I am using http://routhost.com/ and they're the best... of course not the TB transfer as Dreamhost suggested, but their support is great, usually 30mn after you submit your ticket! I have used Dreamhost and left them because of the poor quality of the service; but this is my personal opinion.. For your website, you might wanna buy a template made online if you can't make one yourself... usually around 50$. good luck

cooper
It looks like it's very wasteful with space. - The enitre top bar serves no purpose at all. - The options in the menu in the banner beneath it I would like to see having less room in their box. - The "SearchWeb" option looks bad because the text between the message "Enter search" and the input field is so large, yet the space between the input field and the Search button is litereally zero. I personally also don't like that that search buttom is aligned to the right, especially since it causes it to be placed beyond the end of the input field. - There's an indentation for the "Official Sponsors" bit that messes up the layout. - The server list thingamajig looks aligned to the right, which looks bad. - The text "Welcome to THE NEW HAROLDSEARCHNETWORKS!" should be replaced by a blue bar of identical dimensions as what separates the posts. - The flash chatbox has a white background, yet you placed it in a box with a gray background. It looks bad. And finally I felt it took MUCH too long for the page to load. That server list thing in particular took quite a while. hsncorrosion
In the chatbox the background is white. I have the hexcode for the backgroud of the site. How do I convert it to a color code like #FFFFF so that I can change the chatbox background to match?

VaKo
Technically you seem to have a fair bit to learn here: http://www.cssbasics.com/ This was the best one i found for newibes. - http://alistapart.com/ Slightly more advanced, but if you use your head and reverse enginer things a bit you can learn a lot from here. - http://www.csscreator.com/version2/pagelayout.php Good for learning about layouts with CSS. - http://www.digg.com/design Just another great resource for tips, new ideas and problem solving. If you have a problem, or an idea have a look here first. - http://www.csszengarden.com/ Its just cool... - www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html Very good text editor for css/xhtml work. - http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html run your own webserver on your LAN for dev work And please, if no one has replied to your last post, you can just click the edit button and add more text to your last post. This avoids double posting which tends to piss people off.

VaKo
No worries. I think the most important bit of advice you need to hear is this: DO NOT USE TEMPLATES, A CMS OR WYSIWYG HTML EDITORS IF YOU ARE NEW TO WEB DESIGN. I spent the best part of a year getting no where by making that mistake. What actually taught me how to do it was junking all my prior efforts and started from the most basic point I could find. HTML and Notepad2. Sure, looked like crap, but after 4 months I was happily using PHP, MySQL javascript, flash, XHTML and CSS, the site looked mint, it was all valid code, worked on pretty much everything I tried it on and google loved it. And I was still doing everything by hand in Notepad2. Plus, I could look at any given line of code and know exactly what it did. So, given what you've posted here, try doing that. Also, Joomla/Mambo is a POS imo. I have to deal with at least 5 people a week who have had there sites disabled due to Joomla exploits. You have to hack it so bad to make it work, and ultimately most sites using Joomla look exactly like there using Joomla.

hsncorrosion
Thanks for all the help. My school has a website that I think needs some help as well. The computer teacher (and I) re-built the crappy site and He has no web experience prior to this year. What can me and him do about it? Here is a link to the site (using frames) http://www.grand-valley.k12.oh.us/
