  1. the Russian site flashboot.ru has a large up-to-date collection of production-tools : http://74.125.93.104/translate_c?hl=en&amp...b9q8fvJDuKBBsWQ No registration is required to download :) They also have a data-base of 670+ flash-drives with info on the MPT to use : http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&am...kxMpOpAf5W2JaVA PS : I'm archiving the tools, just in case the site goes off-line someday ..
  2. Nice Machstorm, and you don't even work for them yet . I'm sure you will turn out to be a good little German ..

Forget it, a Cruzer Titanium Plus is not like all the other U3-enabled cruzers .. it has hardware AES-encryption and uses a slightly different LP-installer (and controller-chip) than all the other sandisk u3's . The really funny thing about it is that it uses ... "Universal Customizer" a'la Sandisk :) Download the "Titanium Plus Only" LP-installer from Sandisk (Note for resource-hacker fans : supports drives larger than 4GB) http://mp3support.sandisk.com/downloads/u3updater1.0.7.8-plus.exe Extract it with 7zip and there you have it : same DIR-structure as the "Universal Customizer" go to : \bin and you find "LAUNCHPAD.ISO" Note the size : 10,643,456 bytes (10.1MB) !! From there it's same procedure as always .. NB : I think you will loose the ability to use encryption if you remove the original sandisk LP .. As far as I recall you can delete all the CHM-helpfiles and other useless stuff inside the actual LP-ISO an get sufficient space to include the hacksaw-files ..
  4. Good to hear it worked .. ..but why is everybody removing the CD-partition ? You could put an entire Linux Live-CD (or bartPE) on it and have a persistent home-DIR on the flash or you could ...
  5. The driver is an absolute requirement, the tool can not "talk" with the controller-chip without it . The tool doesn't auto-enumerate the usb-port so you need to press F3 or select the menu-item; "Refresh" seems to do the same btw.. It's probably a good idea to disconnect all USB-devices when running the tool and once you are done re-programming the drive you should un-install the software .. Once the tool sees the flash-drive go to "Setting" (F1) . In the first tab you have various options relating to how the drive identifies itself to windows (or any other OS) . Of special interest is the option "Disk Type" . If you select "Fixed" instead of the default "Removable" you will later be able to create and simultaneously mount multiple partitions on windows, just like any "normal" HDD . You can pretty much change any setting on that tab to whatever you like, just leave the VID/PID alone .. In the next tab you might want to change the option in the serial-number section to "don't change serial number" or maybe even define your own sr# (and say goodbye to any warranty but you probably do that just by using the tool !! ) Last is the "Partition Settings" tab. To reclaim all the available space and create one large partition (or "LUN" to be more exact, it's not the same as "partition"), go to "Public Area 1 (LUN 0)" and check "Partition Option", check that "Partition Size" is set to "auto", enter a "Volume label" (optional), select file-system, make sure all other options on the tab are grayed out, then save your settings (for reference in case you want to change something later ) and click "OK" . When you are ready to apply the changes, just press the "spacebar" (and say goodbye to any warranty)
  6. Yes, first : stop messing around with Explorer, diskmanager and everything else when the production-tool and the special driver has been installed. To Windows the drive will NOT behave as "normal" when the production-tool/driver is running and all that matters is if the tool sees the drive or not. Again, DO NOT access the flash-drive with explorer, diskmanager or anything else ! second :If you feel you are close to cracking it I won't take all the fun away from you (yet) :)
  7. Try this little tool, ChipGenius v2.64, http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&am...xcDwzXiShNs-IKg it's very good at identifying the controller-chip correctly and provides a link to the the right tool if available. Follow the link, take note of the name and version of the tool and then download it from FlashBoot.ru : http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&am...picY6jzMYyJeuFg
  8. Uhm, the reason this seems to work is that the Sandisk LP-removal tool reformats the drive properly, ie enables the controller to see the flash-ram it couldn't see previously because of being "flashed" with a LP-updater that only supports 4GB ..

How is anyone supposed to help you when you provide ZERO information ? OS,brand, model and capacity of your U3-drive etc etc .. Normally, what you do is download the LP-installer from the manufacturers web-site and run it . Be aware that the U3 CD-ROM does not work on Vista. LP-updaters made for Vista-compatibility will reformat the drive and change the CD-ROM to a read-only removable drive. These do not auto-run ..
  10. It would help if you name the brand of your U3-drive ! Anyway, you can download the latest Launchpad from the drive-manufacturers web-site . Sandisk : http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.exe . For all other brands you need to download their updater, it also contains the LP-ISO .
  11. According to the user-manual the device must be connected to the host before running the tool : http://www.prolific.com.tw/support/files/%...tility_v11B.pdf PL-2515/2515PRO/2518 Software and Drivers : http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=47
  12. That doesn't work either, they DID guess the plot correctly and what did that help ? Live ITV News interview with Peter Power, the Managing Director of Crisis Management firm Visor Consultants who was 'actually running an exercise... based on simultaneous bombs going off precisely at the railway stations that happened'. Recorded at 8:20pm on the evening of the 7/7 London Bombings.
  13. Wow, a real hack ^_^ also, nice presentation !

No, the reason it comes FAT-formatted from the factory is that FAT performs better on flash-RAM. Using NTFS will increase the number of writes to flash, f.ex it will have to update the access-time of each file you touch, on MLC flash this requires a cell-erase and then a write, this extra write-activity will reduce the expected lifetime of your drive to some degree and obviously wont speed things up either. If your drive looses capacity after running the Universal Customizer (UC) you can not regain the capacity with normal disk-tools under widow$ or Linux. The controller will simply not be able to recognise the lost capacity until you run a UC that support more than 4GB. This is because the UC, unlike normal disk-tools, actually initializes, checks and formats the physical flash-ram . As for the problem with FAT not supporting files larger than 4GB : If you want to bring a movie with you on your flash-drive it would be better to extract the ISO and keep the stick FAT-formatted . Many of the cheapo DVD-players with USB-ports won't recognise NTFS-formatted removable drives . You should only use NTFS on flash-media if you need the advanced features like permissions, encryption etc
  15. Prolific UFD Utility v21400 : http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&am...o3lgIrsMmxhRzkw ..it's not a real production-tool but it can reformat the device ...
  16. Based on the VID/PID it sounds like a Transcend-drive ? They use Alcor-controllers in a lot of their drives, production-tools for Alcor can be found here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...%3Fname%3DFiles A good tool to identify your UFD's controller can be downloaded here : http://www.mydigit.cn/mytool/chipgenius.rar If a mfg-tool is available for your UFD it will even show a link to the tool. Unfortunately the files are on a Chinese board that requires registration and "points" to download but all the files are also available on the Russian board :) Edit : If it IS a Transcend you might find something useful here as well : http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/

For Sandisk it's a question of finding out what versions of the LP-installer have the capability to load a ISO from it's own DIR, I know LPinstaller.exe v 1.0.0.12 can and works with drives up to 4GB . At some point that was removed, instead the ISO was downloaded to your temp-dir and loaded from there once you clicked "apply update" . Also, the hardware-revision may have some importance,"old" LP-installers may not work with newer revisions ? As for how the LP-updater does it ... I suspect that the LP-installer is in fact a modified version of the production-tool, somehow it communicates with the controller-chip and it's the chip doing the actual transfer ..

The ISO-size is only limited by the devices capacity : http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/Talk:Memorex_U3_ISO_Hack The problem people have with capacity disappearing is caused by the "Universal Customizer" being to old .. It's from a time when a 4GB UFD was gargantual and doesn't see anything over 4GB . Sandisk-users should find a original sandisk-tool to load the custom ISO as sandisk use a in-house controller that is a bit different from what "the others" use . For all non-sandisk U3-drives you can find a LP-installer/updater on the mfg-web-site. If you extract it with 7zip or WinRar, then extract again... Look at the directory-structure and I think you get the point :) EDIT : Keep in mind that U3 wasn't exactly thrilled by all this hardware-"hacking" and may have changed the LP-installers or even the controller to make it harder to do . Still, the LP-installers can write to the CD-ROM and reformat the entire device so there IS a way ..
  19. You "just" need to find a flash-drive that uses a "auto-run enabled" controller and the production-tool to make the changes required . OTi & Chipsbank (amongst others) make such controllers ..

  21. THE goldmine for info on booting from flash-drives : http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showforum=37 http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showforum=38 Sure you can do what you suggest, you could even resize the CD-device and load a bootable ISO onto it, or how about a custom bartPE ? many BIOS see the u3 CD-ROM as a USB-CD ..
  22. Have a look here, Russian board with lots of production-tools : http://209.85.171.104/translate_c?hl=en&am...lB5iLUdvvybPoCA Maybe it's this one : MW6208 MPTool_V2.0 20071220 ? EDIT : Or this one : AMECO_MXT6208_UDiskTools_1.0.2.9_080325.rar both can be downloaded from the russian site ..
  23. You missed the point, all the LP-updaters, Universal Customizers and whatnot are made to work with specific hardware-versions .
  24. http://communities.sandisk.com/sandisk/boa...p;thread.id=493
  25. No, the problem is the opposite; Your LP-installer is to new ! Because of the U3-hacks Sandisk changed the LP-installer so it no longer loads a ISO in it's DIR. Try version 1.0.0.12
