  1. I have just started with wireless network and linux. I tryed loads of distros, but always get back to ubuntu. It's easy to install and it got a great collection of wlan drivers. The tip i can give you, is to install Ubuntu or to download nUbuntu live cd.
  2. I like your look very good. Im a fan of the dark looks of sites. White is like the pro codemasters. Not that Hak5 isn't. But the dark look brings Hak.5 down to the ground. If you understand...
  3. Tryed to install it into the MBR too. but no luck. The reson I use GRUB, is that ubiquity uses it, and ubuntu installation use it. I have tryed to install ubuntu firste, then nubuntu, but that just messes up the GRUB already installed... Setupcon is not able to run...
  4. Thats been tryed. Well, from ubuntu. Might have to try to install it from nubuntu then...
  5. This is how I do it: Boot up live cd Getting my wireless connection up en running by using the: - sudo iwconfig wlan0 ap xx:xx:xx:xx:xx - sudo ifconfig eth0 up - sudo ifconfig wlan0 up Downloading ubiquity with: - sudo apt-get install ubiquity Running: - startx Opening new terminal for running: - sudo ubiquity The app starts and I select the needed config and end up at a summory page where it is a button for typing inn the location for GRUB to be installed. I got a SCSI disk in this laptop, tryed to type /dev/sda, /dev/sda1, /dev/sd0 and loads of things. I even tryed to partition the disk manualy to see what the boot partition is on. Even made a small 20-30Mb disk for GRUB to be installed on to, but it seem to get the same problem every time. It might be that I config the partitions wrong, but that means that ubiquity is also doing the same error as me... Can someone pls tell me what partitions is needed for installing nubuntu. I can handle cfdisk as it is similar to fdisk...
  6. I did a simple forum search on installing nubuntu, but didnt find any. So I ask insted. I got this nubuntu live cd. Yes, I have tryed out what they say on the nubuntu site, but still cant get it installed. I know there is someone on this forum that have installed it. But I cant get it to install GRUB. And it's kinda vital for the installation to complete :) So, my question is: Do you have to partison the disk yourself, of did you just use the defaults? And, one more thing, what did you put in that little button at the "end of configuration" site. That little button that says (hd0) as default... Thanks for reading and answering this topic. And if the answer is out there, pls point me to it.
  7. well, its realtek rtl8111b/8168b gigabit ethernet. Ok, im still a noob at linux, tryed some distros and stuff, but i always get back to ubuntu. There is so many questions i want to ask.... I boot with nubuntu livecd and can connect to internet with wire. but still no news about my wlan device. So, IF i can use the iwlist scanning and get a reading on my router. Will that say that my wlan device is up and running? With this info, can i then connect to my router?
  8. thanks alot for your help :D But, pls continue to post if anyone have something to add.
  9. ah, then im not totaly off the earth. :D I got it :) but i strugle to get it to connect to my router... it detects my wlan device... i really need more experiance with linux :)
  10. Firts of, I don't know if this have been typed before. But Im looking for a very good Linux Distro for Security and Penetration Testing. What is the most used distro for this type of work?
  11. I will get to the point right away. I got myself a laptop the other day. All good with windows XP SP2 and all (got XP on my desktop for gaiming and stuff), but I'm not gonna use it for anything else then learning to use linux. Also for gaining more knowledge about network and how network works. So, here is what i need help with: the laptop detects my wlan unit. But aint letting me connect to my router. Yes, I use a key to protect my nett, but that aint the problem. I cant get that gateway address added to my wlan unit. I need to get online to install nubuntu to my laptop. (Or?) Also, Is there a way to let the laptop to autodetect networks all around? Like Im over at my friend that aint using WEP nor WPA.
  12. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this... Hehe, I got about 7 distro installed in VMware, and even deleted some.... So, you'r not alone :p
  13. I also have a question about this. If I use the "MITM" attack, (the one like in ep3) can anyone track me down, or is it silent so none ever will know?
  14. yes yes, it's easyer to buy stuff, but if i am to use what i have at hand, it has to be tha usb adapter and my phone. I have too look deeper into this. I'll get back to this post whenif i find an answer. :p But for now, thanks for all the help. :D
  15. Yes, thats a possibility. But not that fun :p Im talking to a friend here at the same time im writing here... And i think its better to make a sheshe connetcor for the usb wireless adapter to the usb cabel to the phone... If im going to use the phone that is. :p And make a code in python that reads the. If im not mistaking, the Wireless USB adapter generates signals if there is a nett in the air. So, if one connect a Wireless USB Adapter to the phone, make a python script that listen on the port in the phone. And wham, its a scanner... Or?
