    Server OS?

    Thank you very much :D
  3. are you sure it's a router and not modem? Routers usually have a pretty reliable firewall when configured correctly. Modems do not have firewalls. Do you know the name, make, and/or model? (Belkin, Linksys, Netgear, etc.)

    Server OS?

noob to learn of course! So I can lvl up and become "teh 1337 h4xx0r" :P and should I use Ubuntu server or Desktop? The server won't have too much traffic. Probably < 10 ppl a day

    Server OS?

Anybody have any recommendations for a *somewhat* n00b friendly Linux distro that I can run Apache, OpenSSH, ProFTPD, and maybe Squid on?
  6. hahaha yes and i think I'll supply them w/ a free supply of nubeloob as long as they use my services ;)
  7. Yeah but I'll be distributing this to people w/ only the knowledge to log in on Myspace lol
  8. See thats exactly what I don't want <_< I already know how to point n click...
  9. This is what I found "$ssh -D 9999 username@ip-address-of-ssh-server" which opens a SOCKS proxy on port 9999 on localhost at username on ip-address-of-ssh-server. I'll be using putty so I'll have to figure out how to open the SOCKS port w/ it but I'll have to do some testing

    WLAN question

Wireshark can capture packets via Wifi or LAN. You can specify which type of files to capture which comes in handy when monitoring Wifi traffic so you don't pickup all broadcast packets. You can also sort the packets that you did collect by MAC, Destination IP, Source IP, etc. Chris did a three part series on packet sniffing that I would recommend you start off watching from beginning to end to get a short intro to the fun of packet sniffing ;) 1. Episode 406: http://www.hak5.org/episodes/episode-406-p...ns-with-synergy 2. Episode 408: http://www.hak5.org/episodes/episode-408 3. Episode 409: http://www.hak5.org/episodes/episode-409
  11. Right now my neighbor and I are in the process of setting up a Linux-based, pay-to-use, proxy server using SSH as to allude the use of a proxy. I'll be marketing it to people at my school because proxies are blocked quite quickly here. We'll probably have a webserver on it as well with instructions and necessary files (putty). FTP will be enabled to but only for our personal use. We started off using Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop but I plan on installing CentOS 5.2 this weekend which is more reliable and hopefully less point 'n' click. Sound like a good project to you guys?
  12. Episode 404. Chris infects a WinXP VM with virus/malware. ;) http://malwaredatabase.net/
  13. I've actually heard of people going to court over stuff like this (being sued by MPAA/DMCA) and getting away with it because they had an unencrypted router and the assholes (MPAA/DMCA) couldn't prove it was actually them. I'm not sure how true this is though so don't blame me when you get sued ;) You can also get away w/ ONLY downloading. NO uploading and you should be ok (99% of the time). And again, *cough* I do not promote the act of pirating ;)
  14. moving this to the Jasager forum would probably get you more help
  15. That's exactly why I started this post! haha I've been using BT2&3 for a while now, mainly for WEP cracking but I would like to get into the wonderful world of Linux to a greater degree ;)
  16. You said it! More hardware hacks and mods would be great :D
  17. I've found that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware picksup many infections that other AVs don't. Might wanna give that a try
  18. My IT class is centered around robotics for this semester. The robots, the Paralax Boe-Bot, come ready made. You can use their program "BASIC Stamp Editor" and write code in a, somewhat, modified form of BASIC. Takes either 4 AA batteries or a single 9v. They have a USB and serial version and can be debugged onscreen as well. Breadboard is connected to mainboard. They produce many components specifically made for their robots as well. Great documentation of the Boe-Bot and components too. Paralax Inc. - http://parallax.com Boe-Bot - http://www.parallax.com/tabid/411/Default.aspx
  19. yup! Who wants to take bets on how long it'll be until it's used in animatronic robots? ;) I think I'll forward this to my IT teacher :D Can you post the original link please?
  20. from what i gather, this guy has no clue what he is talking about. I think he means that whichever download he got of Winrar was infected with a virus made by some script kiddie using some "au70 p\/\/nR" program? Sound correct?
  21. alright I think I've got upwards of 30 as of now. I'll do some more tomorrow.
  22. everybody that wishes to help should go on http://www.proxy.org and use their random proxy app. It's what I'm doing right now ;)
