wigit Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Just got my MKIV today and like the noob I apparently am, I managed to get the same typo in my password twice. Is there any way to reset the password without breaking up the case and logging in via serial console? If not, is there a somewhat safe way to open the enclosure without breaking it? Are there screws underneath the rubber "feet" or something? Thanks in advance Quote
Dazzle Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Don't think there's a way to reset it without Serial, because I read something about the reset button not working properly. To open your MK IV just take off the 2 feet on the side of the USB port, unscrew those 2 screws and then it kinda pivots on the other end Good luck, Dazzle Quote
wigit Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 Thanks for the swift reply. Now I'll just have to hack togheter something for the serial. Good thing I didn't have any plans this friday :) Quote
inTheDMZ Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 before you begin your serial flash i would read both: http://forums.hak5.org/index.php?showtopic=26726 and http://forums.hak5.org/index.php?showtopic=26710 and i personally would recommend getting this USB-UART adaptor: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271002070271 and do not plug in the vcc cable on the serial connector, only use the 12v power (i.e you only need to connect rx/tx/gnd) Quote
wigit Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 I already have one of these, so I figured I'd give it a try first. Was going to use VCC from another source (with 3.3V), but I'll go ahead and drop VCC there and use the onboard power as you suggested. Quote
Mr-Protocol Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 There is a way to get OpenWRT into a "Recovery" mode without using a serial cable. View the OpenWRT site for more information. Quote
inTheDMZ Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 @Mr protocol I think it might be openwrt 'failsafe' mode but I don't know much else about other then its something to do with the reset button and it doesn't work with every router. Quote
wigit Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 (edited) I ended up just booting it with a serial connection and changing the password from there. It proved to be much easier than I feared at first. 5 minutes of digging through a couple of drawers for some hardware, and two minutes of rigging a temporary thing where I didn't have to damage any connectors, etc. Edited June 22, 2012 by wigit Quote
inTheDMZ Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 That's good news, maybe that can be added to the wiki? Quote
wigit Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 Reset button resets password That didn't work for me. I tried various combinations and durations of pressing the reset button without luck. My pineapple shipped with 2.1.0 - could it have been added in a later revision? Quote
Sebkinne Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 The reset button duration is 8-10s. There are no others. But you are right, it was added in 2.2.0 I think. I'm sorry :( We should make sure that the first thing people do is upgrade.. Either way, the only option I can think of is a serial board. Sorry! Best, Sebkinne Quote

As I mentioned in a previous post, it was easy enough when I had found all the needed hardware. Quote
