  1. Phone phreaking is not just about free calls it is about the exploration and understanding of the phone system and services and it gives you the knowledge of basic electronics and social engineering. I will admit that in most cases including my own the reason they got in to phreaking was to get free phone calls but along the way you learn and get interested in electronics and other things like the ability to shutdown someone's telephone line.
  2. I would help but I have a flight out of the country tomorrow and will be busy for some time.
  3. Phreaking as a whole has started to disappear in the UK and has been sine the mid 90’s as the phone system has improved and the cost of services have decreased. I have been going to DefCon for a number of years and the phreaking scene seems to be very much alive in the US, although a lot of the focus on it have gone away from it. I originally learned Phreaking because I had a Commodore 64 and a modem and it cost a lot to dial into computer systems in Europe and the US and as a 14 year old I didn’t have a job or any money. Even today the skills come in useful such as you tapping your friends phone for fun or the ability to pick a lock if you lose your house keys. (I like the story)
  4. I’ve used both and I like Vegas more, it’s faster and easer to use.
  5. Guns N Roses was the first band I ever saw live and it was excellent but with out the band there not Guns N Roses and I would not see them.
  6. All modern studios use computers and use software such as Cubase, Sony's Acid, Reason, Sonar, Apple pro logic, Pro Tools and Gigastudio, the fantastic thing about this is that it has dropped the price and the time it takes to produce a song and still keep the quality high and allows the average person to set up there own home studio which could not be done 15 or 20 years ago. I my self use Cubase and Apple pro logic hooked up to an TASCAM DM3200 Digital Mixer with the Tascam MU1000 24-Channel Meter Bridge and IF-SM/DM expansion card and IF-FW/DM FireWire card so I can hook it to my Mac or PC. This allows me to record any voice work or if I just want to jam with a few friends, the software and mixer allows me to recorded each instrument as it own channel and then edit and improve the overall sound and mix it down to a CD. It is debatable if today’s music is better or worse then before the use of computers in music production but all I think the computers have given us beside a lower cost and faster turnaround is the ability to have people that sound like shit live, sound really good on a CD and I don’t think that’s all bad. If the greatest musicians of all time such as John Lennon and Jimmy Hendricks where still around today they would be using computers and there music would still sound the same.
  7. Yeah, the US telephone system is outdated and has a lot of holes that are not present in the UK system but Beige boxing is still very much alive and working in the UK but a big part of what the UK Phone Phreaker has to deal with today is Social engineering to get things done. This is a good source for British Phreaker's to see what boxes work and which are bull shit. In the UK most of the new wiring cabinets (also known as PCPs) are locked with reasonably good locks so it is well worth investing some money on a set of picks (you can pick a small set up for £12) and learing how to pick locks. A good set of picks will last you a life time so if you can spend more it is worth the layout. BT Wiring Cabinets Guide

  13. I have loved phreaking and dumpster diving all my life and the ability to run and jump over walls have always come in handy when dealing with the police and Security when you just can’t talk your way out of a situation. You find the more phreaking and dumpster diving you do the more your have to run and the faster and thiner your get.
  14. Anyway back on topic……Fat people
  15. The FBI uses the Glock 40 so you could always join.
  16. There one of the most reliable sidearm in the world and very light.
  17. In an ideal world I wouldn’t have to carry a gun but for my old company to get insurance on equipment in parts of the world I have no other option then to carry a gun.
  18. I’ve never killed anyone but yes I have had to shot people.
  19. Well yeah, I was working in South Africa Last year working and I stopped at a traffic light and two guys tried to car jack me and I was glad I was armed when one of them pulled a gun on me, they felt that my life had a price and that was my car. America is no where as bad as South Africa but when you’re carrying equipment that is a prototype and is worth upwards of a hundred thousand dollars, you have to be prepared to defend your life. I misread your post, I apologise, didn't see the "in the eyes of lots of people including my old company" and I'm a twat. So your anti gun and yes I’m a Twat.
  20. If it is in defence of my life I am legally with in my rights to kill them and the company I was working for fully supports the use of deadly force when situations calls for it. All information on my laptop involving work is encrypted but prototypes cost a lot of money to make which could be reversed engineered. In most cases you find that once you have shot one or two of them the rest will run.

  22. My god, you're over a 1000 posts. That's probably more than double the next closest person. Your Hak ++ should change to uberforumfan or something weird like that. I got a concealed weapons permit as I have equipment and information that is worth more then my life in the eyes of lots of people including my old company and they insisted that I carry a gun at all times.
  23. Converter. I just gallant at your post, the thing is no longer in use it was made in 2002. It’s an easy mistake to make.
