  1. A hacker, are you for real? I thought he was just a journalist. I need to check this shit out.
  2. A couple of things you could try: 1) Reset the router back to default settings. 2) Flush the firmware to the latest version 3) Update Firefox to the latest version 4) Make sure you PC has the latest updates/patches. If the above doesn't work, run wireshark on the background to do troubleshooting.
  3. It could also be that the switch port, that your dorm room is connected to, is configured to allow one MAC address to operate at full duplex only. If it detects another MAC address than the speed will be throttled down. That could explain the situation you are into.
  4. Is QOS turned on, on the router? Perhaps trying playing with that to see if that makes any difference.
  5. I never had any problems with Vmware, with Virtualbox I occasionally have. Plus I own an Alfa adapter and never had any issues with Backtrack being unable to detect it. It always works. Make sure you you have the latest updates installed.
  6. Streaming videos files over the internet, requires a faster upload speed, if the file is awfully large. So you might want to shrink the file size down a bit and try again. Also how old is your hardware in general?
  7. Just adding to what Digip said, if your domain name is ocram6616967.com, your email records will generally be in the following format. mail.ocram6616967.com mx.ocram6616967.com smtp.ocram6616967.com pop3.ocram6616967.com You need to ping each and verify if you can get any respose back. If you don't get any response back, it could mean, they are not setup or haven't been created, in which case, you will need to contact your domain register or ISP to have them created.
  8. WoW, it took you 20:13:10 to crack the key. On my wireless, I also setup the pass-phrase to password, and it only took 3 seconds to find the key. Where did you download the dictionary file from?
  9. Perhaps there was a glitch in the server at the time, when you were trying to access the Hak5 store.
  10. No doubt that Kaspersky is a very good software for combating threats. But you shouldn't rely on a single line of defense. You should always have more than one, to back you up.
  11. You might want to clear your browser cache, if you are having issues. But the correct URL to the Hak5 store, should be http://hakshop.myshopify.com/
  12. Lol, his picture just made me laugh!
  13. There have been many threads on this topic in the past. I would recommend you to read this "Breaking in to Security" survey. It answers if not most of your questions. http://www.digininja.org/projects/breaking_in_part_1.php
  14. You need to go into the boot option, in the System configuration (msconfig), select the OS you want and change the default timeout to 0. But ideally, that's how dual boot works, you select which OS you want to boot first. If you don't want the OS options to appear, get rid of dual booting. And the next time you want to boot another OS, off a usb or cd-rom just press the F8 key on your keyboard and select USB/CD-ROM from the boot menu. That's how I would've done anyway.
  15. For you Nexus phone, I would recommend Avast Mobile Security. http://www.avast.com/free-mobile-security For your PC, I would also recommend Avast, plus SpyBot and MalwareByte. That should keep you safe.
  16. Unless you go with the "Advanced Firewall & UTM Appliances", the Express 3 has limited features. But it still a very good OS firewall. http://www.smoothwall.org/about/feature-comparison-chart/
  17. You are actually on the right track, and everyone who starts into the hacking field should have some prior knowledge of a programming language. Secondly, I would recommend a networking course such as Network+ or CCNA, this will give you an understanding of the fundamentals of what protocols, IP addressing, subnetting and the general configuration of a switch and router are. Then once you are more advanced, you could dive into Virtualization, server installation and configuration, and network and wireless security. And most importanly, always practice what you learn.
  18. You got a very nice selection of music there. Even though, I listen to them, I rather listen to the heavy shit.
  19. That's how I used to access my virtual servers, before I went and purchased a domain, I hated having to remember my IP, everytime it changed.
  20. With no doubt the article is very interesting, but they don't mention how the malware infects the device itself. I am mean, how does it propagate? Is there any user interaction required? Does it exploit known security flaws within the operating system itself. The article is not very clear in this aspect.
  21. Well, most if not all exploits will be detected by antvirus. The only way to make them undetected is using the built in Metasploit enconders. Shinatakagai, if that's how it's spelt is one of the recommended enconders within Metasploit framework to use. Sometimes, you will notice that encoding the payload once, will not do the trick, you have to encode it multiple times, in order to achieve a good undetected rate.
  22. A good idea in deed, but what if he doesn't use the Windows 7 machine, for accessing his online accounts, and instead use his iMac? How is this going to work out?
  23. There are certain websites that are programmed to explicitly use HTTPS only. If the connection is somehow reverted to HTTP, the server will either terminate the connection or refuse to work on HTTP. This could explain why, SSLstrip in your case is failing to log any logins and passwords. On the other hand, there are websites, that even though they use HTTP(s), they could still use HTTP, and that's where in certain situations SSLstrip is able to log the logins and passwords for you.
  24. That's strange may be a bug in the software.
