  1. just a thought .. couldn't you type ASCII-codes on the num-pad ?
  2. Or they could just discreetly follow the perps and grab them when they need to fill the tank ... but nooooo, why waste a chance to be a movie-cop and start a high-speed chase in populated areas .. It's a lot sexier than auditing the books of the banksters . But this really isn't surprising, most computer-equipment in commercial applications is built on a trust-model, ie the different pieces of hardware "trust" each other . Well, no "security-expert" likes "trust" .
  3. I can't say if it's "the best" but it certainly is small ... http://www.yoggie.com/Gatekeeper-SOHO They also make a very reasonably priced OPEN SOURCE !! version, unfortunately it's sold out at the moment : http://www.yoggie.com/Open-Firewall-Debug-Board Moving a bit up in price there's Soekris net 5501 http://www.soekris.com/net5501.htm It can run most linux router-distros and there's also a special version of Zeroshell, http://www.zeroshell.net/eng/ , for it . If you have an old computer collecting dust it can probably run zeroshell (or smoothwall or any other linux router-distro)if you add a second NIC : Or you could build a very nice dedicated box with a Atom-board with 2 NIC's ..
  4. Man, are you gonna love this thing :) http://www.i-odd.com/english/product/iodd2501.php I'm gonna grab a couple and have a go at them.. who knows, maybe they can be made even more fun ?
  5. @Dengle : Looks like they changed the VID/PID :( I've seen one controller marked "V88 6227-24", it turned out to be a Chipsbank (CBM) controller and this MPT worked : CBM2093 UMPTool v3.3.9.1 091127 . Since the number on yours is lower, try a older MPT-version if that one doesn't work .. @neaghi : Not exactly like Chipgenius but nirsoft's USBDview http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html can show a lot of useful info on all connected (and previously connected !!) usb-devices . Lately there has been a few card-reader MPT's posted @ flashboot .
  6. It's a Alcor-controller chip, not sure about the exact model but you can find the tools here : http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...zE-N4r2_CC-eAXA

    Alpha Shield Firewall

   What that means is : " Buy this product, our associates make it . "
  8. It's because you are using OLD tools on a newer device . Get Gonzors customizer v1.0.5.5 here : http://flashboot.ru/index.php?name=Files&a...ile&lid=409 It works with newer devices and devices larger than 4GB
  9. "cryptsetup" is a linux ENCRYPTION tool, probably not what you are after . Your flash-drive most likely has password-protection built in, in the form of the ATA-security functions . The trick is finding the software to set/enter the password . For USBest controllers (Ut163,165 etc) it's called "UFDUtility.exe", the manual is here : http://www.ao-lab.com/download/manual/UFD%...r-Manual_EN.pdf and the program is here : http://www.mediafire.com/?mnydz3gnwzu The tool is made for the controller, each chip-vendor has their own (or should have ) So, you will need to identify your UFD's controller-chip and then use google to find the tool . (or have a look at flashboot.ru, they have a few login-tools in the collection . Some login-tools are provided with the controllers Mass Production Tool )
  10. I guess they miss the good old days were just about anyone living in Australia was either a convict or a prison-guard .. This silly country even protects under-age cartoon-figures against "sexual predators" .
  11. That's what you get for making it "illegal" to hack iApples iIdiotic iPod iEarbud-iControls .. How the f#ck do they expect cutting-edge innovation when it takes the lawyers 12 years to decide if it's against the DMCA and another 12 years fending off all the frivolous "patent" law-suits ?
  12. Thanks a lot, I'm sure this will come in handy someday soon ..
  13. Like moonlit said : There is no need to reformat anything, you can convert a FAT-volume to NTFS inline . (without loosing data .. unless you have a power-blackout . Removing the drive from the enclosure and attaching it to a real disk-controller in your PC will speed up the process at least 2X) Attempting to compress encrypted data with zip/rar is pointless, in fact you will most likely end up with something that takes up slightly more space . You can however use NTFS-compression on the mounted NTFS TC-volume with excellent results .
  14. You must allow java-script for both flashboot.ru & google-translate (and possibly even the evil-cookie-of-eternity). At least that fixed it for me :)
  15. Maybe your chip is a later revision ? These are the 2 latest (available?) AMECO-tools for 8208 : Ameco MW6208E 8208 1.2.0.6 20090608 (UdTools v1.2.0.6) http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash Ameco MW6208E 8208 1.2.0.8 20090724 (UdTools v1.2.0.8) http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...3Fname%3Diflash (the download only works if you allow java-script for google-translate, otherwise you will have to download from the Cyrillic-alphabet page .. ) Usually the latest version works on all previous chip-revisions. EDIT : Hmmmm.... CBM is usually an abbreviation for ChipsBank, another chip-manufacturer . Best way to identify a controller is to disassemble the drive and read the markings on the chip. While you are inside, take note of the markings on the NAND to ..
  16. Here are the error-codes the USBest-tool throws : 0x10 Disk can't be formated as the selected file system 0x11 Disk mounted flash chips doesn't match the setting 0x12 Disk size doesn't match the setting 0x13 Disk is write-protected 0x14 Disk size is zero 0x28 Run SCSI command Failed 0x41 ISP / CIS blk search Failed 0x42 Build flash LUT Failed 0x44 Bad block count is out of range 0x48 Bad block count exceed tolerance 0x51 Single/Dual channel check Failed 0x52 USB 2.0 check Failed 0x54 Firmware version mismatch with controller type 0x58 Bad block count of table is not match with number of scanned bad block 0x61 Rebuild Flash BAD Blk Failed 0x62 Autorun Image Error 0x64 Sensor Error 0x68 Erase Block Failed 0x72 Initialize ISP Failed 0x74 Check Disk Information Failed 0x78 Update Disk Information Failed 0x82 Flash Manufacture checking error 0x84 Sensor Get Image Failed 0x88 Run Disk Stress R/W Failed 0x91 Clear Hidden Blk Failed 0x92 Source folder doesn't exist or source file is missing 0x94 Check Disk MBR/FAT Failed 0x98 Format Disk Failed 0xa1 Size of source files is large than partition size during running 0xa2 Partition Setting Error 0xa4 Size of source files is large than partition size 0xa8 Copy Files Failed 0x12 Disk size doesn't match the setting Seems like there is a wrong setting somewhere in all the options . The other drive, I have no idea what it really is.. rip it apart if you can and read the markings on the chip, it's the only way to identify the controller to a reasonable degree of certainty as it will identify itself as whatever someone told it to !!
  17. To bad it doesn't work, these CD+HDD controllers are a bitch to crack .. Any chance of downloading the tool they sent you somewhere, these things are almost impossible to find ?
  18. First, try UFDUtility v 3.2.1.0 , it's the original consumer-application for USBest-controllers and allows you to do most of the things the MPT does ( It can't flip the RMB ) Go to "Autorun manager" and check "Single Partition" : http://www.mediafire.com/file/yzvzqmg2z3z/UFDUtility.7z If that doesn't do it : Please define "nothing happens" :) Do any of the MPT's you tried even see the device or anything, indicated by the first port turning blue in the UI? (press F3 to enumerate USB-ports, this tool doesn't autoscan) Some general advice for working with MPT : Disconnect other USB-devices, especially composite, some MPT install a modified USB-driver, it might get confused by other devices . Only insert the UFD after the MPT has started and the driver loaded, do not access the device with any other programs ! Obviously, you need admin-rights and loading of unsigned drivers must be allowed, AntiVirus and other security-software should not be allowed to interfere and XP Pro is still better than Vista/win7 for this task .
  19. Try : "Devicemanager/%your device%/properties/details" or Nirsofts USBDeview http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html ( highly recommended!! ) You can convert the HEX with windows calc :
  20. Check this, xSIL251 manufacturer-tool, apparently it's the USB-controller-chip that creates the CD-ROM : http://www.mediafire.com/?bgwuwq5xzbm
  21. This is the manufacturer-tool, with manual, for xSIL 251 controller : http://www.mediafire.com/?bgwuwq5xzbm
  22. So far, you can't remove it, there are no known working tools floating around for newer HDD with CD-ROM .. It's likely a Toshiba/Fujitsu HDD, somebody will have to bug them with enough support-requests to make them release the tool . Note : The clickfree software has a autoupdate-feature, this suggests that it can at least write to the CD-ROM. There must be some software capable of "talking" with the controller stuffed away on that CD-ROM.. Edit : This works for some people : http://www.techsupportlive.com/index.php?_...=29&nav=0,8 You may have to add the VID-PID of your device in the .ini.file .
  23. Google is useless if you use the words "toshiba" and/or "PH3100U-1EXB", all you get is 10.000 mongers wanting to push one of these things :( ( please provide a link to the software you tried (Shd2cdhd.exe) ) Taking the thing apart could probably reveal something interesting but it will void your warranty, so .... What is on that CD-ROM besides the backup-software ? Can the software be updated ? If you are lucky the tool is somewhere on the CD-ROM (like it was with U3).. If none of that works you will need to extract as much info as possible from the device and use that to search for non-commercial links .. most likely the tool is on some Chinese geek-board .
  24. The CD-ROM isn't "spoofed", it IS a USB CD-drive (except for the motor, the laser, the plastic-disk and all the other mechanical crap).. Some BIOS will boot from it, some wont :( http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/Talk:Memorex_U3_ISO_Hack A few controllers have something called "single-disk autorun"allowing you to turn the entire device into a USB CD-ROM without any mass-storage device, that might help with some BIOS .. www.flashboot.ru is your friend when you need tools to load the ISO to non-sandisk UFD's ..
  25. UPDATE : From the comments to this tool : Super Stick Recovery Tool V1.0.2.19 (UT161, UT163, UT165) it seems that a UT163 identified by VID/PID is sometimes in fact the UT165 !! http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...Of248SipKk1q7rg
