  1. How does a third party Anti-virus help?
  2. Don't know if anyone remembers these, but this http://oldcomputers.net/aquarius.html was one of the first things we had that was considered a "computer" in our house. We mainly played games on it, but it could do some basic programming and came with a manual to teach you basic programming. Nothing special, but it was a start. I think I may still have it somewhere in my mothers attic or basement.
  3. Mine came from looking at all those Compact Disc logos on all my cds and such. I then started some art work (http://www.twistedpairrecords.com/images/digip.jpg) to mimic the logo for things I was working on at the time, and decided that it made perfect sense since I created the digital pirate logo, it was a part of me. No, I do not walk around screaming "Arghh..." like a pirate, but maybe an eye patch and a parot on the shoulder would look pretty cool. (J/K)
  4. Before I get started, I just want to say, this is not a flame or bash against your video. Just some help I want to offer. Ok. Few critiques. My opinion Video : 2 out of 5 Audio : 1.5 out of 5 You can improve this with the following: 1- Invest in a seperate microphone from the cameras,(a cheap $20 radio shack will do fine) and get either a pop filter or foam cover for the mic. An audio compressor and noise filter(or use a software one through your pc) to improve your audio volume, and maybe a mixer for eq. TOne down the highes and lows, and leave a nice warm mid for voices. The highs and lows will pop the mic and give you that loud hiss your hearing in your video. Compressing the audio feed ahead of time is kind of like normalizing the aduio, but not having to do it so much in post production, which is hard when using windows movie maker, as you would need the audio feed seperate from the video and editied in an audio program like sound forge or cool edit, etc. 2- Enlist one of your friends to do the camera work for you, or buy a tripod/monopod setup as this would cut down on the jerky movments and loud crashes into the microphone on the camera(hence the seperate mic) 3- Take a few practice runs, or even write down what your going to say. Outline your work so you know what to say before hand and speak clearly. I had a hard time understanding a lot of what you were saying, but I think part of it was the volume levels and you were going a little fast in some parts. 4- Try CamTasia. It will help with the screen captures and also has a nice easy to use built in editor similar to Movie Maker, but with some other screen overlays and effects. It also lets you save them as Flash videos with High Quality so you could put it right up on your site for people to watch. Always a plus because you control the quality of the video, as where google controls the conversion and such, you can get much higher quality with CamTasia's flash output. It scripts it all and makes the HTML form you, so all you do is upload the folder of output and post the link to the video page. 5- Lighting. One or two lamps on the floor (below you, without the shades on them) and one overhead will make a world of difference. Its easier to see when the camera isnt trying to compensate for the white balance each time you move the camera. I hope you take these comments as help and not offensive. This is constructive criticism, and I am not a bashing your work. If your serious about doing more videos, I hope these ideas will help improve your work and we can all see what you put out next. Take care.
  5. For some reason the link you provided, the video would not play for me, but I did a keyword search for your name and was able to find it. Downloading the avi now because googles streaming seems a bit jumbled. Maybe the avi will play smoother from my desktop. The Sony Erricson reference I was talking about was the Cell used to take your profile pic. (K750i) Sweet phone. I don't think it is for sale here in the U.S...
  6. neochivers, the video link did not work for me... Is that a sony/erricson your using? Did notice that your domain(s) have been blacklisted a few times for phishing scams on eBay and as fake Bank portals though...very interesting...Why the redirects through Russia?
  7. Sounds kind of crazy, but dcc in irc (mirc) gets the job done for me. Only, you would have to sign onto an irc server then fserve to your friends, but since your on the same lan, it goes QUICKLY. I use it with my wifes computer sometimes when were sharing large files, and it can do a resume, so that is allways a plus(depending on the version of Mirc your running). Got 100's of files. zip or rar them and send it all at once. Your only connecting to IRC to get the DCC function to your frinds "Nick", but you can use direct connect to in other situations as well, like when windows file sharing isint an option on your lan. If some of you are on Ma or Linux, then just get the equivalent to Mirc on that OS and do the same. Its really fast and it doesnt run through any shared servers(p2p/internet/torrent tracker, etc) or outside of the local lan. there are lots of other ways, but sometimes the easiest way is just through something an "IM" client or chat client that allows file sharing.
  8. You could always go with that new "dorito" chip I have been hearing about...
  9. Even with classic mode enabled it still uses some fo the new toolbar and menus from Vista. It can be a little confusing with the new look and feel, but if you use several different flavors of Linux and their themes then you will get used to it pretty quickly. I am using the Business version in VMWare, so don't get all the fancy flip 3d and no sound drivers, but it's good for trying to break things and see whats going on. One thing that is a pain is the 30 day registration notice and the KMS posting every 180 days. I have gotten the 30 day countdown to stop counting down by turing off Defender and all non essential services, as well as setting the BIOS and OS date to January 2000. It has said 28 days left to register for about 2 months now. (It is the final version of Vista, Business Edition, not a Beta). I have also set the KMS server to not go to Microsoft but to a different server, so even if it wants to it doesn't call home for the registration. Personally, I don't like Vista. Bloat and the need for such hardware upgrade, I'd rather set XP up with all that powerfull hardware. Vista is still too early tosee what is going to happen, and tons of hacks are coming out for it. The newest one, send a user an mp3 or audio link to a song, but only have it send "voice commands" to Vista's voice recognition, and you can own the box by making it turn off services, and starting other things like command prompt batch commands, etc. For anyone using it currently, disable voice response and any agent programs running, as well as 99% of the Task Scheduler programs. Also, most services turned off is XP tweaks will need to go a bit further with Vista. There a lot more things to turn off on day one to get the best performance and speed from Vista. And if you have it on (Speed boost, etc) then you might as well plug in some flash drives or sd cards to get that extra memory speed, otherwise turn the services off. Most services will not be needed for the average user (I know, not many of you are the "average" user, so please, no flames).
  10. Um, notice the BIG O icon! Opera, my choice (Actually, I use Opera USB and TOR most of the time.) I personally hate Firefox, but don't let that stop you from using it
  11. Damn, I need to spell check my posts...also Removed, Sorry...I didn't notice that it was over 1 meg file because I am on a high speed connection. Will make note to self in the future when posting screen caps and such. Thanks.
  12. just read this : So make sure Windows is not the default driver for your hard drive disk controller card. You should check your manufacturers website for updated drivers. This may not fix your problem but give it a shot. Check under hardware settings and check the driver for each drive. If it is from Microsoft and or from 2001, you may need the updated driver. Also, you may be running into fragmentation issues. You cannot defrag a drive without enough space for the defrag to take place, but this may clear up some of the problems. Hak5 did a good episode explaining defrag and what the minimum space requirements were (can't remember off the top of my head) You may need to free up some space and clean up the disk (turn of indexing on all drives if it is currently turned on - forgot to ask this before - but it will severely impact your disk access and is not needed unless your searching under administratvie tools for certain text within a file)
  13. Is System Restore on for the extra drives? Are they just used for storage and no oerating systems or sys file son them? If not, then turn off system restore for the extra drives - Drive Z on has 1% free? Is this the one your copying to/from or moving from when the error occurs. Check your NIC card for updated drivers. You said it happens on most torrents, possibly an online connection problem with the lan card and buffering issues. Try copying files with the lan card disabled (offline, from one disc to another). Check for bad IDE cables (usually a simple fix) or hardware connections. Also, a lot of people sued to get this error with external drives hooked up through USB. Try removing the SATA drive and just use the other two and see what happens. It may be confilcting with one of the other pci cards, like video or lan. Check hardware settings and see if they are sharing any irqs. (right-click my computer, then properties, hardware tab, device manager, and change view to "Devices by connection" See if anything has a little yellow exclamation point or your pci are sharing any connections or pci to usb is having problems. Something in there could be misconfigured or conflicting. Most likely its something simple, but I woul dbe the drive is actually ok and it is a problem somewhere in the connections. One last thing to try is change your virtual memory for the exta drives and give them less/more depending on th eamount of ram you have. You may be running into a wall if your not allocating enough swap space and sys restore is holding un accounted for space during your moving or downloading of files.
  14. Few other questions. What OS, version, updates,e tc. What other hardware involved (video, attached devices, etc) what services are running? Indexing turned on or off?
  15. Check your manufaturers website for the mother board and see if there is a flash utility to "Flash" the bios with an update. I did this on an old pentium 200mmx and was able to get it to boot from the cd-rom drive when it was not listed by default in the bios. You will probably need a floppy drive to install the update. For mine, I saved the flash boot file to a floppy and on boot when you get the main screen where it says something like "Press delete to enter bios", etc, you press F2 (or at least on mine) and it reads the floppy before it goes any further. It the loaded a flash utility that automatically flashed the bios (if I remember correctly). IT does not boot from the floppy itself though, and this probably only works on a Bios that allows you to "Flash" it to upgrade the bios. If your boot screen does not have any prompts at the bottom to upgrade the bios then your probably out of luck, but like I said, check your manufaturers website for the motherboad and bios and see what they have. Many of them can be upgraded or reconfigureed with various utilities. Try google if all else fails.

    Cain on usb [How To]

This works with no problems, but are you doing this just to have it with you on the go, or for a hack? If it is used as a hack to get info from other computers, you will notice(if they have a good firewall or anti-virus running) that as soon as you try to run cain, it asks to install a new device driver(because of winPcap tied to cain.exe) and will alert most anti-virus software. If they have none running and they have "Shell Hardware Detection" service on, then you should be in the clear. Also, be sure to delete your tracks from the event viewer under the "system" section and any logs that may have been written to the anti-virus section. To view these logs, type "eventvwr.msc" from a startrun command prompt on WinXP. I assume the same for 2000 and Server2003, but I do not run these systems so I do not know if that would be a true statement. I see entries for the following: "The Network Monitor Driver service was successfully sent a start control. and "The NetGroup Packet Filter Driver service was successfully sent a start control."
