  1. catchy titles.

    good screenshot.

    controversial topic.

    new in the media topic.

something that hasn't been done before.

something that rivals with some one else.

something that will make enemies. (the more shit talking on your comments the more comments and views)

  2. just watched the social network. great movie. not a facebook fan but i liked the movie allot. the first 20 min. is about hacking, and then later in the film mark hires one of his first coders by having a hacking/drinking contest. pretty cool movie. go watch it.

  3. well im up to date with The big Bang Theory. for some reason i find is necessary to compare it to The IT Crowd. The Big Bang Theory has very funny jokes, and is more realistic, and uses real world references, as opposed to The IT Crowd, which is a bit more slapstick. also uses made up things like "friendface" where The Big Bang Theory actually mentions things like twitter, ubuntu, etc... Yes The IT Crowd does make some real references too, but not as much. it seems like the writters for TBBT know more about the tech world the the writters for TITC.

that said i come to my conclusion of

The IT Crowd > The Big Bang Theory

why you ask? for one simple reason. almost every single episode of TBBT is about relationships and sex and awkwardness. blah blah blah. its like American Pie for techies. its still a good show and ill still watch it but

    LONG LIVE THE IT CROWD.

Folks over at Microsoft Research have been thinking about ways to improve content translation between instances of Wikipedia. For example, today the largest collection of articles is at English Wikipedia (more than 3,000,000). Compare that number with the collection at Hindi Wikipedia (which as of July 31 of this year had 55716). One proven way to increase the articles in Hindi is machine translation, but such translations still need human review and often subtle editing to make them elegantly readable.

Enter WikiBhasha, formerly known as WikiBABEL, which launches today as both a MediaWiki extension project and a bookmarklet. WikiBhasha takes content from a targeted Wikipedia page and displays a machine translation to a second language side-by-side. Users can edit, add to or delete the translated content, preview their work and then submit it to the second language Wikipedia.

What’s especially interesting to me about this project is the fact that it’s author, researcher A. Kumaran, has tirelessly persuaded Microsoft to allow him to open source the client. The code has been checked into the MediaWiki code tree under the Apache License 2.0, which means that the powerful side-by-side editing tools developed by Mr. Kumaran can potentially be used in other MediaWiki projects. I’m very pleased to see Microsoft take this step, and I hope you will join me in welcoming WikiBhasha.

  5. I bought some cheap HDMI cables (gold plated) on eBay when my family bought our new HDTV & sound system; it was like $10 for 2 w/ free shipping. They work great and haven't had a problem yet and it's been almost two years.

and a point for the gold team. ;)

  6. what about peace of mind? does that count for anything? :)

i just enjoy have the best of the best when it comes to certain things. which can all be opinionated of course.

hence why i own $150 pair of sunglasses, $90 pair of sunglasses, and $400 frame for prescription glasses. sure sunglasses from the dollar store will work just fine, but hey, what can i say? i like to roll like the big dogs. B)

  7. You mean the copper in the wires? The copper that is coated in plastic? The copper that isn't exposed to the air? The copper that needs moisture to corrode? Copper wires, assuming they aren't in a bathroom or kitchen or similar, will probably take longer to corrode than most people live.

Higher quality cables are better! Just, not better in the ways that it usually makes sense to spend the money they cost.

If you are building a recording studio and you already dropped £1000 on a big mixer, whats £60 on top of that?

no not the copper wires the gold connectors/plugs. metal to metal connections can cause corrosion. like if you leave batteries in something too long.

If you are building a recording studio and you already dropped £1000 on a big mixer, whats £60 on top of that?

well if you dropped $1000 on an HDTV an how ever much on a blueray player whats another $60 on top of that?

  8. i have built a home recording studio, and all my audio cables are high quality. every one iv talked to in the business and every thing i have read, says that higher quality cables are better. plus gold will last longer being that its non-corrosive. i dont know if HDMI supports the same claim as audio cables, but my HDMI cables are gold plated just because i got them part of a kit. and monsters cables are not a waste of money because they have a lifetime warranty. if anything happens to them including you breaking them, they will replace it for you free of charge.

  9. what he said. its not like there is many parts to any cable. i would return it. an dont buy the same brand again. look into "monster cable". they are expensive but they have a lifetime warranty. an they are very high quality cables, normally with gold plated connections. gold having very good conductivity. probably not something you would notice with the human eye/ear, but it is better.

  10. I am employed at a college as a media services and broadcast technician. I ask the company to send a demo to the college under my name, I play with it, send it back. It's like a free form of electronic prostitution.

    thats cool.

It's like a free form of electronic prostitution.

  11. I think that the motivation behind the whole "hack the school" questions is more important. If it is for the purpose of finding out how their institution functions, how everything is connected and basically how it all works is one of merit. If it is 'hacking' out of curiosity and a passion to learn, all the power to you. If its just so you can be a pain in the arse and generally screw over your school, different story.

From my personal perspective a small group of students and I got majorly into networking just so we could lan 1.6 at school during our free's and it just snowballed from there. It would be interesting to gain a complete explanation off these skiddies as to why they want to do it.

i think 90% of the people who want to hack there school network, want to do it for bragging rights to fellow students. like "look at me i can go on facebook on the school computer and you cant!"
