  1. In the iFlash database the tool listed for 32-GB A-Data drives is MP TOOL UT165 (UT163) 1.65.10.0 http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash maker VID PID MPT A-DATA 32 Gb 1307 0163 MP TOOL UT165 (UT163) 1.65.10.0 A newer version, 1.65.14, is here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash My guess is that drives above a certain capacity need the UT163/165 combo-tool . (Maybe A-data has something that could be of use ? http://www.adata.com.tw/en/support.php)
  2. @ MtwStark : Sounds like you have a broken drive . The data is likely still there and can be extracted from the NAND-chip(s) with special hardware, have a look here for some more info : http://www.aplusperfect.com/data-recovery http://www.aplusperfect.com/usb-flash-drive-data-recovery @ Arayanz : Try downloading ALL the MPT's for the UT163, sometimes the latest version doesn't work on older chip-revisions .. I think that's the issue you have, the error-code seems to confirm a version-mismatch . EDIT : There's a manual for the UT165 MPT here : http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...Tg-MFXn67xxiBqw Much of it also applies to the UT163 MPT .
  3. "Why bother with encryption, it's only safe if it deletes the hard-disk after 3 wrong passwords .." Sometimes you gotta wonder how people can still have a job :)
  4. No, you can't do that .. What you can do is boot the TC rescue-disk from a flash-drive via grub4dos or just use the rescue-CD itself. Wipe the first track containing the TC-bootloader (and the encrypted key) from your HDD . Every TC bootloader is unique, even with a blank password, so effectively this would be like using the TC bootloader as a keyfile . If you don't have it, the 'puter won't boot into any OS .. Have a look here for more info : http://grub4dos.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Mr
  5. ChipsBank tools are here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash It's probably one of these you need : http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...37MZU5XyYYIKLYQ http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...HXmYjTljAjYaMrA The data-sheet is here : http://www.chipsbank.com/downloads/chips/c...1_datasheet.pdf Sorry, I don't have a manual for this tool .. ( It's a good chip BTW.. fast, allows multi-LUN, private/public area, CD-ROM LUN, changing of the removable media bit etc etc . Great chip for experimenting :) )
  6. I don't have a drive with that controller :( but .. Generally these programs work by reading a .ini-file when performing the actual flash so you need to set all the different options, save the .ini-file, then run the program . Sometimes there's a "production-mode"-option, or something named like that, hidden somewhere that also needs to be enabled . Pay special attention to the "partition"-options, I believe for this tool you need to check the box that matches the total capacity of your drive . Unfortunately the documentation for this tool is non-existent it appears . Some tools do have good manuals in .pdf, get a couple and read them, these Mass Production Tools all do pretty much the same, just in different ways, so reading the documentation for other MPT's gives you an idea of the principle of operation . @ DLSS : Nope, you will need to disassemble the drive and read the markings on the chip .. Is it a e-bay drive ?
  7. Why not mod this de-caff cofee-thing into a switchblade/hacksaw ? It has a nice little GUI for adding new functions, randomizes filenames, easy control over load-order and performs hash-checks .. pretty nice IMO . Could probably even run off the CD-ROM of a capable flash-drive :P

    COFEE Leaked

Very nice, a GUI-app that allows noobs to create autorun for more than one program ! I kinda like the hash-check :)
  9. And that is exactly why you don't know what you are talking about.. noob :(
  10. It's entirely doable, the only problem is that not all BIOS will boot from the CD-LUN, even if they can see it (as most BIOS seem to) . Some BIOS will not work if you cold-boot but will on a warm-boot, some may work occasional, some will not boot the CD-LUN if you have other USB-devices attached, some will only use the slow USB etc etc .. Fitting things into the CD-ROM LUN isn't really a problem, you can use the LP-installer to re-size the CD-ROM LUN, see my post here : http://hak5.org/forums/index.php?showtopic...st&p=114334 Note that you probably need the exact version of the LP-installer specified in that post as sandisk keeps changing how the updater works . I'm not sure how much space you can allocate to the CD-ROM LUN on a sandisk, some controllers seem to limit it to 50% and naturally the limitations of the CDFS filesystem also apply . Non-sandisk U3 drives can do the same, have a look here : http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/Talk:Memorex_U3_ISO_Hack Or you can download the Mass Production Tool for the specific controller from flashboot.ru translated version here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash A surprisingly large percentage of recent flash-controllers can be set up with multiple LUN's, including "CD-ROM" or "Autorun Function" as they sometimes call it .
  11. VID = 0DD8 is a NETAC- controller (unless the VID-PID have been changed/faked), NETAC tools are here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash This is the NETAC Mass Production Tool : http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...lcwBvcRLOkEx7ZQ
  12. You are a good little German . History shows that people who think they have nothing to hide very often end up DEAD, killed by the very government supposed to protect your rights . You can go to jail MANY PLACES on this planet just for having "undesirable", "immoral" or "subversive" books, movies, newspapers etc . In China you go to jail for a friggin' PLAYBOY !!! Besides, encrypting your data protects it against computer-stealing scumbags and everybody else who shouldn't be poking around in your personal records, including tyrannical governments . You know, things like the digital signature you use for your online banking, financial records, your address-book, "private" photos of your girlfriend(s) etc etc .. Or you may have a JOB that requires you to handle personal information about other people, information that might be required by law to be kept safe and confidential . So, don't give me that crappy strawman argument about paedophiles and terrorists, it is the argument of shills, idiots or both .
  13. No it won't, it will increase load-times a tiny bit, but in-game performance will not be affected the least provided you are not over-taxing the CPU. Games, like other applications, don't run from disk, they run from RAM . Anyway, with TrueCrypt a Conroe E6600 can decrypt about 200MB/s, a quad-core @ 2.4Ghz can handle 400MB/s etc etc . Show me a non-raided mechanical HDD that comes even close to being able to transfer at those speeds .. Not the random write benchmark because with a truecrypted disk there ARE no random writes, the TC-driver makes everything into sequential writes . PS : Deveant is spot-on.. Get a SSD, it's the best performance-booster around atm .. It's not really the massive transfer-rates that makes these disks shine, it's the 0.1ms access-time .. For those of you who think SSD's are way to expensive : I paid MORE for 8MB !! (YES MB !!!) RAM for my first 486 PC than the going price of a 60GB OCZ Vertex :(
  14. That's an AMECO-controler, tools are here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash It's probably this one you need : http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...8i-096DNboUbD4Q
  15. Nope, you will have to disassemble it and read the markings on the controller-chip .. They probably had it custom-made somewhere, the VID and PID doesn't return any results anywhere so it's likely they have been changed . Or you could start trying the tools one by one until you find the right one :)

    Truecrypt

TrueCrypt has a built-in benchmark that will tell you how many MB/s your processor can en/de-crypt .. Boot-times will be just as slow as all other windows boot-times :)
  18. I guess most of you have seen the Steve Balmer "develop, develop, develop" video ? By supporting Linux you get (potentially) millions of developers working on a project, mostly for free . You can't buy that kind of commitment for money .. ..and you don't have to pay an army of weasel-lawyers to sort out the IP-rights issues :)
  19. Hacker... ;) The TrueCrypt forum has lots of post from people wanting auto-mount on insertion of a flash-drive . Of course, we all know here that the problem with this is that it requires auto-infect to be enabled in the first place . Securing you data with encryption and then mounting it on a m$ auto-infect capable host is pretty daft .. On your own computer, use Uwe Siebers USBDLM http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbdlm_e.html instead, a windows-service that lets you pre-approve the drives that may perform auto-run, based on USB SR#, volume-label or a bunch of other criteria . It also allows you to have the drive(s)/partition(s) mounted to the same letter(s) each time, great tool for those of us who want safe autorun on our home system . USBDLM can even read and execute a "autorun.inf" inside the mounted TC-volume !
  20. Nice tutorial .. It has been done before, but it's the first tutorial I've seen .. It was the first thing I did when I found out how to load my own images to the CD-ROM LUN, RAW device-encryption is the only way to go with flash-ram .. It will also give you a noticeable performance-boost because the TC-driver turns all random writes into sequential. Many drives other than sandisk/U3 can do the CD-trick btw, some are even a better choice because the Mass Production Tool is available, giving you full control over the controller-chip . A few controllers can manage 3 active LUN's simultaneously and you can choose to set one as CD-ROM and the rest as "FIXED" (ie "real" HDD) or removable . If set as "FIXED" you can create (and USE) multiple partitions from within windows, unlike "removable" that only allows one partition .. So, you could have 8 primary partitions and a CD-ROM in your pocket, not bad :) Even better is that some BIOS can boot from the CD-ROM .. Have a look here if you have a flash-drive you want to experiment with, some of them can do some pretty neat stuff, maybe the right tool is there : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash

    TrueCrypt Hacked

He's just a loudmouth trying to get attention and he's getting it . He needs the attention because he is starting his own start-up or whatever crap it was he wrote somewhere . TrueCrypt is NOT cracked, all he does is intercept the password via a root-kit that may or may not be able to "install itself" (if the user is stupid enough to let it) . This is not very different from someone building a keylogger into your system . Nothing new here really, if your system is compromised it's game over.
  22. It's not a partition, it's a LUN, and the OS actually sees it as a CD-ROM class device .. The flash-drives controller must support both multi-LUN and "autorun-feature" as they like to call it . Many flash-controllers manufactured within the last 3-4 years have these features, even when it's not advertised or used . To enable it, you will need the specific "Mass-production tool (MPT)" for the controller . You can find a large collection of MPT's at the Russian site "flashboot.ru" .. google translate is your friend :) You will also find a nice tool there that helps you identify the controller .. There is no available MPT for sandisk-drives, they are after all a military contractor with Israeli security ... NB : You can only write to the CD-ROM device using special software that can "talk" with the flash-controller .. This may sound annoying, in real life it's very good because it makes it virtually impossible to delete (or infect ) anything residing on the CD-ROM .. For u3-drives there is also " the universal customizer ", it allows you to load your own ISO on the CD-ROM . Beware !! older versions of " the universal customizer " only supports up to 4GB, anything above "disappears" !!! For Sandisk-drives you should use sandisk's own " LP-installer " .. More info here : http://hak5.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=8614&hl=
  23. Yeah, or you could just disable autolaunch in the U3-Launchpad, that way you can still use the password-function .
  24. You don't get viruses from not having AV, you get viruses from doing stupid things .. .. like having XP and always run as admin, using IExploder and allowing arbitrary web-sites to execute code via java-script or activeX or downloading obscure cracked software from even more obscure sources . And you know what ? As soon as you disable heuristics all those expensive AV's don't find anything ! Because 7zip is not an evil virus trying to infect your temp-dir .. ROFL .. what a ho !
