I'm thinking about using a small ARM based computer to create a cheap, portable, expendable laptop. Most of the smaller boards just have HDMI or mini HDMI. Anybody know how to connect that up to a laptop screen. Is there converter available?

This.

Been meaning to try it with mine, but haven't scrounged up the adapter cables yet. You'll need a hdmi to micro female hdmi adapter. Hak5 sold a few of these in the store once, but I missed out on getting them.

Just looked, they link to the adapter cable on the amazon page.

Be careful with those screens from the Adafruit page - as you can tell from the image they typically don't have an HDMI input in and of themselves. Instead there's typically a controller board included which in turn has the HDMI input. Alternatively they hook into some Pi-specific on-board connector.

I'm not sure of the vocabulary on the parts. What is the laptop ribbon thingy called? And then what is the board called that can convert that to HDMI if there is one?

Sorry if I sound ignorant here.

Look at the schematic of a Pi. Find whe

I Googled "Raspberry Pi display connector" and this was the top link which, indeed, tells you everything you ever wanted to know about the connection.
