  1. Yep, definitely more expensive. And I'd STILL pay for it.
  2. Love it; classy for sure. I'd love to put the old rainbow logo on mine if I wasn't so terrified of damaging my only machine.
  3. I assumed that this post was for Mac users only, which means Windows/*nix users shouldn't vote. amirite?
  4. Well, I got office for free and it's got a lot of whirlygigs and giggledrops that aren't very useful to me... Pages is fineish for basic reports and essays, even google docs works perfectly fine for that. Pages also makes super good looking documents. Keynote is the real winner here and is FAR better than Powerpoint in my opinion. Presentations come out beautifully and are dead simple to make! Numbers is still pretty weak I'm told, but my spreadsheet use is extremely limited, and it's covered by Numbers (and Google Docs). I guess the reason I really like it is because it works like an OSX application, so everything "clicks" with me automatically. I have a feeling that there is going to be a whole crowd of non-mac using folks that are going to trash iWork and vote for Office. 'tevs, iWork hasn't failed me yet and has only done good, sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, its aokayforme!
  5. Vaio P's are WAY too expensive! More over, it runs vista. Doesn't it run the weakest available Atom processor? I can't imagine anyone wanting to spend $1,200 on a computer that will be barely able to surf the web. At least the thing is damn saxxxy.
  6. ~250,000 books isn't much? It's going to take publishers a very long time to start warming up to DRM free books -- like with music. I don't mind Amazon having a monopoly, as the Kindle itself is arguably the best reader available, and if my device is lost/stolen, the books/bookmarks/comments/notes/etc are transferred to a new device for free instantly. You should at least commend them for taking an effort (and money) to make it happen..., no one has come this close before and they should reap what they sewed.
  7. Oh muh gawd..., bill looks like a 12 year old boy.
  8. Instant classic..., adding that to my collection.
  9. Hah! IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP! (wait I did this on another thread...) Well, did their sexiness take your mind of Snubs for at least a minute?
  10. The kindle would be awesome for a college student..., 1 textbook for one of my classes = the price of a kindle..., however, most textbooks aren't available on the device. My roommate is a classic major and reads nearly 25 books a semester, mostly greek literature..., all of which is available on the Kindle... so jealous. As for IT people, it could be VERY useful if books are the main source of info..., it's all indexed and searchable, comments can be made, and it's all in one device. A smartphone/handheld seems like a good idea, but it has flaws: tiny screen, quickly depleting battery, diagrams/photos would require panning and couldn't always be seen all at once, and the annoyance of flipping the page every three seconds. On top of all this though, Then again, the in order for the Kindle to be remotely affordable, the owner would have to purchase over $350 worth of books during the Kindle's lifetime. My gadgetlust wants me to get one anyway.
  11. He doesn't look THAT bad.
  12. IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP IT'S A TRAP* In all honesty though, what would ever happen to it? The ONLY thing I could think of is someone gaining access to my account and deleting everyone,... but that certainly wouldn't happen to any of us, right? *(digininja's stealing your passwords kiddos*) *(jkjkjkjkhesprobablyacoolperson)
  13. Steve: Bill: I'm sure everyone's seen the Bill Gates ones..., And the most disturbing yet..., Linus:
  14. Awesome. Totally unrealistic, not useful, power wasting, unnessecary.
  15. Interesting,... evernote? I love the idea, but was never able to make it useful. What do you use it for/how do you use it? Well hurr's mine. Almost identical to my previous ones.
  16. What you're asking is to deny other people the right to their internet access that they paid for..., these people are entitled to it. Even still, it's at what cost? You're own personal gain and nothing more. On top of that, who gave you the right to decide that a legitimate internet using person shouldn't get access? I'm finding it hard to understand how'd you be able to discern that a 2mb connection is being shared amongst 200 people and has zero security. Almost like you're making it up to make your case more serious, and thus "have a good reason." I think you got the perception that this is a forum for "~malicious hacking~" which you assumed was some evil process we exploit to steal, cheat, and make life for others miserable. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but that's not the intention of what we do here. Go to any type of hackercon and say something like this and you'll immediately be ignored for being ignorant.
  17. At least all your machines are identical..., we have a several purple suns, then silver suns, then dells, then blah blah blah blah all different..., MAD UGGLIEZ. Here's my office computer set up..., Nothing too special. We have a few machine rooms, but the one I'm never allowed into is this one. :( I can get all the way down and right up to it but the actual doors themselves are sealed with magnets and my keycard doesn't have access. EDIT: I just noticed that both my wallpapers are zombie related..., irony? I didn't plan that.
  18. Is it true?! King Vako doesn't have the answer nor the GoogleFu skills to find it? It's the end of the world!!!
  19. Well, a photo of my office computer won't be anything too special (if I remember I'll get it tomorrow). The actual machine rooms,..., well I'd feel uncomfortable taking a photo of them.

Ouch..., Why not just open it up and put in a new drive..., it's just a ribbon/power cable, right? If that's not an option, send it to microsoft. You DO now have a three year warranty on that beast.
  21. Our servers are constantly being bombarded by chinese and russians..., It's annoying,... especially when they discover the email that generates support tickets..., thank god for white/graylisting
  22. ZP feels like it's been around -forever-. I can't imagine anyone who hasn't heard of it..., they show it on X-play, right?
  23. But these aren't computer stupid people. These are people that paid good money for machine that's four months old that ran like this from day one. They "think" that this is just how a computer is supposed to work, it's not that they know anything about windows. Example: I left my MacBook in Minnesota when I came back from winter break. While it was being mailed to me, I rented a brand new laptop from the rental disk. It's one of those..., computers with the frozen states that upon rebooting resets itself. It ran okay, probably half as bad as I described earlier, but it still took me about 8 minutes to get the thing started and online. I closed the lid to watch television and the freaking thing had the fan on (not full bore) the whole time, and died three hours later. In -sleep- mode. I know how to use a computer, Windows too. Ignorance is only part of it..., it can't always be blamed on viruses and shovelware. This happened to my old roommates with their College of Business assigned Dells too. I mean, the mere fact that you pointed out that it could be 1000 apps that start themselves, that the hardware is shitty, that they get a crappy wifi card, that users are constantly at risk when using the web...., doesn't that mean anything to you? To me, it's an obvious admission that Windows and the hardware they run on is awful. That rented notebook made me appreciate how great everything works so wonderfully on a Mac. Speaking of shovelware, is there a way to download the latest adobe reader* WITHOUT getting that fucking adobe air shit? EDIT: For windows* But this is me, are you saying we can't be friends? :o :( (well, I don't own a coffee shop, but I was a barista for years and bought my own machine) EDIT: Thanks, I wrote something like this, but it wasn't as eloquent. It's like, BSD is a the apple core and the rest of the apple is what, well, apple made? Bad analogy, but you all get it, right? It's SO much more than "a pretty gui on top of free software."
