on it so the scanned doc's will go there, we also want it to be forwarded to the server automatically if its scanned to the HD. Thanks Kolton K.
  23. I like long walks on the beach and romantic dinners.
  24. okay, so i have my multipass and i have it working. i can boot into some systems but none of them seem to be configured right. so i was wondering if i could get some help learning to set up the menu.lst file and to learn what is supposed to be reference for each OS to boot. what it looks like is i need the kernel and the initrd files to be specified in the menu.lst file for the OS to boot. i was wondering is this correct? also is there a place i can learn, or what is the code called that you use to make the menu.lst file? it looks like its just referencing of the files... another thing is im seeing these tree's mentioned but not sure what they are talking about. i think what im seeing, as a good way to organize the files and if this is not what other people are doing will it work, is to make one dominate menu.lst and in the folder for each OS make another menu.lst file containing the full path to the files being referenced. for instance in the dominant menu.lst file would look something like this. timout 120 color blue/black yellow/blue title Trinity Rescue Kit menu /TRK/trkmenu.lst title rescuecd menu /rescuecd/srcdmenu.lst menu may or may not be the correct way to specify the file path to the sub menu.lst file. not sure. and the the menu.lst file for trinity rescue kit would be something like: kernel /trk/kernel.trk initrd /trk/initrid.trk or something along the sort. so am i on the right path and when would something other than the kernel and initrd need to be specified? also does the OS folders have to contain a boot folder and a folder with the title? or could they both be in one folder? any light being shed onto this would do me some good! Thanks! Kolton Kuhns
  25. i added this to my multipass and i had to respecify some file paths. the first time i loaded the code in and ran it, it game me a error about not being able to boot. i changed the path from AVG/filename to AVG/isolinux/filename and then to AVG/usb/filename. that game me a long error message with a kernel panic. i then changed it to AVG/isolinux/filename and to AVG/isolinux/filename. one being vmlinuz and the other initrd.lzm it would say booting AVG repair tool and then shut my flash drive off and keep a blank screen. something im missing here?
