  1. I'd like to thank every1 4 your replies! Just wanted to mention: I didn't wanna use fat32 cuz of the 4gig limit on files. This being an backup drive I have a lot of files that exceed that size. Also, I didn't wanna use ext3 cuz even though (as you guys said) I can read it on Windows using some sort of plugins this would imply that I need to install/setup them on every machine I connect the disk to, something that is out of the question on several machines as I don't have permission to do that sort of stuff. I was thinking of trying Sparda's solution and "make administrator the owner of the drive and grant everyone rw access" and did just that. Seems crazy enough to work :) jk I found out that the disk had some permissions granted to users that I don't even know, as well as some weird (sakjhfjk23342hkjh) user names and started to think that maybe somewhere along the line of people that used this disk someone had a virus that changed ownership or permissions and stuff... Do you guys think that's possible? And another question, if you guys don't mind. If I backup the files on a different drive and reformat this drive using NTFS (again)... Will it reset all of the ownership settings and return the drive to the ownerless state in which it was b4 all this happened? Thanks again!
  2. I started using a removable 2.5" hard drive as an external drive for several months now, but recently I started having some "problems" with it. Namely, for the past few weeks I started having ownership issues with the disk. Whenever I copy something from one computer, I can't open it on a different one without first having to take ownership of those files or folders. It's not that it's difficult to do, but it's absolutely pointless to always have to do it since the disk is always in my possession. My question is, is there a way to remove this ownership business so that my disk returns to it's previous state where whatever I copy and wherever I copy it from can be accessed wherever I want to without having to do anything special. Also, I would like to know what caused this change to the disk since I have no clue what I did that imposed these ownership rules? I'd like to mention that I did do some google research before posting here but all I managed to find on google were several tutorials on how to take ownership, but none on how to remove the whole ownership deal. Thanks in advance!
  3. I'm in the group for quite a while now, I just haven't played on steam for a while also :)
  4. What an honor! Being on the hak5 front page advertising the coolest t-shirt out there! Thanks Darren, I really feel famous now :P Hope I get to stay another day (until all my friends hear about this ofcourse) :D
  5. Hey Cooper do you see the remote control and the other stuff when you try to view the videos? Or do you just see the background "tv and flower" picture? Because I thought I can't play the videos, and it turned out that I just needed to leave my browser (IE7) to load the page for like 2-3 minutes before all the controls appeared. Just a thought...
  6. Cuz of the fact that you are calling it "this product" VaKo u obviously don't know what I'm talking about. And if u read my 1st post at least twice I'm looking 4 some1 that knows what a HDD Player is, has seen/owned 1 to give me some information on it. And I didn't need some1 who has no idea to tell me of my lack of info. Thanks for the wonderfull ideas that u posted though, I'll tell them to implement that into the next version :P As for info on the gadget itself: It's just like a box that holds HDDs and makes them a portable memory with the difference that this thing has VGA and composite OUT and u can connect it 2 a PC monitor or TV directly and play movies off the HDD inside without the need 4 a PC. There are some that play dvix things or dvd things, or even view pictures. They have (as far as I saw) audio (headphones) connectors and a couple of other IN/OUTs but I didn't quite see what they were. Assuming that this version of the product can: I'm deffinately buying this thing.
  7. I was just hoping for general info on the thing... Nothing speciall concerning the models I saw... Perhaps models that u like or use... ??
  8. K people, I'm little emberresed that I found out about this so late but anyway I thought of asking you 4 your opinions b4 I decide 2 buy the thing. You probably know by the title I’m talking about a HDD Player. I’m in China at the moment so I saw it in a couple of stores yesterday and wanted to ask you all for your opinion on the gadget. Is it worth buying, is the picture and sound quality ok, is there something (model wise) that I should be careful of when buying and stuff like that. It’s really cheap so I’ll get one sure, but there are so many different models that I have to hear some1s opinion b4 I get it. I know it doesn’t have a HDD inside but I have 1 small 2.5” laptop hard disk on disposal so I’ll use that1. The most important thing that bothers me is that the thing is so small that I just can’t understand how the hell they fit all the controllers and stuff needed to read the HDD and translate the data into a video and audio signal… Technology is getting so advanced by the hour… Damn… Ok, so please reply ASAP with any comments or first hand experiences (good or bad) with the gadget so that I can have a piece of mind whether to buy it or not. Thanks.
  9. Ok, so I was thinking about hak5s No1 company Microshaft and thought of buying the domain name so I can have some fun with it. I got in and... It's taken. I msg the webmaster 4 info on the price and guess what. Microshaft is being sold for 5,800 bucks!!! I think hak5 made it popular though ;) Nice work guys. BTW: I'm in China on vacation. The time here is exactly 12 hours ahead of hak5 time. How the hell do u expect me to view the live show in 7AM!!!??!? :D roflmao.. Will certanly try though :D All the best.
  10. I think you're too hard on them. As long they have the BETA in the name they could pretty much release notepad and promote it as a web browser.
  11. Not sure if i found this on their website but have u seen a binary clock? You can see a better looking one on thinkgeek.com i believe. Check it out :D It takes some time to figure out the time but it's the geekiest thing out there :D
  12. I tried the thing also. Personally I can't do anything cuz as soon as I try to enter anything in a text field the broswer crashes. Now I do know my PC needs a fresh reinstall but how come IE and FF don't complain with a fatal errors when I try to search something in google :D
  13. Hey some1 could use a dictionary attack anyway :D Mind as well make it harder and more time consuming :)
  14. It was helpfull. Thanks 2 every1 that replied.
  15. I started practicing this a while back, and I'm not saying it's something unheard of, but I thought I state it here just so maybe someone else thinks it's a good idea and starts doing it. USE LEET SPEAK FOR MAKING UP PASSWORDS. I know that everyone today suggests passphrases as a more secure option, but just in case you want a one word password you should use leet to write it. For example even choosing a password like: "password" and writing it as "p455w0rd" instead, makes it more secure. Think about it :D
  16. Ok, so no1 here will talk about their first computer... Ahem... Well while we're on the subject, my first computer was a ZX Spectrum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX_Spectrum). I started playing with it at age 3-4. The thing was awesome, and the coolest part was that all the programs and games came out on audio cassettes, and you could order them by making a list of what you want and the good guys that worked at ... would "burn" them on a cassette and send you a compilation of all the best things out there :D Anyway, I did use win 95 but I didn't have a PC back then. My first PC had win 98 SE. Oh yeah, I'm 19.8 yrs now so go figure about the age thing :D
  17. Ok just wanted to let u all know that I'm not in ANY position to host my own website. I do have a host that hosts my website. I was just wondering what the procedure is for hosting a website and registering a domain name. I didn't exactly mean that I'm going to host a website tomorrow. Just interested in something like u know.... I decide that I'm going to have a test.com website and what do I do. I find a PC that is online 24/7 and what next? I just wanted to know how hosting companies work and how domain names are assigned. Or is it just something like whoever thinks of a domain name first can register it. The thing that bothers me though is how do u tell the whole world that a certain domain name is already taken if the server that is hosting it is down. For example my test.com goes offline, doesn't that mean that for those 15 minutes of offline time I don't really own that domain name? I don't get it :D Again, think more in terms of how does the whole thing work, rather than how do I host my own website :D Thanks for the reply's so far.
  18. What does some1 need to obtain in order to host websites? How does the whole process go?
  19. Honestly, I've seen more SOTA machines than this one :) However, this is like.... HOMEBREW :D[me=Ethan Hunt]is off to pimp his car also :D[/me]
  20. lol! Believe me I'd like to know the same thing myself. I mean, I'm not puting a gun to any1s head here, but I'd still appreciate if some1 with good excel knowledge looks and my problems and maybe helps with some of them :D BTW I solved 3/5 till now but I used AUX cells and I'm not supposed to have any of those so still working... And please, stop with the jokes and let some1 heeeeelp me :D lol just kidding. Jokes r fine! As u were :D Peace. P.S. I just recieved my hak.5 t-shirt 2day so I'll probably solve all of them in 5 mins now ;)
  21. Yeah, I forgot sorry. There are multiple excel files and each of them has a couple of problems in different sheets. The problems are stated within the sheets themselves so I can't really explain about each of them seperatelly. And another thing... If any1 finds time to solve some... You can e-mail me an attachment at hunt_mk@yahoo.com. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  22. Hey every1. I have a couple of excel problems that I need to solve. They are on: http://weupdatelife.com/Assignments%20Excel.rar . If some1 has the time/will to help me please do so by all means :D I'll update the archive there so it only contains the files that I still haven't solved. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: Finished: Sets 1.xls
  23. Ok, this may be completely n00bish, but could some1 explain it to me what can this code be used for in the "wrong" or right hands? I don't get it. Ok, it kinda passes the digital rights protection thing, but can u explain it to me in more simple terms. I agree that the majority of the people can't actually use this code in any way. I mean, I have it in a notepad file somewhere but it's pointless to me. And if I knew what it actually does, I doubt that I'll actually use it anyways, but I just wanna know. So, any explainations r welcome. Thanks.
  24. Yeah, the best fix would be that. But u c my situation required me to stay in windows, and fdisk doesn't exist in win-xp command prompt as a command. And I had no way of running anything from dos.
  25. Upon some more research I found out the company's web site and decided to give them a try. I downloaded the program and tried it. This time with a readme file :D It is a command prompt based program, very easy to use and it works! GRUB is gone, MBR is fixed (or so they say) and my win-xp booted up :D If any1 has any similar problems the program can be found at: http://www.sysint.no . They have some other programs there too but I don't have the time now... V
