DingleBerries Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 There is a new error affecting systems that may be based on a number of components failing, over heating in most cases. The error message is said to be a general hardware malfunction, error code E74. What is there fix for this situation? "Have you tried turning it off and on again?". This week Microsoft stated that some errors may fall within the extended warranty period. If you are seeing this error call or email Microsoft support as soon as possible. webjockey Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Its a shame that the Xbox has this many errors, because otherwise its a good console. Microsoft is handling it well though, its unlikely they will be losing many customers through this: they are offering free repairs. Quote
DingleBerries Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 I personally love the 360, and its games. At least they are doing the proper thing by "trying" to replace the defective consoles. You live and learn. Quote
SpikeCB Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Like Webjockey said, Microsoft is owning up to the error. Although it did take them a short time to do that. What keeps me loyal to the Xbox is Xbox live. Without it I would buy all my games for the PS3. Quote
digip Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Im still clinging to my original xbox. I have like 20 games for it and never really have that much tiem to play it anymore, but if I was going to upgrade, 360 would be the path, just to keep the older games I still have and because I hate the PS line, their controllers, and most of their games. Never owned a PS, and dont' plan on it either. The only PS games I ever really liked were the cross platforms ones, which I could just play on my xbox anyway. A wii would be nice, but I gave up on Nintendo after the N64. SNES was my favorite and the original gameboy. I bought a DS-lite for my daughter, but the games are about her level anyway. She's 3. About the only thing I would want a DS for is hacks, mods and emulators for older games. Is there any news of a new XBOX. Maybe one that overcomes all these hardware problems. That has been one reason I haven't upgraded to the 360 is because of all the hardware problems. My original xbox is like 8 years old and I never had one problem with it. I have been wanting to make it into an xbmc or boxee type deal, but didn't want to risk losing any funtionality or bricking the device. If I hade a 360, I would probably try somethign like that on the older one, put emulators and such on there, etc. Quote
tactix Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 the new jasper board has a smaller nm gpu that is supposed to address the issues of rrod and e74 Quote

fireboys Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 the new jasper board has a smaller nm gpu that is supposed to address the issues of rrod and e74 I do tech work on the video games systems, And I have to say the new chips are great, but I alrdy have seen 2 come back on the rrod so it is not 99.99% fixed yet... they just need to find a better way of making them... or just make the new 720 and come out soon, and that would fix all the little red lights problems...
