  1. This would probably answer it better than I can. Note: If you are using RDP, you need to pick a different source port than 3389, if you are going off a Windows box.
  2. What issues are you running into? Why not just use Putty?
  3. Pentium Dual-Core here with 4GB of RAM on an Gigabyte Mobo.
  4. I'd just use imgburn personally. I've tried CDBurnerXP, but it wouldn't work with one of my sata drives.
  5. For the most part, open box stuff was just returned and newegg resells it after testing it to make sure it works correctly. I prefer new stuff tho. :)
  6. I think it needs a high speed internet connection, but I could be wrong.
  7. SSH tunnel would work, I wouldn't ever expose RDP or VNC to the internet. If you don't have the ability to set up an SSH tunnel, maybe look into something like TeamViewer and have it running in the background.
  8. Thanks guys. I think I'll be using TeamViewer. :)
  9. I was debating on installing it and letting it run in the background after whitelisting my main desktop PC and netbook (and blacklisting everyone else), and setting a complex password. I guess the thing I am worried about is that it'll leave a port open (or so nmap says that port is open when I run a scan on a test pc)
  10. Why not use <div> tags instead of <p> tags? That way you can set it for centered in CSS.
  11. Personal use, so I don't really want to buy anything if I can accomplish my goal without spending money. :P I'll be supporting a friend of mine who lives around 300 miles away and as far as I know the machine is directly connected to the internet. I was messing around with TeamViewer and it looks like I can blacklist/whitelist clients as well as set a rather long password. That seems to make it a bit more secure, since I could allow only my machine access and deny everything else. I'll be connecting from either my desktop or my netbook.
  12. I'm trying to find something that is easier to use than Microsoft's "Remote Assistance" software. I was playing around with TeamViewer the other day, which seems to work fairly well. Unfortunately I don't know how secure it would be if used on a machine connected directly to the internet. Any other suggestions?

    Konboot

I can confirm it, yes. It's even got instructions to install it on USB.
  14. Are you sure the password isn't "12345" ?? *hides*
  15. Why not ask yer parents to allow more than 2 hours on the computer, instead of going behind their backs.
  16. Got it, beat it and now I am messing around trying to finish the bonus maps.
  17. Get an EEEPC. My 1005HA works perfectly in BT4.
  18. Nice project. :) I wouldn't have a use for one, since I have my own.

Win7 Home Premium is 100 bucks, Pro is around 140. (I like Pro/Ultimate myself, but Home Premium is fine for most home users - aka non-geeks)

That would be the best course of action. :)

Yeah, it was a rhetorical question. :P Just something to think about whenever someone says "fuck microsoft" etc. Good point. Haven't had that happen, outside of forgetting to activate an eval copy of Server 2008 after the 10 day "grace period." You just get nagged every time the machine boots as well as reduced functionality. That's enuff for me to just buy a copy for each machine, that way I can prove that I have a licensed copy. I'm sure there are companies that do the same with their Technet or MSDN stuff. Then again, I've seen companies testing software on the same machines for years, so I guess it is a bit of a gray area.

Would reusing a key (multiple times on different machines) and breaking the license agreement be considered pirating? I've bought OEM licenses for all the machines I have at home (minus a dell, which came preinstalled with XP). I'd rather pay a bit of money up front then deal with a shitstorm if it ever came to that.
  23. I added the entries manually, since I couldn't figure out how to get the damned thing to use dynamic DNS. I did disable recursive lookups, and added my ISP's DNS servers to the DHCP scope. I don't know if that will make is any more secure tho.
  24. I set it up as a local DNS server that isn't accessible from the internet (it's behind my router's firewall and an iptables firewall on the server itself). I just want to make sure that it is as secure as possible, even tho I doubt it would be compromised. Any suggestions for securing this server, or where to start?
