  1. I have taken the easier (and cheaper as they were selling them off as end of line at John Lewis for £99 (I have just checked they are back in at the normal price :( ) ) route, The: Spykee Meccano Robot I have added two arduinos, one of which moves the camera head around more comprehensively similar to This There is already a large community of hackers & modders for this to take out the grunt & guess work. And some great suppliers of addon components. :D
  2. So thats why Windows acts like a c*nt, good to know there is a fix for it!
  3. I use FreeCap to great effect portable from my UFD. Once I establish my portable SSLvpn tunnel back to home with the Free Barracuda running on an NLSU2 with debian flashed on to it as per These instructions. I just fire up FreeCap with its sock settings to the standard localhost:1080 and add apps to the window. Most ports the app will use are redirected via FreeCap through 1080 through the tunnel then on my home server out through a proxy like cproxy. Apps that work are Filezilla(portable) and IM(portable clients. Skype(portable) dont work as it tries too many cleaver tricks of its own to tunnel out of LANs. This setup can tunnel out of all corporate & skool networks I have come across. -All Free Apps! and the NSLU2 cost me 35£ on ebay.
  4. Wifi is Bi-directional (Tx & Rx ) and an increase in Tx Power will by definition only increase the Tx range whereas antenna gain will increase both the TX EIRP and the Rx sensitivity (though you are always trading off something ie directionality and acceptance). Therefore I would say the former (especially as you probably want directionality to "target").
  5. If the patterning is intermittent it is probably interference, and most likely mains borne. In which case a fairly cheap low-pass filter should sort it out. NB. this is not a transient suppression filter, some mains conditioners are simply that, so check it out (the filtering is normally achieved by opposing coils of the live and neutral mains around a ferrite core.
  6. Also has anyone tried this method of escalation to SYSTEM? Windows-hole-discovered-after-17-years I will give it a try when I get time (probably in about 3 weeks!)
  7. You need to put a proxy agent on your machine at home ( e.g.ccproxy) This will take stuff from your socks port(1080) and spit it out of the relevent port to the interwebz.
  8. If your routers firewall will allow you to forward ports to the broadcast address of your LANs subnet (My Edimax router will but most modern routers wont because its a bit of a security risk). Then you can use one of the remotewakeup web servers such as: http://www.remotewakeup.com/en/index.php
  9. Thats fine to use non polarised caps for polarised, (Just not the other way arround). -All other things being equal of course (Capacitance and voltage rating) Only problem is main reason for using polarised is they are easyer to produce for large capacitance levels (different physical principal is used, eg electrolytics).
  10. There is also a portable version of imgburn: ImgBurn for (the) Win
  11. I think you answered your own question: http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=keyfiles & http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/?s=hidden-os i.e. create a truecrypt rescue volume on a bootable USB to boot a whole-disk encrypted system volume. But this is so obvious I'm sure there is something special you want to happen- DYW absolutly no boot at all rather than just disk restricted access with a keyfile on a USB?
  12. The Ferrite bead works by increasing the serial inductance of the wire to effectively low-pass filter out hf (RF) so a large enough bead will knacker gigabit ethernet cable. The twists help with common mode rejection but also depend on the quality of the differential input electronics of the interface. nuff said.
