  1. That's strange, when I was setting up Win7 it asked me to set up a homegroup, but I clicked "skip" or "cancel" cannot remember which, but all I have shared now is ADMIN$, C$ and IPC$. *shrugs* I'll check on my W7 machine at home and see if there is anything shared.

I've found it easier to either blank the password or just crack it with Ophcrack. I've had both of those work for me on XP, Vista and 7. EDIT: You can use TrueCrypt for full disk encryption.
  3. Definitely. As much as I love Nvidia.. I don't think I'll ever need that much horsepower. If I ever day, I'll probably be going with an ATI (almost as good for a lot less). I am a bit amused by the heatsink looking kinda like a grill...
  4. If the parabolic dish is working, why change the wireless card?
  5. Yup. Most regular NICs are supported. It's just the wireless ones that have some problems.
  6. I think it is fine as it is.. the only difference maybe is put "Windows" or "Linux" in the thread title. I don't know if it would make a huge difference when searching, but it might help "sort" the different threads by OS.
  7. Thanks for the info. I tried running ICS on my netbook (sharing the wireless connection) and hooking the pineapple up to the the ethernet port (with a straight-thru cable), but I'm obviously doing something wrong, since it's not working. I am really new to ICS since I've always used a router + switch to share my internet connection. I shall be doing some searching in the forum and see if I can find any more info on getting up ISC on Windows. If I was going to do this on Linux, I would probably just set up a NAT and have it forward to the wireless interface, which sounds so much easier.
  8. I'll play around with it with my laptop and see what happens. I'll let you know if I get anywhere.
  9. Thanks! I'm still playing around with it and trying to figure it out.. watching some of the older Hak5 episodes too. If the case is that you want it to hook up to a laptop, then use ICS to share the laptop's internet connection, I think that would work (Darren used a cell phone in Episode 4x12). I wanted to hook it up to an internal network (probably shared via laptop) but I need to figure out how to set it up. I'll take a look at your thread.
  10. Do you need to connect it to a laptop (for example) or would it work if connected directly to a network? I just got one today, and I am playing around with it.. seems to be a pretty nifty bugger, that's for sure. The only problem I am running into is that it is allowing the DHCP server on my network give out IP addresses instead of giving them out itself. Not sure if I've got it hooked up correctly or not. It's set for Bridged mode atm, which is probably the problem. Internet Network --- Switch --- Pineapple --- wifi to clients Any ideas? EDIT: If I disconnect it from the internal network, it gives out addresses fine (after a power cycle).. I guess my DHCP server is too quick for it.
  11. Nice find. The only downside is that it only works on the current workgroup/domain unless you specify otherwise. I wonder how that would work if someone is in a different workgroup, since they wouldn't show up by default and you cannot exactly play "guess the name of the workgroup" that a rogue machine might be using. You could probably run a network scanner to list the machines on the network as well. I know I use NetScan for simple scanning, since it runs off of USB, but it is no where near as good as Nmap.
  12. Awesome! Learning is always good. :D
  13. What OS are you using? I can change the adapter properties even if it's not connected in XP, Vista and 7.
  14. Wow 500 bucks for an a/b/g and 700 bucks for a a/b/g/n. Cripes! I'll stick with my Alfa.
  15. You wouldn't need to flash the netbook's bios at all. A for the blank screen, I'm guessing that it is looking for an MBR on the SD card, which probably doesn't have one. Does it boot up fine with nothing attached?
  16. The thread with 400 something replies doesn't help?

Something like this: 17242ABEA732EB8289DBE4F172C1092BEDE53BE9640E0B6640211AF5E9ECED0F Won't be in a dictionary list. Meaning you won't be able to bruteforce it using a Dictionary attack.
  18. Chripes, that's tiny. Not much storage space tho.. that's almost more expensive then my Asus 1005HA
  19. D'oh! I wonder why I was thinking that it was just the encryption key.. maybe since all you need is the "passphrase" or key to access the network. *shrugs*
  20. Outside of that, of course. I would recommend a router that can be flashed with DD-WRT.
  21. If you cannot swap the antennas there isn't much you can do.
  22. The "passphrase" is the encryption key that your network is using, so you are correct.
  23. If you have access to the AP, you can usually tell who is connected to it from there.
