if you REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to format you can do this (press enter or return for each line) Start > Run > 'cmd' > OK cd Desktop copy con screwed.bat shutdown -a ctrl + Z Now when that window pops up just double click on the gear icon on the desktop that says screwed and it SHOULD go away BUT THIS IS JUST A QUICK FIX YOU SHOULD DO AS VAKO SAYS AND NUKE THE DRIVE.. FORMAT AND START OVER.... if there is really a virus it could be recording everything you do.. i.e. Credit Card info/SSNs could be sent to someone.

No i get that cracking passwords from a hash and everything... and I'm not thinking of this for usablity stand point.. but from is it not a better idea for make the password accept anything? (instead of having a mininum length) to protect from a brute force attack? ie if I was going to brute force somthing making a minium password length only saves me from trying a, b, c.... aa, ab, ac.... zzzzz, zzzz0, zzzz1... there for from someone who was going to pick a password from 6-* chars anyway it only makes it easier for me to get the right one sooner?

Well it's very hard to understand what you are asking with your first post.. and second how did you format your drive?/reinstall all your software?

I was thinking and not knowing too much about how password cracking works I though I'd ask and see if anyone knew more about this... I don't use hotmail anymore, but I did at one point, and if I remember correctly the mininum password length is 6 characters. But becasue people don't like to remember long passwords they would make it as small as they could get away with.. i.e. 6 so if you were trying to bruteforce a password like that shouln't you start with only password at 6 characters long making the password less secure to brute forcing where you'd have to start with 1 character and go from there? Or do I have no idea what i'm talking about and am just talking out my ass? (I'm not targeting hotmail it's just the first thing that came to mind when I thought of making password have a mininum length) [edited for spelling]

Ya.. I have a tablet and the onscreen keyboard does come up(so you can enter a password when you dont have a keyboard) even before the Welcome Screen loads

I have no idea if this would work.. but what if you copy over the image and then install windows on top of that... according to Vako this will wont kill your data.. that combined with "Windows File And Settings Transfer Wizard" should give you what you started with... now all you need is someone who knows what there talking about to tell you if this will work or not.

That screen damage looks like the protective cover only... if all the number arn't on the sim CARFULY try to remove the screen WITHOUT doing more damage to the LCD(?) and you may be able to recover the numbers. Or get the same model and swap the screens. I lost my cell a while back and lost all the numbers I wasn't to unhappy about the phone... but all those number GONE.. SON OF A BITCH

Too many people pluged into the cable modem /DSL or whatever and it was being used for spam I had a fresh XP box (so they test the cable out) and I got like 30 messages in like 10 secs

My does this too I'm glad I'm not alone... anyone know why it does this?
