I have an old computer that I would like to put FreeNAS on. The only thing is is that it is pretty old. I know I can install FreeNAS on it but I don't know about the 137 gb hard drive limit. I would be getting a PCI to SATA adapter so I can use SATA disks. Would this eliminate the problem or is it a BIOS thing? If the controller card didn't work could I partition it into smaller sizes (100ish GB each) and have it recognize all of them? I would probably be getting a 500gb drive and the computer I think is from 1999. It has an "AwardBIOS".

I am thinking about making a digital photo frame from an old laptop. The problem is most of the old laptops have a 4:3 screen in them. Will the pictures look stretched on a 4:3 screen as opposed to a 16:9 screen. If they do is there any software that would limit the screen from a 4:3 to a 16:9?

I dragged out an old box I had lying around. It has a Celeron 500 (ish) processor and 192 MB of RAM. I installed Ubuntu on it but it is running too slow and keeps freezing. Can someone recommend a lighter distro that had plenty of features and would run faster on my system?

I like in PDF's that you can search them and find what you're looking for quickly but I do like having a book in my hands.

I am looking for a screensaver that will display random images from a folder of my choosing. I am looking for something similar to the one built into Windows. My question is: does the preinstalled one display images from a networked device (I can't test this right now because all of my networked computers aren't working right now) like another computer or a NAS (I'm thinking of building a FreeNAS) and if it doesn't, can anybody suggest one that does?

That would work but it has always been on and is in the exact same spot (because I stickied it there). Is there a setting that magically turned on the mic because as far as I know it never recorded unless I was in a program that needed it.

I figured it out. I have a mic that is always plugged in and it is giving feedback. Why is it suddenly recording? Now that I have the problem there should be an easier way to fix it. I just don't know how.

I found out what it was called. MidiMellow. It was the first hit on Google but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web now.

I installed an Mp3 to MIDI converter and it did something to set up my sounds when I installed it. It didn't do what I wanted so I uninstalled it. Now my sub emits a super low pitch constantly. I don't remember what the program was and I can't find it again on Google. It is really pissing me off and I really can't use my speakers. What can I do to get rid of it?

Is there any way to take an MP3 that I have legally ripped from a CD and taken the vocals out of and add the lyrics to make it play on a Karaoke machine. I already have the MP3's that I have taken the lyrics out of and now I only need to add the lyrics. Is this possible? If so how? I have googled it and didn't come up with anything.

I have a folder with 500 songs in it. They are all MP3. I had them all in iTunes when I noticed some of them wouldn't play in iTunes. There was no gray exclamation point or anything, iTunes just skipped over them. I deleted all of the songs in that folder from iTunes. When I went to import them only 388 of them came in. Windows Media Player and VLC plays them just fine but iTunes won't open them. What is wrong and how do I get them in?
