  1. My Goal: To develop an application, that will scan for bluetooth devices, and send them a message. I dont wanna take over someones phone, or gibson.. just simply send a text message. Maybe with a pic, if i feel fruity! going further.. maybe log all the mac addys so i dont message the same person more than once. I would describe myself as competent with C++.. so not an expert, but enough to get by Ok, heres my Q: So i have my laptop (ubuntu) with bluetooth enabled. how can i get my program to speak to that device? any ideas would be great. I know theres a lot of bluesnarfing stuff everywhere, but i'd like to learn how its done! Or even link to an "opensource" one that already exists that i can ave a look at. some of the ones i downloaded, are all in spanish, or windows only, or are made to hack phones... so not really what im looking for! Merci!
  2. ^^ Agreed ^^ The way i see this though, is as a "softcore" or "nobody", i wouldnt hear about the hardcore meets.. im just not in those circles. DEFCON and HOPE kinda expect newbies there, and so a are free with the advertising. Even the superest hacker in the world, asked these questions at one point
  3. Unpasswrded admin account? i think theyre nailing him to detract attention. He is a bit of a space cadet though
  4. hows about you get in contact with the people that organise the smaller cons you talked about, and join with them, and make somethind collabartivly? call it something like Collaberate09, The Mindset, GeekConUK,Technolust, Hackers UnitedKingdom
  5. Haha and girls who'd sell their body for an Epic Mount in WoW :P
  6. Weird Science? Swordfish... i mean... cmon.. who wouldt like a BJ while hacking a goverment system? I watched Taekdown AFTER having seen Freedom Downtime... And although they depicted Mitnick as the "Bad Guy" as the story focused on him, from my POV i think it expressed some of the things the 2600 ppls raised. One of his lines is (Almost..) "I can transfer money from any back in the world to my account, or to any account but i dont, i could do it but i choose not to.. why are they after me?" And later: "Why am i in here and you're not?" (dont wanna spoil the movie.. but if you seen it you know where its from) I dunno if that side of things was written into the script, or added, but as an evil superhacker who can set off nuclear warheads by whisteling down a phone, they showed him in a better light then i thought they would!
  7. VB.. dunno why, but i find it easy then C++
  8. Hey guys, Im just wondering if anyone knows of any good reads.. Ive read: Mitnicks Art of deception + art of intrusion Abagnale's Art of the Steal Bringing down the house any reccomendations along the same lines? i know theres a lot of crap out there. that or "Hax0ring my Skool 4 Dummies" :P
  9. I spotted this Daily Mail link Now obviously downloading games is illegal, but if you know someone who might be prolific at it.. maybe show them this?
  10. s'a shame i rejoined the forum so late. Could have probly made this one!
  11. I did see a cool thing in Maplins(Like radio Shack)... Where you can run your setwork signal through the existing power wiring in the house. irrelevent, but cool. You looking for H/W or S/W or a Thesis?
  12. Im a bit late, but im in. So Far: Set#1: b ) Mod a console - Wii cyclowiz Chip Set#2: c) Read books by famous hackers - Both of Mitnicks Books (Art of Deception, and Intrusion), Frank W Abegnale's The Art of the Steal (more social engineering, that one) Set#4: a) Dumpster Dive b ) Infiltrate a Condemned Building Set#5 c) Lecture a civilian on what its is to be a 'Hacker' (When some guy saw me running a few unix commands in Mcd's) Set#8: a) Watch Hollywood made hacker movies: Hackers and Takedown (and wargames) b ) Watch a hacker made movie: Freedom Downtime Set#9: a) De-Microsoft your computer: Ubuntu on my MSI Wind b ) Dual boot 2 OS's: Fedorea Core 7 and Windows XP c) Upgrade your Mobo/CPU or overclock your computer by yourself: this gets done like twice a year d) Completely Disassemble/Reassemble your computer: Happens same time as above Set #10 (Social Engineering): a) Get Free Pizza: Diddnt use 'the broken' Tehnique, but got one anyhow b ) Get Someone You don't know to tell you their Password: My Brothers mate, who couldnt believe i could hack it out.. so i showed him the MD5 hash, and he said "Hah, thats not my pass, my pass is ***" Idiot. Also today, i got a password from the guy at the head office helpdesks password :o I really wanna get on with the HW stuff, but will most probs get the WPA and wardriving done later this week!
  13. a wee note here...While installing ubuntu on it, i came across a nifty peice of software Im not sure if its been featured, but ah well. The Wind doesnt have a CD drive, and unetbootin downloaded from http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ was my answer :) It mounted the ISO on the USB pendrive, and when i booted from there it workded like a dream! It has the option of downloading the distro of your choice, or mounting an ISO you've previously downloaded.
  14. Hey guys! Been off Hak5 for a while, but i thought id come back :) Anyhoo, Yesterday i got meself an Advent 4211, which is basically a rebadged MSI wind. Let me tell you.. i love it. Cost me £275 (just over $500) And for that i get: a HUGE 10" widescreen, 80gb HDD(not SS like the Eee), 1024Mb DDR2 RAM... and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Processor. It weighs in at a bit under 3lb's, and came standard with windows. The speakers are bit crap, but its not a media PC so it doesnt really matter! this is my mess around laptop, i loaded it up with ubuntu, as almost everything works "out of the box" and the things that dont (suspend and the wifi) can be fixded. I have a new wifi card on order, and opening the badboy up witll be a definate scary experience. Oh and i just got some Hak5 stickers.. which no box is complete without!
  15. For me... Getting a AAA on DDR "Do it all night"
  16. Can you not try plugging it in, and varying the wattage , and change it till the iPod sees the charge, then multimeter it to find out the wattage?
  17. I wouldnt be convinced, error correction on a CD/DVD can usually handle most scratches, but theres obviously been some data removedotherwise you'd be able to use it... plus, you'd melt the plastic membrane on the outside of the CD first... AND it will be weigter wrong and make a horrible noise in you player. however, ive only really dabbnled in CD stuff.. so somone please correct me :)
