  1. Thanks a million guys! It's awesome to see that people who have never even met can find a reason to ostracize another for not agreeing with everyone else. Thanks to everyone, but I must give an über-thanks to h3%5kr3w for his "hall monitor" post which is a clear attack on me for having a different opinion, and this one for doing to the same lol Nice.
  2. Title is pretty much the same...., the topic is oddly similar as well. If four doods want something from you, they're going to get it one way or another. Mace, and Tae Kwon Doe? Your best bet would be not to carry the computer with you. Next is to install of of those "tracker" things. If someone takes your laptop, the next time they connect to the web it reports it's location and will take a photo if you have a camera built in. Last, BIOS/Firmware passwords, encrypted drive. I dunno.
  3. The printer isn't configured for "post script 3" (2 only)..., which is what our UNIX server uses. For whatever reason, pdf, doc and docx uses 3 and my boss hasn't or can't change it. Annoying, but I used my second plan and when the cp command yelled at me for copying the same file twice, I just went and found the uncopied files manually. Next assignment, this won't happen. Printing the documents was a pain: select all, right click, print, "Printing 200 documents will slow down your computer, are you sure you want to do this?," okay, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, open word, print, close word, x 200. Windows is bizarre.
  4. The thing is, the thread is about the four men's arabic decent directly. If race didn't matter, it wouldn't have been mentioned, and the thread is titled "I Hate to Profile..." which clearly describes that this is a racial issue because the OP "hates to profile" but did anyway (the "but Damn" part means he/she did). Second if it was Japanese or Sweedish people, there wouldn't be anything interesting here..., but the OP's intention, (wether intentional or not) was the implication that they were terrorists or something. This is furthermore solidified when the OP says they'll get his/her gun so he/she doesn't end up as a report on CNN. I have a feeling the OP will say, "No, I didn't think they were terrorists, but obviously you [me] did!," but there's no way to prove that. To set the record straight, I don't they they were terrorists. I think the OP did and was tying to rally like minded people. Even if I'm over analyzing the situation, the thread is totally pointless.
  5. HD chokes an Original MacBook air (the new ones are buttery I'm told)..., The new eeeBoxes have HDMI right?..., perhaps they can handle HD better...,
  6. HakHouse cam will be muy difícil as it's flash..., the ustream app must be accessing some secret .mov stream ustream's got. It'd be interesting to find that and be able to integrate it into another application (but ustream wouldn't be happy). The show episodes would be much easier, just parse the RSS feed. Seeing how iTunes can already stream/download episodes a lot of the functionality can be duplicated with safari + iTunes and ustream. Trying to combine everything into one nice place with instant access to the ustream+mintirc IRC channels and forums (perhaps a special iPhone optimized forum?) could prove convenient and useful. I'll add it to my list of things I might want to develop someday..., right now I'm working on a record label's promotional tool..., lame huh.
  7. I TA a UNIX class for my school and this week I'm grading papers. Our online homework hand-in tool arranges documents like the photo depicts. I'd like a convenient way to print all of these documents..., but they must be printed separately for the the finisher to staple them. Note, documents are .doc, .docx, and .pdf and there are about 150 "student username" folders..., which is about how many documents there are too. First I tried this: ls */*/*.docx > docxs Then using a substitute in vi to replace spaces with backslashes (everyone's filename is different), then to add lpr -printername in front of all the lines. Then I sh'ed that to execute, but it obviously didn't work because lpr won't print any of those files on our UNIX server (duh). It is supposed to print PDFs but we've been having postscript errors lately, according to my boss..., Then I tried: mkdir docs cp */*/*.docs docs My intention was just to FTP into the disk and print the copied files, conveniently in one directory, from my computer instead of the shell..., would have worked...but some students used the exact same file name, ex: "Homework1.pdf" and there were dozens of files that weren't copied. Worse, is that not all of them put their names on their assignments, and "Homework1" doesn't tell me who they are. Any suggestions? Other wise, it looks like I'll be going thru folder by folder printing them one by one.... For the next assignment, we have stricter rules for naming...(username_homework#.pdf), which will allow me to use my second idea without any worry of messing someone up. Thanks.
  8. I knew I was forgetting one majour brand.
  9. I have a feeling this thread will be locked for containing no useful information nor any real content and being horribly offensive...
  10. Well, you spelled "Lich" wrong on one line..., ;) You're sure $t4 isn't getting assigned a zero somewhere else? Have you tried putting output statements in all the if/else to track the value of $t4 as the code executes? I don't know what language this is, but am just reciting some generic debugging tips.
  11. I started by buying a "Learn C++ in 2 weeks" book, reading it then entering a programming contest in high school (I was promptly trounced and eliminated). Later I went to college for it..., and only had to take one semester of actual programming. Now I take classes on algorithms and whatnot. Hardcore math? Depends on what you want to program. I think you'll find that you won't be starting GUIs and most likely be working in a console/terminal for the majority of your first programs. Terminal programs are kinda disheartening for a beginner, it feels like you'll never be able to play with the big guns. To this day, I haven't written program/algorithm that required anything beyond basic high school algebra.
  12. My boss (when I worked at a coffeeshop) told me it was illegal to serve someone more than eight shots of espresso cause it's against the FDA. Not sure if it was true or not. You're in treacherous territory mister. I like the taste, but it always seems to be $1 more expensive than it should be <_< That said, I wouldn't mind having Red Bull on tap in my apartment.
  13. I've wondered how that would make one feel..., while Red Bull is pretty weak in terms of energy the combination must be a whirlwind for your body...
  14. I've been told that people with our persuasion exclusively drink Bawls. Poppycock I say! I'd like to know what other people enjoy. If it's for taste and value I personally have a love affair with Original Green Monster..., it's dreamy. ... but if it's energy I'm after, it's 5 Hour Energy. It's amazing how good those things make me feel. Even if it's a placebo, I don't care! The commercials totally apply to me: focus, energy, no crash, lasts forever, and it feels like I am extremely well rested. I'll allow to select more than one if you really can't decide like myself..., I'm not considering coffee..., even though I'm sure it's universally appreciated.
  15. It'd be more likely that there are more people getting internet in your area rather than The Machine Stopping.
  16. This spring we'll have a slew of good titles..., "backups" are great if you don't want to play online (there's a risk, amirite?, I haven't modded my Wii in a long time). I hope you choose to "not backup" those great third party games that are coming.
  17. Like Apple and the App Store, how would one judge what is quality and what is not to another. It's not necessarily Nintendo's place to say..., that's up to the consumer. I'm a little wary of the concept. Also, are plenty of bad games on the 360 and PS3 (Haze, *shudder*). I wouldn't point it directly at QA, but more with target market. The target market of Wii owners is casuals who don't game and don't always know what they are buying (whether it's true or not). This may allow developers to lower their standards. If the title sells without any effort, why bother trying harder for the next one? There are developers trying great things on the Wii (Skate It, Boom Blox, Sega, No More Heroes etc), and why people don't buy those titles is BEYOND me. It's like everyone has stupid syndrome. I'm woefully excited for Madworld, The Conduit and some Final Fantasy (Echoes of Time is a cross platform online DS AND Wii title..., sounds crazy!) games coming this year.
  18. I don't think Nintendo is allowed to lie about this, there are certain sanctions on companies. However, it is strange that a generic disc cleaner wouldn't work (probably cause the Wii doesn't have a CD player to run the actual cleaning process), but I wouldn't call it a conspiracy. The Google search is interesting..., I'd hope that Hak5 robots.txt would block searches to protect forum posters. Wishful thinking...,
  19. I guess I'm just disappointed that 28 year old isn't writing with some acceptable degree of clarity. In my dissection of your post, I had at least two situations where I couldn't even understand your qualm. You ARE 100% correct in saying it's a forum and language need not apply, but dood, I can't flame yeh if I don't know what yer sayin'. ;) :P
  20. I know you don't physically hate me, but it's the idea that you don't think I'm respectful. I'm really trying, but it's so hard when the OP's wild conjecture and baseless opinion are wildly praised. Moreover, you can't seem to respect my opinion either. I the Wii is terribad (Nintendo is seriously mishandling their success), but the OP's arguments aren't all valid and I was trying to bring an alternative perspective. The mere idea of this thread is pure flame..., You all don't like the Wii, I get it. I'm over it, 'tevs. The anonymity is not an excuse..., Okay, I'm not posting anymore.* *for reals!
