  1. Clarion MiND can be had for under $100 used, and under $200 new. If you want to run Backtrack, its doable (not sure if anyone has tired) . Stick with x86 if you want support. That or pick up a cheap used tablet PC and just replace the Windows XP install.
  2. Hope it goes well, I don't think I'll make it to your talk but I'll be at the con. To be fair I might make it, if it does not conflict with: OUR INSTRUMENTED LIVES: SENSORS, SENSORS, EVERYWHERE... BREAKING BLUETOOTH BY BEING BORED DCFLUX IN: MOON-BOUNCER EXTREME-RANGE RFID TRACKING BUILD YOUR OWN UAV 2.0 - WIRELESS MAYHEM FROM THE HEAVENS!
  3. People will be people, just sit back and let them sort it out themselves or kill each other in the process.
  4. You would probably be better off getting a cheap directional patch antenna as there smaller and have about the same dBi ratings for the price.
  5. Those Open Mesh routers are cheap enough. Nice thing about Linksys slugs and GuruPlus is you can have more than one wireless card. One in monitor mode the other for connecting.
  6. An old Linksys NSLU2 with a USB wireless card or a GuruPlug would do it. Kismet drones via WRT54GL would also work but they tend to cost a lot for really old equipment.
  7. Only thing that pops into my head is Kismet which also has Kismap
  8. There fairly hard to find out side of the US and Canada. With the EU having the restriction of hazardous substances directive means lead-based solder is a big no, no if you want to sell anything.
  9. LM Technologies LM004 are like £10 now and support packet injection.
  10. Well they don't really care how old with you are, the only issue i could see would be getting a hotel room if you don't have a credit card. The casinos tend to not like anyone under 21 but I don't think you would have any issues if you came with an older brother or sister, or parents.
  11. I was reading their forums it looks like RollerCon is on the same time as Defcon so the evenings should be interesting. Also is anyone going to Eth0? http://eth-0.nl/
  12. lol, I've been to Northern Ireland, the only thing they have are some farms and lots of shops and it seems unemployment is quite high, so I can't see how they could support themselves if they were cut off. As for Scotland, well you have farming, some manufacturing (its dieing off everywhere in the western world) and limited oil reserves that are maybe good for another 10 to 20 years. Whales has farming and manufacturing and that's about it. Unemployment and low wages is fairly bad everywhere outside of the south of England and all the money making industries are located in the south. I think areas should be allotted the money they make and let the under preforming parts of the UK die off or make them do better.
  13. This may be me having a bit of a blonde moment but do they still offer you the tools to do everything locally or are they using some proprietary system that builds everything on their servers via a web interface?. Its ARM based so it should be fairly open but I don't like the idea of them getting a copy of any code I were to write.
  14. The Zaurus is a grade A piece of shit, the only issue with the Nokia tablets is they have a flaky USB host mode. Really PCMCIA support really would make a good device as you can have a nice wireless card and DECT sniffing on one device.
  15. I'd just sell it on ebay and get an older ipaq with a dual PCMCIA sleeve and some cheap Chinese replacement batteries with the money.

    Uplink

I use to play it many years ago when I use to do nights, it was a way to pass the time.
  17. Well code is the only thing that counts. I don't have one so I'm not gong to do it myself.
  18. lol, I saw that on hack a day a few days back, its so badly done. There has been countless other wifi gun projects in the last 12 year which don't look like a five year old got set loss with a glue gun.
  19. Triggering something is easy but if you want target tracking that's fairly intensive, you would need something fairly fast. If you want easy, just build a laser trigger and have the gun just pan left to right.
  20. GPS modules spit out serial data and you can get serial based wireless cards, add a DOSonCHIP FAT16/FAT32 module for data logging, a MCU and a handful of other components and you have a fairly small cheapish, easy to put together unit. I would also add a 16x4 lcd to display lock, last hit and such.

    Defensive

I keep it up to date, only run the services I need and wipe it once a month, but I don't run anything very important to me.
  22. Whatever you go with you may want to set up Xplico as its a really slick, good looking way of seeing what people are doing on the network.
  23. You might want to try eBox, if you want something a little more flexible. http://www.ebox-platform.com/
