Good Inexpensive Firewall?

There are tons of firewalls out there. The really good ones i can suggest are, PFsense, Smoothwal and Untangle. They are all Linux based firewalls.

If you are looking for something more, stand alone like a personal firewall, you could try Comodo Free Firewall.

Untangle I think requires a whole box to be the firewall, correct or no?

Correct, it does require a whole box, the same goes for the other firewalls Smoothwall, PFSense except Comodo.

If you want to slow down an attacker, you could set up something like a honeypot that basically works as a bait and lures an attacker to it. You could then install some goodies into it to make the attacker more interested in that box, than any other box on your network.
