  4. ./configure rant make sudo make install rant Seriously. If i go up to someone with very little experience in computers and ask "So are you using ubuntu", they will probably respond "What is that". Its not entirely her fault, there are multiple scenarios for this to play into. All these "stoopid bitch", "retard", comments just go to prove that most linux users are elitist/arrogant/ass hats and thats why the OS will never be main stream. At least with windows you dont have to hunt down a bearded man to help solve your problem. Googling a problem is not common sense for every one. There are people out there that do not use linux and are smarter than most of use, a doctor for example. Just because some one doesn't understand it doesn't make them a bad problem. All this "Any one with half a brain can use linux" nonsense is played out, maybe if your brain was twice the size as a normal brain then yeah. The media did however handle this story in a bad way. They should have covered the facts: Dell now has the /choice/ to ship with a different OS, Some people are unaware of this, Here is an example. Also, I use linux as my main OS with windows VMs. Linux is not the save all to beat all. ctrl+c
  5. means its not in the repo. go to the developers website and see if there is a .deb if not youll need to download the tar.gz and make it ./configure make sudo make install
  6. Honestly it not all her fault. She tried to remedy this by contacting dell and asking for a windows version laptop and that is a plus for her, but what gets me is that is the only place she contacted. It is possible some one sent her a link and it went right past the dell disclaimer. I use linux and still run windows VMs so linux isnt the solve all/save all for everyone. OpenOffice is ok at what it does but Word is still the standard. There are a few online programs that can come close, google docs, but its still not a full featured program. Still the blame lies with the consumer. It is the responsibility of the consumer to educate them selves when buying a new product. Do not expect a company selling you the laptop to hold your hand every step of the way.
  7. Nice work operator I can see plenty of uses for this.
  8. And Im sure no one at the university would help her... 1 announcement over the intercom "Girl needs help setting up Ubuntu", would have brought geeks from near and far.
  9. lol i have one and could do that
  10. That makes a big difference, if youre in charge of making sure things work then yeah these tools can be of great use. In fact I use then all to monitor my botnets, not mine but storm and kraken. The problem occurs when you have some one with intentions not so savoury.
  11. Either on Linux or Windows. Encrypting the Disk isnt hard, but doing it so that 1 Password gives on thing and another gives something completely different is another thing. I understand that if the program says it can do that then someone may get suspicious, however how are they to know which password i gave them?
  12. I would more than likely fire an employee with Wireshark or Cain installed. I do not need an employee ARP spoofing and capturing others data/passwords. If he was a network admin i can see having those tools, but if all he is processing data, i.e. customer support, there is no reason for him to have that. BUT Im pretty sure I would do the same thing. Its really a hard decision.
  13. I am looking for a program to encrypt a folder or dive, either or doesnt matter. Now the twist, I want to be able to set up two passwords. Here is an example. Make Folder/Partition Encrypt Data Set Passwords Password 1 == Gain Rights to drive with all data Password 2 == Gain Rights to the drive but with different data So say i am at a check point and they want to view my encrypted folder, I give them password 2 and it shows some randumb jpegs and text files, but the real data i am trying to hide is only uncoverable with Password 1. Ive seen rar files act up when given passwords that do not match but for some reason opens the rar. It will give you an out put but its mostly rubbish and makes no sense. This was experienced when there was a thread about rar cracking.
  14. I will do it, send me a PM and I will give you the links and price estimate for said project.
  15. Havent heard any news on it yet. Hopefully they honoured it.
