shadow1100mfp
i've chosen to build a new pc rather than buy one; i'm going to buy the parts next week but i thought id put my plans on here first and see what you guys thought of it and any improvements you would recommend Case/power supply: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...AIN#detailspecs motherboard/cpu: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2430 memory: (4gb) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2261 video card (x2 for sli): http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=1839 sound card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2771 Hard drives (x3) sata: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2459 dvd burner/disk drive: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=1624 floppy/memory card reader: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...4&CatId=630 usb card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...7&CatId=511 wireless: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2688 fansx3: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...2&CatId=802 fan controller: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...2&CatId=501 speakers: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...mp;Sku=L23-6335 monitor: a flat panel tv 20-42inch any suggestions i'd be glad to take into consideration and i'll answer any questions if there are any. this pc is a bit overkill for what i'll usually be using it for (music, browsing the web, photoshop, etc.) but it's got enough power that i'll be able to play games when i feel like it
Sparda
Comments as they occur to me: Don't know PSU manufacturer Mixing different RAM specifications, in this case density. Not necessarily "Definitely won't work", but I would avoid it. Is the USB2 PCI card really necessary? No, it isn't. I would go with this case fan, that web site doesn't appear to sell them Fan controller? If the motherboard has enough fan connectors (check manual), you don't need/want it. Rab
I don't think 680W is enough. You can do the math and think it is, but in the real world you need to have a power supply plenty bigger than you need. Suggest you go for an 800W if you decide to go ahead with SLI. Antec are a good PSU manufacturer, as are Seasonic, and BFG have recently launched some nice looking PSUs. 8800GT is a good card, I'm using one now. It's a bit old now, and putting one on SLI will give you a very small overall performance increase. More like 50%, not 100%. You're better off buying a more expensive card, like a GTX 280. That also allows you to keep the option to use multiple monitors. BFG are the best graphics card manufacturer, they offer a 10 year warranty on all cards. Sound card, get a Creative X-fi, they're popular because they are leet. HD.. Samsung large capacity drives are the fastest, get those instead. Your mobo is supposed to provide you with 8 USB ports, I would leave out the USB PCI card, they are famous for being wank.

Sparda
There are 2 1GB sticks in the bundle, you are also buying 2 2GB sticks.

Rab
if you dont plan on using them, why pay for them? don't take this the wrong way, but i don't think you know enough about these components to do this properly. i suggest you buy a pre-built machine from a gaming store near you. snakey
asking people what they think about your selected parts is stupid and will confuse you. Its mainly personal preference. a better question would be "are all these parts compatible with each other" or something like that

Its mainly personal preference. a better question would be "are all these parts compatible with each other" or something like that well i know it's more personal preference, but i was mainly loking for something like "while the part you had in mind was good/ok, this one is better/cheaper/will work better with the other parts/etc". snakey
see now that is also a dumb question i will say amd every time and someone else will say intel and the loop will continue till im blue in the face. So the moral of the story "test parts for yourself"
VaKo
I like intel, they have solid products. AMD kit is great, but its targeted more at the over clocker crowd.

shadow1100mfp
i like amd because there cheap :) part of the reason i chose that specific amd bundle; good/great performance at low cost with spare memory and pcu included. even if i don't use the memory right away with this thing; it'll make a good replacement set should the ones i buy go bad; or i could build a spare computer for my dorm that was of decent performance and keep the higher performance one at home, however; i don't have a preference (i'm not so into games that i have an opinion on every part); between intel or amd; the only difference to me is the basic performance, and as long as i get something that has decent speed etc. than im happy.
