stingwray
Yes, the only downside to this is though that the computer you put the flash drive in will have to be able to boot from USB. Not all can do this and certainly most older computers don't.
metatron
Yep, I'm not a big fan of phlak, you should try BackTrack or customized SLAX to suit your needs.
PoyBoy
customized slax is great. I can include my not-so-standard wifi drivers
Duelus
why not make a gentoo cd with all your needs and put it on a credic card sized cd ?
metatron
why not make a gentoo cd with all your needs and put it on a credic card sized cd ? I have a customized version of Kororaa (based on Gentoo) but it has issues with around 30% of the computers I have tried it on.

I'd have to agree with you, I have a copy of Kororaa and it doesn't like my pc for some reason. I'd also have to agree with poyboy. Customised Slax owns. Darren Kitchen
On a related topic, can anyone suggest a USB flash drive that does CDROM emulation. Meaning that it tricks the operating system into thinking it's a CDROM. I know I've run across one but I can't seem to track it down again. Are you trying to get the flash drive to work if they have disabled usb mass storage devices in the OS?
Darren Kitchen
No, it's so that the autorun feature works on insertion. The way it works now is that autorun scripts just pop up in the "wtf do you want to do noob" screen when you inset the drive by default. I'm looking to do something sneaky. moonlit
Hmm... I know what Darren means, I read a couple of articles on them a few weeks back - basically, as far as the OS knows you've just plugged in an external CDROM drive but in RL it's a flash stick... I can't remember what they're called though off hand... Edit: Info here.

stingwray
Can't you write a good old autorun.inf which will launch whatever you want it to run? You can do some really interesting stuff with that.
moonlit
I'm pretty sure there's a registry hack that turns autorun on for any removable drive...
