"there not deaf" <- i dont get that anyway, im not a millionare and wouldnt buy a separate card for separate needs. Im talking of buying a regular card for years of usage on desktops and laptops. That kind of excludes the pc card though, because I will need my card to be able to be used on a desktop. I've always assumed that the pc cards had the best reception, I dont know if thats true or not, but thats probably the only reason i put it in the list.

what kind of extension cable do you use? Because I bought a 15 foot one and it doesnt carry enough power to the usb adapter. I researched it and turns out that the wifi usb adapters are power savy and require a special "active usb repeater cable". It looks almost same as a regular male a to female a, except that one end has a a big jack in it, somehow carries all the power needed for usb devices. Guess Ill have to spend more money to get a repeater next time.

yea you're right, it would be too much work for me anyway. I just wish there were usb adapters like the pc cards, that have the slots for external antennas.

but it is totally different from the directv dish because the directv, you just use it for the parabolic shape; you put the usb adapter in the holder and its done. I meant those antennas that look like / the ones that come with new televisions. They have the tv jack and I was wondering if it was possible to get a connector for my MS-156 antenna on my usb adapter to connect it to a tv jack. So that I could just plug my usb into a tv antenna and use it. First main question is if it is possible to find such a converter: ms-156 to (whatever the tv jack is called). And the second question, is if the tv antenna is going to pick up the right signals.

Call me a noob, and you would be right, but it sure does look fine the way i set it up. Maybe the frequencies of the adapter's antenna, which btw, i found out the model of the antenna to be MS-156NB, are different than the cellphones, but they sure do fit right into eachother. I was also thinking of getting a sma cable if this doesnt work out, and soldering the sma onto the chip. I also have a crazy question/idea. What if you take an ordinary antenna that comes standard with a tv that you buy, and you plug that jack into the cable you had mounted onto the usb. Anyway, if both ideas are fucked up then please enlighten me. Thank you. :)

speaking of wifi cracking, whats a good, reliable, quality usb wifi adapter, which is supported with linux out of the box?

I bought a 15' usb extension cable which doesn't work normally. If i plug a usb wifi adapter into it and plug the extension in any usb port other than the one on the back of my case, it doesnt work. If i plug the cable into the motherboard usb ports that are located on the back of my comp, it works. If i plug the extension on any of the 4 usb ports on my laptop, the adapter doesnt work. I noticed though, that if I plug a flash drive in the extension cable, it works, the problem only occurs with the wifi usb adapter. Its the airnet awu108. Please someone help.

can someone just make an "ultimate" zip archive to make this thing work flawlessly?

P.S. Alright I get where you guys are going with this. Dont take me word for word, interpreting that Im going to hack the pentagon, which I wont. Did I make that clear? I WILL NOT HACK THE PENTAGON. Now my question was, if there was a network somewhere in a secluded area without any encryption, and I used it, and obviously left log files behind with my mac address, is there any way that they can trace my mac address to where I am. I mean, im not going to camp under the same tree near the house, its a temporary thing. Now if I go there, use the wifi for a bit, and then go home, will I have left enough information for people to figure out where I live? Whether its fbi or whoever. Just curious if mac address can provide enough info on a person. For the annoying people, I also provide the information that suppose I never provide any personal info using that mac address and leave no records of myself on that laptop

I am looking for a good firewall, which can serve and protect while the user is "afk" and i quoted that because the effect would be the same. Actually the user will be there the whole time, just that the user doesnt need to press accept, or deny or whatever the firewalls ask very often. I know that zonealarm has a game mode feature, which ACCEPTS all the connections, but its completely retarded, might as well turn the firewall off if you are going to allow all connections. I want the opposite. I want the firewall to deny all connections, and when you know that you are running a program that needs internet connection, you simply go to programs list and accept connections for that program. Any suggestions?

I already got the parabolic metal thingy, now I need more info on how to use it best. I understand most of what is needed to be done for a usb adapter, but internal cards for laptops, i dont know about. so, help!

Another thing, before I get myself a new usb adapter, I have been thinking about one of those homemade antennas for a usb adapter. They look very simple yet effecting, in some sites stating that they increase range up to 10 miles! yea, right. Anyway, I took one of those cookware things, the ones you use to run water through pasta, and I just poked around a bit with the usb positioning it every which way in the thing. Nothing different. No new signals, the old signals are detected with the same strength. Maybe Im doing something wrong, or maybe there is something I am not doing at all.
