  1. Any of you guys using OpenManage 6.3.0? I'm getting an error "login failed... internal error" no matter what or how I try to login. Locally, remotely doesn't seem to matter. I'm running this on a PowerEdge 1750 running Sever 2008 Enterprise SP2. I see numerous people having the same problem searching google, but the majority of them seem to be running ESXi. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/software/svradmin/6.3/en/UG/HTML/using.htm#wp1078452 This is the most useful info I've found so far, but it doesn't mention a fix for the error I'm having. However I see this in the link provided authType=ntlm&application=[plugin name] but I'm not sure where to "set" this setting.
  2. Damn... I was hoping there would be some kind of plug n play adapter available. I mentioned this as a suggestion in another thread I think related to security camera's and if I remember it was started by Darren or he added some sort of input and he mentioned he had done something like this before. I wonder how he did it, if he used a laptop webcam that is. My reason for going this route is, it's very tiny, 1.3MP, the laptop is useless and free.
  3. Hey guys, I have a hp tablet laptop that I'm wanting to take the webcam out and use it as a motion detection cam. The wire running to it looks kinda like a internal speaker/cpu fan type connection. I'm wondering how can I interface this via usb to another pc? Is there such an adapter or a better way? Thanks.
  4. Yea giving out a username and pass or passphrase would be a hassle. Some places have an open ap, but secured with a portal service running that allow you to connect and create your own account before accessing the internet and I believe arp poisoning is prevented due to a VLAN somewhere in their setup. I've been to a gas station that was setup like this and I think starbucks is setup like this.
  5. Thanks again digip. Yea I found that PatronSoft FirstSpot the other night and it would work perfectly based of it's listed features. Would be nice if there were a general use edition for free though. I also found zeroshell and downloaded it last night that seems like it will suit my needs. I was just getting ready to toy with it just now :) I also see alot of SonicWall AP's in hospital's larger businesses, etc. was thinking of purchasing one to toy with.
  6. @ Infiltrator, Yes I'm looking for a good captive portal. I run Untangle at home currently and love it. Problem is that Untangle require's administration of manually adding user accounts. I need a portal that user's are redirected to and has the ability to create their own account OR if there is a portal that exist where multiple user's can use the same account that will work also. @ ParMan, I thought about doing the whole 2 router setup. I use to have a guest ap setup like that a few years ago at home which worked great. @ digip, I'm right there with you when it comes to wireless in a production environment. Security is always at risk, or shall I say more at risk. I was going to leave it unsecured so any client could connect, but supposedly there was a near by user abusing the service already. The particular router they had didn't have any restrictions as far as time of day, etc. or I would have disabled the connection an hour after business closed. These portal software's all look pretty good I'm sure there are many here that will suit my own personal needs as well as this business. Any of you guys used any or recommend one vs another? My main issue is which ever solution I choose the portal needs to be able to create user accounts without having an administrator manually adding the account. Thanks for all the replies guys. As I said I have been looking at doing this at home for sometime just for learning purposes.
  7. Security and reliable access is why it can't be left open. This Mikrotik looks very good, I found a few other solutions also. http://www.patronsoft.com/firstspot/online_demo.html http://www.guestgate.com/
  8. Curious to know what you guys think or might suggest. I setup a small breakfast diner's wireless network today, just a basic setup. They had a cable modem and netgear wireless router secured with wpa-wpa2 tkip/aes. They offer their customer's free wifi service meaning they have to give their customer's the passphrase to access the internet. Now I can think of ways to setup a radius server so they can authenticate with a username and pass, the only issue with that is as far as I know every customer would have to be manually added meaning they would need an administrator. I'm wondering if there is a service that will run on a router/server something similar to starbucks where the user's are prompted with authentication page to create their own accounts then are allowed access to the internet? I've searched for this before quite a few times, but I'm not a developer and wouldn't know where to get started to develop something such as this. If it were YOU setting up this business how would you guys do it? ANY advice is greatly appreciated.
  9. Yea I tried with 2k3 in a VM and had the same issue, but it was all because of using localhost and the hostname instead of the ip.
  10. I got it, did a little more digging and found a solution here for anyone interested. http://sourceforge.net/projects/openvpn-als/forums/forum/824507/topic/3136290?message=6950901 Apparently, it doesn't like "localhost" as the DC hostname it likes it's IP better. :)
  11. I didn't watch the ep again yet, but I think Darren used the built in database for user accounts when he did it. As far as creating an account it doesn't give the option to do so until after that part of the setup it seems. googling for some other forums relating to Adito hasn't turned up much of anything helpful. Seems most people installed using the built in db as well.
  12. Ok I'll give that a try later this evening. I'll have to re-watch that ep probably. Thanks
  13. Has anybody successfully installed Adito OpenVPN-als with server 2k8 AD? I'm stuck where it asks for Domain Service Account & Password. I guess I'm not sure what exactly I need here. I've tried all my user accounts, Local System, Local Service, Network Service, etc. it doesn't like a space in the name either.
  14. Yea searching for a solution I ran across a blog I believe on lifehacker which is where I found Virtual Router. They mentioned connectify, but also stated that Virtual Router was a bit faster and easier to play with. I just now finished testing it on this laptop running windows 7 ultimate 32-bit and it works great I must say. I downloaded connectify also I might play with it too just to do so.
  15. Found this and I searched the forums a bit and didn't see it mentioned, figured it's a good app to mention. http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/ I was looking for a way to share my internet connection on my laptop wirelessly with another wirelessly pc and I've heard it's possible with "HomeGroup", but being on a domain those options are not avail. I even left the domain and still didn't see an option in HomeGroup, but then again I haven't ever used HomeGroup.

    Ipv6 Tunneling

It was episode 5x12 and the tool was called rinetd. I need to watch this ep again myself.

What about port binding? (I think that's what it's called) I remember and episode I believe it was season 6, where Darren used a nifty tool to establish a connection outbound on a default port and the receiving box accepted the connection on a random or custom set port. If I remember right he made and ssh or telnet connection outbound on 80 and accepted on 22.
  18. I'm looking to setup a "guest" AP and been looking at possibly using Untangle or PFSense. My question is, I know I can set usernames and passwords locally. What I want to do is like say you goto a coffee shop and their running a wifi service you have to create your own account. How can I setup a captive portal where the user's will have to create their own accounts?
  19. hmmm... yea that's pretty much the case. I don't have any problems internally. This may be a dumb ? but why is that? Why is streaming audio over the internet from your average home user not an issue, but video is? File size, encoding, both? Is it just impossible no matter the connection to the internet?
  20. I'd like to hear suggestions on a good media server app that streams video smoothly. I've tried Tversity and a few other's I'm looking for one that I could set multiple user accounts. I was really liking Jinzora, but support wasn't the greatest for streaming on windows.
  21. Thanks for the insight VaKo, I really want to get into Virtualization. I use VMWare workstation 6.5 frequently, but would like to experience using it as the host OS. Yea I got about 3GB or ram on the 2600, but am in the process of getting a more up to date server.
  22. Thanks digip and VaKo, vSphere seems to be exactly what I need. I have a PowerEdge 2500 and a 2600... seems I need to do a few upgrades or get a better server to run this. big thanks for the hardware compatibility list. It seems as if most companies are leaning toward virtualization these days so I figured I'd try to run a few VM's natively with VMWare as the host OS. A side note, what I mainly trying to achieve with this is running server 2k3 in a VM along with a few other's of course, but mainly for a mail server for my own personal e-mail accounts. I recently had a bad experience and one of my e-mail accounts got "deleted" somehow and so now I would like to run a mail server using outlook or if there is anything better in a VM somehow to download my e-mails every say 15 minutes and if the server crashed I could just use some sort of data recovery to copy the VM and then use it again... right? That being said that opens up a few more ?'s. Say I run this on my PowerEdge 2500 and it has 6 SCSI disks... I'm running in forgive me for my lack of remembering the specifics of all raid variants, but say I'm running the version of raid that see's all disks as 1 Disk and the server crashes. Would it still be possible to back up the VM?
  23. I'm trying to virtualize a few VM's and I would like to make VMWare the host OS, but I'm a bit confused on what version of VMWare I need and how to go about installing it as the host OS. Is it esxi and is it just a bootable .iso install?
  24. Something I found interesting just now running PAW Web Server on my EVO 4G and once you log into the web interface your greeted with quite a few options as well as phone logs. The thing I found most interesting is it will enable you to use PAW as a HTTP/HTTPS proxy... :) I just tested and it works. I wonder if it might be possible to ad-hocly connect to the wifi or over bluetooth and somehow "teather" via PAW's proxy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you don't pay extra for the app that let's you connect upto 8 devices and if you teather with just a rooted driod using the wifi teather app or any other app "misc" data usage charges will apply?
