Bearrach
I have recently reinstalled XP and Ubuntu on my laptop and what I would like to do is backup my XP partition to DVD, ideally using free linux apps. I have a 15GB NTFS partition of which 4GB is being used and would like to backup this up to a DVD so that if needs be I could put this back on the hard drive without wasting the hours which it takes to install and update windows. I know you can do this using Norton ghost but I am hoping there is something in the FOSS world which would do the same thing. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance
deleted
why not use the DD command and then burn the iso? dd if=/dev/disk0s of=/disk.iso obs=2048 Change the Disk ID and File. (i think that is it)
Blunderboy
I personally wouldn't use Ubuntu as the primary workstation to back up a whole partition. I would probably go with a bootable Distro that specializes in data/partition backup.

Possibly giving a name/link to this "bootable Distro that specializes in data/partition backup" you speak of might help him instead of him hearing your opinion which gives no insight into what he needs help with. giantjoebot
I can't remember which one has it, but either DSL or Puppy, which are both live CD distros, has the tools that you are looking for.
mleo2003
Not to add more clutter, but a recent LifeHacker article seems very applicable to this situation, with some modifications, of course. I'll leave those up to you. http://lifehacker.com/software/geek-to-liv...e-cd-292972.php
