(Pi)neapple Pro Case Build

My original project, which is linked below, was a complete Pineapple setup with everything to run a WiFi relay. I decided I wanted to expand that and include a Pi in the setup so that I could effectively run MitM attacks from the Pi.

Below is my mostly finished product. I'm most likely going to add two USB fans to the top of the case to move some air. This will allow me to keep the components cool with the lid shut. Although, it's not very inconspicuous with the two HUGE panel antennas sticking out the side.

The Anker 8400mHa can power this setup for about 10 hours, which is plenty of time for me!

So I decided I wanted to see how much I could fit inside one of the Pelican 1050 cases. My goal was to have a complete WiFi relay setup that was mobile. Below I'll list out everything I purchased, and I'll post up some pictures of my progress so far.

wouldn't this one be better as you can have a higher voltage so the pineapple will run smoother? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGKR54

I was going to order that one, but the dimensions that were posted on Amazon would make it too large to fit in the case with cables plugged into it. After seeing someone who had bought one and put it in his 1050 case, it looks like it'll fit just fine, and the dimensions on Amazon are wrong. I still like that the 8400mHa version gives me plenty of room to work and run my extra cables.

woops I didn't even stop to thing about the size. but I am just going to get the 10000mHa, as I have plenty of room to work with and it gives me the 12v option for running all the usb stuff.

So, my priorities have changed slightly. I just ordered a Pelican 1150 case.

I have a RaspberryPi, which I've installed PwnPi on. So I need a bigger case so that I can fit everything inside. The combination of the two devices together give you essentially the ultimate MITM toolkit.

I also ordered some USB powered fans, which I'll run off the Pi to move air through the case. I'll cut some vent holes in the sides to provide fresh air and ventilation.

Once the new case comes in, I'll post up some pictures of everything stuffed comfortably inside.

Also, I've had the Pi and the Pineapple running off the Anker 8400 mHa for about 8 hours now and it's still going strong indicating around 35-50% charge left.

I'd like to report that after about two hours of having everything running in the case, it kept nice and cool. The reason I decided to go active cooling was because I found that the Pi was getting really hot inside the case even after just 15-20 minutes. I didn't want to risk destroying the life of my components, so for about $30 in parts, I was able to add two 80mm USB case fans.

Tomorrow I'm going to go pick up the screws that I need to finish the install, and I'll post up some pictures of everything inside.

So this is the finished product. I'm going to be picking up a different flat USB cable so that I can get that bulky OTG cable out of there, but she's finally done.

No heat issues, and I think it looks bad ass if I do say so myself.

This does look quite awesome. Do you actually have any temperature issues without the fans? I didn't notice any heat issues before, I am just curious as fans kind of destroy the integrity of the case a bit. Surely though, they look awesome ;)

I myself have the same case, I use it to carry around my dev-boards and utils I may need to do any developing. I did leave the foam inside so I have far less space than you. Then again, I don't use mine for actual execution.

I was having an issue with the Pi running entirely too hot for my liking when there was no airflow. I didn't have anything to measure the temperature of it, but it was uncomfortably hot to the touch. With the fans providing some airflow, it is barely even warm after hours of use. Also, the fans are completely silent. The only thing that makes noise is the sound of the air flowing through the box when it's closed.

As far as the integrity of the case, I decided to drill holes instead of cut out the entire area under the fan for that reason. I wanted to maintain the rigidity of the case while still allowing airflow. You can't see from the pictures, but I cut small holes in the sides and the back to provide a source of cool air. Even with all the holes I put in the box, I'd still feel safe using it as a step stool. Although, it's not quite as waterproof as it once was ;).

PS: Not sure why I wrote flat USB cable. I meant flat ethernet cable. Brain apparently didn't catch up to my fingers.

Hi Shadow!

Does the D-link USB hub need to be powered using the anker? Or just juiced via pineapple? I'm struggling with usb hub issues because of power...

THanks

@d1000 I think that the pineapple is back-powered from the usb-hud in ShadowBlades first setup. Looks like the USB-hub is not longer needed in the improved setup.

@ShadowBlade Awesome setup, care to enlighten the forum about the setup sw-wise (any special modifications?)? Standard pwnpi 3.0 on Pi (connected to ...NHA + Pineapple), and a Standard Pineapple (panel-antenna + sandisk) - Both devices powered directly from the Anker?

Can't wait to get this mobile/car-installed!

I'm good friends with Shadow. Yes, all devices powered by Anker. As for software, we are currently writing a slew of CLI tools to extend/improve the functionality of the pineapple onto the pi. We have successfully ported a lot of the SSLStrip and URL snarfing tools. We are waiting on the API hooks reportedly in the pineapple firmware 3.0 to allow packet manipulation, and our current project is passive/active fingerprinting of all machines connecting to the pineapple to allow us to fine tune metasploit/armitage attacks on the clients. We are polishing them now, but all tools will be released on the hak5 forums.

EDIT: additionally, our tools will also be usable over BT5r3 to do attacks without a pineapple, for all you guys without the hardware but want to play along ;)

Pretty much everything in the case is running off of stock firmware. The PwnPi is indeed 3.0, but I upgraded all of the programs to the latest version (apt-get upgrade... nothing fancy). There were a few additional programs that I did install such as gawk and vim. The Pineapple is the latest stable release, which is 2.7.0.

The panel antennas are just the standard Alfa 7dBi panel antennas. Just like the ones that are being sold on the Hak Shop.

As Dopey said, everything is powered from the Anker. In my latest build, I dropped the HUB because it was no longer needed. Before I was trying to run everything off the Pineapple, but now I'm running the WiFi relay through the Pi. The Pi has two USB ports of it's own, thus no longer needing the D-Link.

If you want to run the hub with the Pineapple, you'll need to power it with a USB to Type M adapter connected from the Anker to the hub.

If anyone has any other questions, let me know. I'll be happy to answer them.

Hi i like your pelican 1050 setup, iv recreated it with a 10000mHa Anker haha its a lil to big but can just about fit ;) i was wondering if anybody knows were i can get a small 30cm USB to Type M in the UK. The one like in hak5 shop http://hakshop.myshopify.com/collections/accessory/products/usb-power-cable.

i can only find 1m length cables and that might be to large for my little box. I would order from hak5 but custom cost, delivery costs and the time it would take is just stupid for just a little cable ha
