  1. El Oh El @ narc. "I NEVER NARCED ON NOBODY!!"
  2. LOLOLOLOL!!!! I got got the same way! I saw on some forum someone had said don't go to the same link in my sig, and I did... But it's nice to know I'm not the only one human nature played a nasty trick on.
  3. Even when I use sudo, it says command not found; I just installed it and it isn't working. The SSH command works though.
  4. Really? I was thinking about running US as a LAMP server, I might have to check out FreeBSD now. Its not terrible unsecure. Its just that you dont have full control of what is being installed on your system if you install LAMP as a bundle so inevitably this is where the exploits will be aimed. if you just installed ubuntu server with out LAMP already installed, then install ever thing you want manually, then it should be ok. here is a good guide to setting up US: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_ubuntu_6.06 Well if it's just that if LAMP and its dependencies would be "vulnerable", then I should just be able to update whenever I need to and should be fine.

  6. OMG really? Damn I feel so stupid. W/ my last distro, when I wanted to start it, I had to go /etc/rc.d/rc.sshd start.
  7. I'm trying to install Ubuntu Server on a box I have, but I can't FTP or SSH into it. I know it has SSH, but I don't know the command to start it. Can anyone help?
  8. I think it might be the HD. If running LiveCDs work, but installing and running it off of the HD doesn't, it would only make sense.
  9. I've just recently switched over to Linux (sidebar: w000000t! No more virii!), but when I was running Windows, I used briefcases constantly, to keep my school work synchronized, so I'm wondering if there are any linux alternatives.
  10. As I was doling money out to Verizon, I realized that I was paying for shitty customer service to stay that way. So I entered an equation for the payment. Bad thing is, I don't really know what the equation equalled out to...can anyone help? DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT ME
  11. I'm having a HUGE problem getting my wireless up in Linux. I've gotten the necessary drivers installed and I've configured the inet conf file, but it doesn't want to work! I should have two different wireless devices going: an internal card and an external card. The external card is recognized when I put it in/take it out, but the internal card is not recognized when I flip the swich. Here's my lspci results: 06:05.0 Network Controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection 07:00.0 Network controller: pAirgo Networks Inc AGN100 802.11 a/b/g True MIMO And here's my ndiswrapper: netani driver installed, hardware present The External card is showing up, but not the internal drive, what do I do?
  12. Can you program VLC to start d/l ing a stream @ a certain time, even if you're away? I'm gonna be @ school when the beta show goes on air, and I want to have it ready for me when I get home
  13. It tells me that I can only use 1.23 because 1.24 is broken, but what I want to know is is there any way to find out if it works w/ the latest stable release, 1.35 without installing NDIS 1.35? And if there isn't and I install 1.35 and it doesn't work, how would I go about deleting NDIS 1.35 and install 1.23?
  14. Why would you install GRUB on its own disk? I only use LILO so I don't know about grub, but I would say try installing it to the MBR, if you haven't already.
  15. That all depends on what you want. Want hardware support for every device on this little blue rock? Keep Ubuntu. Want something small for a very old computer? Then you would want DSL. Want to geek out and install everything from source? Gentoo would be for that. Want a nice, Almost-Windows-But-Is-Linux distro? There's Ubuntu, Fedora Core, SuSe, etc. Wanna be uber-geeky and only stay in runlevel 3? I would suggest FreeBSD. So you see, it all depends on what you want.
  16. Is there any way to add your user to the SAMBA client list w/o using the "smbpasswd" command? For some reason, my distro seems to have come without it and I don't know the equivalent. Also, I'm trying to restart SAMBA, but samba restart ain't working for me, even in root.
  17. If you can tell me how I could get it moving. Now I *know* there are tutorials about this on Google. Yes there are and I just found one that I will be implementing later. If everything goes well, I should be reporting the good news in about 2-3 hours from now.
  18. If you can tell me how I could get it moving.
  19. I'm running the Norton firewall on my Windows box, which has never hurt me before, and I'm trying to access the computer on port 22, and I've checked the iptables and it should accept th packets, which is making me thing it's a problem on my windows box.
  20. I'm running Zenwalk, it just says ftp as the server software, I'm running a program called WinSCP3 to FTP into my Linux box, they're both behind the same router, and I'm logging in under my username in the linux box to transfer things.
  21. I'm trying to transfer my files from 192.168.2.2 to a Linux box at 192.168.2.5, but every time I try, it says "Error: Connection Refused". I don't know if it's a problem with my Windows box (side note, the quicker I get my stuff backed up on my Linux box, the quicker I can put linux on my Windows box :) ) I can ping the linux box from my Windows box, but I don't know the command to ping from linux so I can't duplicate it on linux, but they can both access the common router, so they're both on the network. Is there any way to find out where the problem is and fix it (but I do think it's on the Linux side, so let's start from there)?
  22. I'll bet that blacked-out folder is his porn.
  23. If that's all it takes give me the paperrwork and a VPN and I'm set!
