Was The Film Hackers Based On True Events?

It is not based on a true story. It is a fanciful telling of a story that has probably never happened involving many dramatized tricks used by hackers. If you want a closer to real life movie check out Wargames. Again, it's quite a fanciful story, but the 'hacking' involved is more grounded in reality.

haha wow, thanks man. this guys laid it on pretty thick, saying he really did know the guy that crashed the NY stock market servers but I couldn't find anything about this 11 year old genius kid. nor could I find an origin for the story that was told in the movie i had a feeling it wasn't true. the hacking in that movie seemed too perfect and mystical haha.

thanks for your help. maybe one day ill learn the art of hacking, it seems like a pretty interesting lifestyle.

Is Wargames based on any real events? Hacking part was cool and quite real, but story is really unbelievable.

Hackers is actually based on true events but the movie is tiny truths mixed with Hollywood lies. Also, if your friend says that he knows _cool and referred to that individual as a "he" I'm going to say that most likely he is lying as _cool isn't a "he". _cool originally did learn to code in Unix (military coding) though. _coo also has a contract to participate in what was referred to as "Project Linux" back in the day but after "the situation", that contract was terminated. The character known as "Acid Burn" was actually biologically male. That individual was actually known as "Cid" or "Sid" depending on "things". I know _cool still around, maybe in Newark, NJ. "Cid" was Phillopino. The court records are sealed as there are many records that are hidden and flagged by "government" agencies related to the legal name of the actually _cool. Maybe _cool wishes people knew the Truth...

Also, _cool was not 11 when this happened, think closer to say 4.5 to 6. A genius autistic savant that was brainwashed and tortured used by the "government". I'm not sure why you are all talking about this anyway. And yeah, the movie was trash mostly. The sprinkler scene though, there might have been some truth to that maybe...maybe someone who was there would know???
