  1. Can't wait for this to release! Gaming is the only thing keeping me on Windows.
  2. My boss still has his original Droid (which is falling apart). He's trying to hold out until September for the new iPhone. lol Who else thinks Apple will call it the "new iPhone" instead of the "iPhone 5"?
  3. I've heard good things about ESET from other forums. I've used Sunbelt before, but it wasn't in a enterprise environment (and I've never gotten a virus on any of my computers), so I can't comment on it's effectiveness.
  4. We also use Sophos where I work, and I'm not a fan either. Half the stuff it finds, it can't clean, and the rest of the time, it let's the "cheap" malware by. I'm also interested in suggestions.
  5. I second this. i5's will likely be obsolete in a couple years, but you'll probably get more life out of an i7. Other than that, good choices. CoolerMaster makes awesome cases.
  6. CrackBerry...lulz :P I thought I would hate the touch screen (I hate fingerprints), but after owning a flip phone for years, the iPhone was a nice upgrade (although the fingerprints still get on my nerves).
  7. I have a friend who just recently upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus from the Droid X2, and he really likes it. It's a nice phone. Also have another friend with a Galaxy S III. It's pretty slick, too. My next phone might be Android, depending on what Apple does with the iPhone in the next year or so. Like I said, I like both, but I just decided to go iOS this go around.
  8. Thanks for all your hard work, Darren. Love the show!
  9. Yeah, I've heard of a few complaints with Ubuntu 12.04, but I haven't had any serious problems. Mint 12 was a total flop, but they seemed to have redeemed themselves with 13. MATE is pretty nice (I loved Gnome 2.x). I hated Unity when Ubuntu first switched to it, but it's grown on me since then. Feel free to mess around with different desktop environments (DE's) to find one you like. The hate for Unity is what drove Mint to the top of distrowatch.com. They're practically the same thing anyway, just with different DE's. Graphics drivers have always been a problem with Linux, but that's just the nature of the beast. I would keep trying distros until you find one that runs smoothly on your system. Unity isn't the most stable thing in the world anyway. I've had it crap out on me a few times for no reason. I currently run Mint 11 on my web server (need to upgrade to 13 before October ) and Ubuntu 12.04 on my netbook.
  10. Personally, I own an iPhone 4S (my first smartphone), and I love it. Yeah, you are locked into Apple's little sandbox (I don't jailbreak), but I don't see it as a bad thing honestly. I just want something that works and has good support. It's really more of a question of which ecosystem you prefer. The operating systems have similar functionality and a lot of the same apps are available on both. The Flash argument is dead, as it Adobe won't be actively developing it for Android anymore. Most popular websites have mobile versions now anyway. Honestly, my biggest complaint about Android is the amount of fragmentation and lack of update support for the average user. ICS has been out for nearly a year and is still only installed on about 10% of devices: http://developer.and...ards/index.html http://techcrunch.co...opensignalmaps/ Contrast that with iOS... http://david-smith.o...osversionstats/ When you have THAT many devices to support, it's infeasible from an business standpoint to provide the latest and greatest version of Android to every device. Apple built their ecosystem on ONE new phone every year, and they make a darn good one if you ask me. Yes, you do have the option of rooting and installing a custom ROM, but they're often riddled with bugs and updating is a pain. That said, I have installed ICS on my HP Touchpad (bought it on sale from woot.com :D ), and I love it. I'm not an Apple fanboy by any stretch (I still think the iPad is just a big iPod Touch), but I digress. It's really up to the end user. Both are great choices. If you do decide to go with iOS, I would wait for the new iPhone (5?) to come out in the fall. If not, bigger and badder Android phones are made every day.
  11. Developer (Java, C++, PHP, MySQL, Python, and a little HTML), IT assistant, gamer, and all around geek. I use Chrome primarily for its speed and reliability. I also love the sync feature (which Firefox finally caught up to). I was a big fan of Firefox 3 and 4, but after 5, 6, 7, etc. hit, I quit using it as my primary browser. Each new version seemed buggier and slower than the previous. And don't get me started on the Adobe Reader PDF plugin. I know, blame Adobe, but what happened to that built-in PDF plugin written in JavaScript that Mozilla teased us with? Firefox just feels clunky and slow today compared to Chrome, especially when opening a high number of tabs (15+ for me). I've never seen my boss with less than 30 tabs open, and he's never complained of Chrome slowing down. I know browsers are a religion with some people, but I just use what works best for me (and I suggest everybody else do the same). Most of my friends also use Chrome.
  12. Python would be a great choice. Object oriented (OO), dynamic, etc. with lots of applications in web development. I'm using it in a web dev class right now in conjunction with the Django framework. Once you get started, it's pretty straightforward. Ruby on Rails would be another good choice, although it's not as popular. Java is also a good starter language.
  13. We use OTRS at my job, and it has served us well for years.
  14. I get a 404 on the "Server IP and info" link after submitting the Google Docs sign-up form.
  15. I had some extra Amazon credit from a book trade-in, so I spent some of it on BF3 Premium. I think it was a worthwhile purchase, as you get all the DLC early (and for a cheaper total price). Close Quarters Conquest Domination is quite fun. :)
  16. I tried it once, but it just felt like a cheap CoD knock-off (with less ammo lol). But it is kind of fun virtually robbing banks. :P
