  1. I remember when I built my first computer I was afraid that someone would steal it, since I had put so much money into it. I started a similar thread over at another forum. The conclusion that I came up with was I got renter's insurance for $10 a month. It covers theft, fire, ect., and everything I own in my house, but I guess that doesn't help with a mobile device. Of course, I do have insurance on my cell phone. I say just get over it. Practice safe habits that will make it less likely for your mp3 player to get stolen, and get on with your life instead of worrying about it.
  2. I've never made a LED circuit before. I'm sure I could figure it out. Still would help if I could see it done first, and I still think it would make a good segment.
  3. I found an article that tells you how to fix a dead LCD using a cheap cold cathode case kit. The method is a bit dangerous because of the stuff in the bulbs. At the end of the article, he says that he has been email a bunch of times by people that told him ultra bright LED's, about ten work. This has an advantage since it doesn't carry the danger of the other method, the LED's last forever, and I think possibly use less electricity. The only problem is that I couldn't find anything, with a quick google search, on how to do the LED method. They have done a few segments with LED's, and I think this would be a perfect segment for the show. Personally I would really like to learn how to do this, because there have been a couple of LCD that the bulb went out at my work. They offered them to me, and I turned them down. Now another one is going out, and if I can fix it, I'm sure I can find a use for it. Here is the article that I mentioned http://www.inventgeek.com/Projects/shorts/overview.aspx and here is a quote about using LED's It would be interesting if Hak5 did it so we can see if it get the streaks or not.
  4. Its just like P2P. They busted 32 people and businesses. There has to be thousands of people with modded consels. Its just a scare tactic like the people that get sued over P2P.
  5. I can't remember which one has it, but either DSL or Puppy, which are both live CD distros, has the tools that you are looking for.
  6. Its actually a lot simpler than that since I'm using nview to control the desktop background. All I have to do is make it so that the image gets replaced, but keeps the same file name and location. I just tried it this. I created a folder called image, and copied a image into it, and renamed it "image". I set the background to it. I then renamed another image and renamed it "image" and replaced the other one, and restarted. It worked, the desktop image changed after the restart. Hell I could create seven folders and have seven different images in them, and schedule them to be replaced each day of the week with task scheduler. Then all I need is a batch file that will replace and overwrite the image file that my desktop is set to. Even if it takes a restart to change the image, thats fine. Since I generally turn my computer off when I go to bed.
  7. I remember there was an episode where they showed how to write a batch file that would de-frag your hard drive according to a schedule, and I'm looking to do something similar I run a dual monitor config with a nvidia 7900GS. The nview utility allows me to put different images on each desktop, I keep the second one black. I want to change just my main monitors desktop image automatically. I already tried a powertoy called desktop changer, but that didn't work. So I was thinking that it should be possible to write a Batch file that will copy from a list of images, rename it, and replace the image file that my desktop is set too on a schedule, such as each day of the week. Is this possible? If it is then I need a lot of help because I have never written a batch file in my life.
  8. Hmmm...well its uses flash Maybe you need to update flash, or try it in another browser.
