NShoe Posted August 8, 2016 Share Posted August 8, 2016 Hi everyone, I recently bought a wifi pineapple tetra at defcon and I can't seem get the setup url to load. The light is flashing blue so I know it works to some degree and I don't think it's because my internet connection is too slow either, what should I do? Foxtrot Posted August 8, 2016 Share Posted August 8, 2016 Does the light always flash? It should turn solid after 30seconds or so. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NShoe Posted August 8, 2016 Author Share Posted August 8, 2016 Yeah, it turns solid so that can't be it, right? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Foxtrot Posted August 8, 2016 Share Posted August 8, 2016 hmm. What is the URL you're trying to access? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Foxtrot Posted August 9, 2016 Share Posted August 9, 2016 What OS are you using? Is the microUSB cable plugged into the right port on the TETRA? (eth) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NShoe Posted August 9, 2016 Author Share Posted August 9, 2016 I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 and yes it's plugged into the eth1 port. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Skinny Posted August 9, 2016 Share Posted August 9, 2016 How are you powering the Tetra? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NShoe Posted August 10, 2016 Author Share Posted August 10, 2016 With the charger that came with it, why, could it be a power issue? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Foxtrot Posted August 10, 2016 Share Posted August 10, 2016 Unlikely. What is the output of "ifconfig" from your Ubuntu machine with the pineapple fully booted and connected to it? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NShoe Posted August 10, 2016 Author Share Posted August 10, 2016 Here's the output of ifconfig: unix@unix-Latitude-E6320:~$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 78:e7:d1:af:6f:a2 inet addr:192.168.1.230 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::7ae7:d1ff:feaf:6fa2/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:4641 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3662 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:3500086 (3.5 MB) TX bytes:790118 (790.1 KB) Interrupt:22 Memory:d8300000-d8320000 eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:13:37:a5:ab:12 inet addr:172.16.42.182 Bcast:172.16.42.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::213:37ff:fea5:ab12/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:30 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:124 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:3130 (3.1 KB) TX bytes:23453 (23.4 KB) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1 RX packets:553 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:553 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:51810 (51.8 KB) TX bytes:51810 (51.8 KB) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Foxtrot Posted August 11, 2016 Share Posted August 11, 2016 Hmm. Can you ping 172.16.42.1? Have you tried a different machine? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NShoe Posted August 11, 2016 Author Share Posted August 11, 2016 Yeah, I tried it on Windows and I had the same problem. Here's the output when I ping it: unix@unix-Latitude-E6320:~$ ping 172.16.42.1 PING 172.16.42.1 (172.16.42.1) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=0.470 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=0.646 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=3 ttl=64 time=0.451 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=4 ttl=64 time=0.602 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=5 ttl=64 time=0.612 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=6 ttl=64 time=0.646 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=7 ttl=64 time=0.440 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=8 ttl=64 time=0.605 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=9 ttl=64 time=0.610 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=10 ttl=64 time=0.645 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=11 ttl=64 time=0.471 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=12 ttl=64 time=0.634 ms 64 bytes from 172.16.42.1: icmp_req=13 ttl=64 time=0.644 ms ^C --- 172.16.42.1 ping statistics --- 13 packets transmitted, 13 received, 0% packet loss, time 11999ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.440/0.575/0.646/0.080 ms Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Sebkinne Posted August 11, 2016 Share Posted August 11, 2016 Hi NShoe, That is some very strange behavior. Because you are able to ping the device, it will be a software issue. Thankfully we are easily able to recover the WiFI Pineapple TETRA. Simply follow our Firmware Recovery instructions on our FAQ. This should get you up and running in no time. NShoe Posted August 13, 2016 Author Share Posted August 13, 2016 Ok, here's what went down, I hit the reset button, the yellow LED was solid, then I plugged it into my laptop and tried to configure a static ip address for it and I got this error in command line: root@unix-Latitude-E6320:/home/unix# ifconfig eth1 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up SIOCSIFADDR: No such device eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NShoe Posted August 17, 2016 Author Share Posted August 17, 2016 So, is this fixable or should I send my pineapple back so I can get another one? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I kind of doubt this is an issue with the WiFi Pineapple TETRA, as you were able to ping. What is the output of ifconfig -a with the TETRA plugged in? r3dfish Posted August 18, 2016 Share Posted August 18, 2016 You guys need to update the firmware recovery instructions on the faq page: root@unix-Latitude-E6320:/home/unix# ifconfig eth1 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up the IP address should be 192.168.1.2. NShoe Posted August 18, 2016 Author Share Posted August 18, 2016 Thanks that worked this time, but after that when I browsed to 192.168.1.1 and tried to upload the firmware image, it disconnected me and prompted me with a dialog box that said "Authentication Required", and underneath it said "A username and password are being requested by http://192.168.1.1. The site says: "RT-N12B1" ". Has anybody gotten that before, what's the password? What should I do now? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It must be on the same subnet. Disconnect from any other network (ethernet, wifi, whatever) and try again. This is definitely not an issue with the WiFi Pineapple :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NShoe Posted August 19, 2016 Author Share Posted August 19, 2016 Ok, so I tried doing it while disconnected, went through the procedure, browsed to 192.168.1.1, then when I clicked on update firmware, firefox took me to a page that said "Offline mode" "Firefox is currently in offline mode and can't browse the Web.". What did I do wrong this time? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Foxtrot Posted August 19, 2016 Share Posted August 19, 2016 Are you sure you set the interface connected to the TETRA to have an IP address of 192.168.1.2? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
