IRC connection woes

I was wondering if anybody was having trouble connecting to irc.hak5.org:6667, :6697 or :7000.  When I try to connect to :6667 I get an error that my ident is not found and the socket is closed by the remote host.  Connection attempts to :6697 and :7000 time out.  Just ran into this issue when I got back from DefCon and thought I would ask about it while I was thinking about it.  Tried connecting with and without my VPN with the same results.

When I try to connect using :6697 the remote host closes the socket immediately.  Connections to :7000 time out. 

For the record, I'm using HexChat on Debian and have tried connections using "Accept invalid SSL certificates" enabled and disabled with the same results.  Login method is set to /msg nickserv + password.

Able to connect now.  I ended up having to enable "Use SSL for all the servers on this network" in HexChat to get a connection.  NickServ gives some funky errors...not sure what that's about.

Hello, Please make sure you are connecting on port 6697 with TLS/SSL enabled.

LetsEncrypt is supplying the certificates so please avoid certificate hash pinning as the cert will change at least every 90 days. The good news is that it will "verify" for irc.hak5.org correctly.

If you have any issues connecting to IRC, please don't hesitate to reach out to me although, please, do not expect immediate replies.

I too am having issues with reconnecting..
using mIRC and have tried to add settings but no luck thus far..

Any ideas? :)

There are no error messages showing on this one this time

It just simply fails to connect..

The errors which i did have before were relating to that i was still using 6667 and stated the message that it had moved to SSL 6697

well SSL is enabled, however the info on setting the SSL on mIRC is very limited.. (7.49 is what I'm on now)

 

under the only SSL section it has ben set to "automatically Accept invalid certificates

Ive told it to create a new private key certificate file

Unless there is a specific key to use as a certificate chain file?

I am certinally have issues with connecting to the irc server as well.

I am unable to perform those commands suggested for timeout issues, which this isn't anyway.

right - rekindling this thread as I've moved house and also got a new PC, 

Installed OpenSSL-1.1.0G Win64 (as im using x64 system)

The document to get mIRC working using SSL is very crap, I've kinda pointed it to the folder which is where the SSL cert's are located (despite in v7.51 it saying it would find it automatically... Lies.. unless i reinstall it perhaps..)

I'm trying to connect on 6697 (7000 didnt work) and it just cycles round connecting / disconnected / retry

 

Those use use mIRC - Any Idea's ??

I'm wanting to get back on the chat but not been able to since it got moved to SSL only network - Finally got my Pineapple Tetra yesterday

Basically, Have to install OpenSSL (as you would - those who dont know how to do it watch this video, very helpful)

Then in mIRC, go to:

Options - Connect / Options -> SSL button
Then generate new certificate for Private key file
Use the same file for Certificate Chain File and Trusted Authority File

I also noticed that the port i put +6697 and it also did it

Its really not, I would say the trickiest part is getting to know your IRC client - depending on which one you choose (so many)

Join us at irc.hak5.org so we could help you connect to irc!

Connect to irc.hak5.org/6697 and try using option Use SSL for all the servers on this network.

having some weirdness, any ideas?

 

EDIT just kept trying and it came bsck... weird - spoke to dijit and it was a dns check marking peeps as using tor and glining them. Should be solved now.
