aidenatt Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Hey everyone, I was just looking for a yagi antenna to have some fun with, and found THIS 20dBi one on eBay for just $8. With such a low price, I'm a little worried about quality. Have any of you guys used cheap Yagi antennas? If so, did they work well? I'm looking for something that will pick up wireless AP's from as far away as possible. Cheers! Quote
cooper Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) The relevant times are 2:45 for about 35 seconds, then fast-forward to 23.21 for 40 seconds and finally go to 25:57 for the remainder. In short: rubbish. Edited May 20, 2014 by Cooper Quote
Trolljegeren Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Aw crap, I bought that exact same Yagi on Ebay last week. My findings are less scientific but when I put mine onto my Alfa AWUS051NH with airmon-ng it made no noticable improvement over the standard omni antenna that came with it. Quote
W7PP Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I have this.... http://www.mfjenterprises.com/Product.php?productid=MFJ-1800 .... antenna mounted at 65ft. and I get signals from around 1/2 mile or so.... I once counted 87 Wifi signals using this antenna and an Alfa "N" network to usb device mounted in a 3in PVC tube .... Very directional.... (P.S. I can turn mine with my Amateur Radio antennas on a 55ft tower...) Quote
phaedrusalt Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Lay it on the line: Is the Yagi in the hackshop one of these? Has anyone tried it? Quote
DataHead Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 doesn't the yagi diagram calculator show thatin order to get that much dbi from it, it needs to have around 40 elements or so? If so, then id say the one posted in the first post is a lie / crap Quote
DataHead Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 The one from the hackshop looks more proportionately correct to its dbi, so id say the hakshop one is the real deal. Quote
